Miah's likely not slow at all, remember he had Amy to homeschool him until it was legal to go to school with his immigration status. I watched a crapton of Amy videos today, and it has me wondering about her education and upbringing. Other than dropping out of kindergarten, which says a lot, do we know much about her childhood? I know she has said it was a broken home with abuse and frequent moves.

I ask because apart from her being profoundly uneducated, as evidenced by constant mispronunciations and unfamiliarity with some common vocabulary, I'm also struck by how she stumbles over word usage and the basic building blocks of language. She just constantly says the weirdest shit. It goes beyond simply misspeaking, getting interrupted mid-thought, or being inept about verb tenses. It's like she took Amberlynn's "I mispronounce cause I'm QUORKY!" and applied it to, like, prepositions. I don't think Amy does it on purpose, but I bet if her attention were called to it she would be like "well that's just how I talk," instead of being mortified.

I can't stop noticing her getting words wrong in the strangest ways. She says she "went with half a year" (instead of through / for), and that she thought about placing an ad for her business ON a newspaper. "My body is triggered to caffeine." "We ran out that errand." HAFTING. KIDSES. And the recent "blow [her] under the bus."

In "Cleaning and organizing day" (linked about a page ago) she mentions the frequent moves in her childhood and every home feeling temporary, having learning disabilities, being "lost when it came to school", and getting her GED. But was she not socialized? Did she somehow grow up not hearing normal speech? The way she stumbles around honestly sounds like she's new to the language. In nearly every sentence, she makes bizarre, scrambled verbal errors I've never heard from a native English speaker. Was she perhaps raised in an ultra-sheltered (though apparently not safe) environment, by speakers of broken English? This is my only theory.

This has made me realize that my fascination with most lolcows boils down to pondering "so... what happened there?" What in the shit could even happen to a person to result in a speech pattern so thoroughly fucked? Help me out gorls.

She's so delusional, and omg that was so scripted and rehearsed. Cutting is unhealthy, and it's up to a cutter to reach out and get help, or at least get help after they end up with sepsis from a dirty blade or infected cut or whatever. Amy's identified a problem she needs to change, so do it. Smokers can quit cigarettes, junkies can quit, alcoholics can quit. Why does she think binge eating is this precious flower of a problem? Yeah, it's harder to quit because she still needs eat for the rest of her life, she can't avoid it. But there are things she can do. Buy and eat only things she doesn't like so she doesn't binge and doesn't eat more than she has to. Drink meal replacement shakes and protein bars only. If eating triggers her binge, turn eating into something clinical. Then take up something to do with her hands/thoughts to keep her from binges. Knitting, or something. Some hobby that isn't completely self-absorbed, like talking to the camera about herself and her life. And if she needs something self-absorbed, go to bingers anonymous (they have that, right?) meetings every day. She doesn't get to beg for sympathy about being an addict without doing something to change. And radical changes to her diet are the only changes that will help. She doesn't want to change? Well no junkie wants to go through withdrawal, etc.

As for her "being one of those people who gain weight easily" LOLOLOL!!!! Perhaps she's hypothyroid or some other health condition which might account for a small chunk of those lbs, but if she gained 120 lbs in a year, it's because she ate her way into 120 lbs. That's 10 lbs a month. When you think about it, people who go on cruises or other all-inclusives, or just food-heavy vacations can gain 5-7 lbs in a week or two (then lose it when they go back to normal). If Amy eats an all-you-can-eat, vacation standard of calories every day, she's going to gain like she's on vacation. She's acting like it's this bizarre phenomenon, it's not; it's basic math.

eta: re: her speech patters, I think a lot of the problem is that she's (willfully) isolated, so she doesn't have many options to express herself. Speaking to the phone doesn't count because she can do various takes and edits, and she doesn't have to worry about any extemporaneous speaking. But because she doesn't speak often, or to very many people (Ali, her kids, the drive through cashier, her therapist), she can't put together basic thoughts or phrases. It's almost like her speaking ability is atrophied, like a leg that hasn't been used (or used much) for a long period of time. ADHD and not being able to keep a train of thought don't help the situation.
