Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Recon report:
I had nothing better to do today so I hit up some of the homeDepot's that where showing zero stock on N95 and N100. They all had some stuff on the shelf. My guess is someone "buy online, pick up in store"'ed everything and the people who work there didn't actually bother to clear the shelves.
West Marine was fully stocked. I don't think many people think of them for PPE stuff but they have a big fiberglass and paint section and have good stuff. Also don't forget autobody and paint supply places.

I see Amazon has a lot of masks for sale by 3rd party sellers now. Unless it "ships and sells" by amazon.com I wouldn't risk it.

I imagine they are loosing more mony from the 50M+ sitting at home all day for an indefinite amount of time
Interesting question.

China's internal economy doesn't generate much real revenue. They pay people for a lot of stuff, but not much for their labor. The cost would be lost productivity.

I hadn't thought about it too much, but no - I think having 50m people sitting around costs a lot less over there than it does here.

How bad is it. I wanna raid my old employees office with Molotov cocktails if shit hits the fan
If it says anything, the first question was a guy asking if the r0 value of the virus would be more certain in coming days, and she starts riffing about the length of the incubation period while shuffling papers and comes up w the response that the r0 value is only somewhere between like 1.3-2 (false) so there's really nothing to worry about because f/e measles (conveniently picks the disease w the largest r0 as her example) is 12-18. The r0 value assumes a population with zero herd immunity though, so the comparison can't be made unless we pretend we're still living in the 20th century.

edit: nvm misspoke about the cited r0, but it still seems a lot lower than the numbers i've seen in recent studies, & the bit about measles seems intentionally misleading

Yeah, you can make a lot of money in China.

Downside is you can also lose all of it very quickly. They've been throwing foreigners out of the Country left and right, university professors, engineers, others. Several close friends are dealing with the tail end of the dragon right now.

Resisting urge to powerlevel, but you don't get to bring your RMB with you. You don't get to bring back your personal property, except for stuff like clothes and pictures. When they decide your business partners now own the business and you made enough, you get nothing and have no way to sue. In one case, your girlfriend of 5 years, who has been traveling throughout the US introducing herself as your finance, leaves you the moment the party says white people go home (and you suspect she was told to get with you in the first place.)

An excellent set of points.

China has no rule of law.
China has no rule of law.
China has no rule of law.

Never forget this. Everything depends upon the Chinese Communist Party. As a foreigner, you will always be at a disadvantage in China.

So think REAL hard before getting into any kind of dealings there. I'll pass.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually going grocery shopping tomorrow and will be incorporating a lot of prep type foods and drinks alongside the minor shit I already have.

I feel like a crazy person for caring this much, but I'd rather look crazy if this amounts to nothing, than end up making my entire family and all my colleagues sick. And then dying. Or them make me sick. And them dying.

So you're saying is that there's a chance.

If the outbreak continues at the rate it’s going Canada’s gonna be hit hard, shit ton of bugmen in the cities and a majority in a lot of areas only people who can afford housing there are chinks because of their massive families and offshore accounts, not to mention how inept Canada’s government is, let alone under its current regime.

Getting long lasting foodstuffs like rice that eat you eat anyway is never bad. You would buy that shit later anyways if nothing end up happening. At most you would be front-loading your grocery shopping.

I don't know how trustworthy this site is, but claims that 7 Chinese got hospitalized in Moscow

edit:

found a better source but seems to have happened 25.1.

Great, now I might have to deal with this shit.

One of my few asian friends is Chinese, and I haven't heard a thing out of him about this. Hopefully he's not rotting in his home spreading the Bug, he's a real good buddy.

According to our 'national' news network, 15 residents of Ontario, (province with the confirmed & presumed cases), have been cleared of suspicion of Kung Flu. However... 19 others are under observation with tests pending. Our Deputy Minister of Health said 'most' of those are in hospital, (raises the ante a tad); in isolation. We're not told if any of these were on the flight that produced the 2 known cases or any of the circumstances.

Here, a case is deemed 'presumed' if they test positive at the provincial lab & only 'confirmed' if the national lab in Winnipeg confirms the result. Don't know if that's because the province doesn't have the King Flu specific tests & are relying on a reaction to 1 or more other corona reagents but honestly, our provincial lab did a shit ton of testing during SARS & if they say positive - I believe it:
