Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

it's probably not obvious from what i've been saying but I'm not bothered at all by people posting 'the jews 1488' like they have tourettes, sometimes it honestly gives me a chuckle, and I roll my eyes when I see people complaining about newfags ruining the forum

the oldfags that are whining about it, however, are people who stuck with the site and were loyal during The Great A-Log Off of 2019, and they're good posters on top of that. their opinions do matter a great deal to null I'm sure.

if it's any comfort though, I doubt this is a final warning, my advice is to lol calm down and save your essays about why this is exactly like Something Awful for when and if the subforum edges closer to oblivion

I don't post because I'm not very confident in my ability to contribute content. I've posted in a few A and H threads, and I rate plenty of comments (mainly because I don't really religiously read on the farms, I tend to see what's new and read whatever interests me) and rate from there. Just because you and I have never met does not mean that I am being disingenuous. Maybe I am biased about my opinion on this. I'd like more of what I see as intelligent discussion, and you had a point earlier when you said one of the best ways to do that is contribute more. That's on me.

I wouldn't have stated that my memory is fallible if I didn't want to risk being wrong. I'm perfectly open to being incorrect on things, which is why I'm trying to read every post in this thread and see what everybody's saying, and contribute as best I can. It's a genuine desire of mine to try and improve the state of a site that has come to be something of an escape for me. If I'm misrepresenting something, that's not at all my intention. I apologize profusely if that's the case, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention that it's coming off that way.

Something that is supposed to be fun and bring laughs is becoming a chore and headache to deal with. So he doesn’t wanna keep it around anymore. Are you seriously going to tell me that null has to put up the autism leakage from this board? Why should he bothered maintaining this board? This board primary purpose is containment and it’s failing. This is what you all have failed to answer. It’s also ironic that some of you are saying that AnH detractors have no real arguments but so far most have you have only said ”well, I like it here”.

which is why I feel like starting with top-down enforcement is a bad thing, issuing a warning to the users as a whole may seem harsh, but it minimizes the amount of enforcement (and enforcers) needed

Have you ever considered that he doesn’t want to continuously deal with the mass volumes of autist. Do you think it’s possible that simply nuking the board is an easy fix? Maybe the predicament we’re having isn’t as simple or clear cut like that?

If I'm not mistaken, that's where the root of the issue lies. Some people, X included, think that nuking the board is just excessively boot. I kind of agree with that, but I also understand why Null would want to nuke it, hence why I'm in favor of people that can handle the shit being in the kitchen, as opposed to previous mods, who it sounds like just didn't wanna deal with A&H.

I don't recall claiming I read every post. If I did, that was hyperbole, and I'm sorry for misleading you, but a lot of what I see from A&H is niggerposting. I see it in other places too, it's not just an A&H problem, I'm just telling you what I personally see. I don't doubt there's intelligent discussion, it's just that what I see, FOR THE MOST PART... isn't.

It was already fucking exceptional to suggest that A&H is the reason (apparently literally) all of the /pol/ spergs come to the farms, but it's even more ridiculous to do so now. It's as if everyone's forgetting that explicitly political, left-wing lolcows and groups on this site exist that would draw them in on their own.

3: I thought the primary purpose of Articles and Happenings was to be a discussion board for news and current events that has been deemed a containment board because 8-13 posters in it happen to be neon yahtzees. Not that it was a containment board for /pol/ spergs that gradually turned into a section to post and discuss news. Silly me I guess.

4: There's been plenty of arguments made. Such as the one that A&H isn't the source of the /pol/ posters, and certainly fucking isn't now that it's hidden from public view and moderated. Or the one that if you're so pissed off by someone's posting just take the fifteen seconds out of your time that it takes to block them instead of whining that there's not enough moderation.

True enough. It may be my first, "fall in line, A&H" rodeo, so I was a bit spooked by that and the discussion going on in thread. I'm still pretty fucking new.

That said, warning for off topic discussion followed by escalating punishment still seems a fair enough idea.
