Daigou are all over the west and in places like Singapore too. UK has a ton. A lot used to ship back luxury goods but I know they also go for 'trusted' brands like Boots own-brand skincare - cashiers say often a single Chinese woman will come in and they'll strip a shelf of certain products leaving nothing for anyone else, because they are selling the lot for a premium to Mainlanders.

It's fun to giggle at Chinese stereotypes, but then the fuckers act like litteral locusts by stripping useful items off the shelves of their host countries to sell back to China.

I have to go to Target should I wear a mask and glove?

I have to get on the subway too. : (

And to think my peers mocked me in college when I told them I had bags of charcoal, 14 million piece puzzles, 14 books, 88 cans of Chef Boyardee and a Hazmat suit from Amazon just in case. Heh. Look who's laughing now?

I don't really want to wear those until freaking people out is way down the list of concerns though.

Naaa, what you want to do is get one of those yellow hazmat suits and ride the bus. Wasnt there some prank years ago where a group of people dressed up as clowns, put a clown at every bus stop on a route to get on the bus and ended up scarring the hell out of the driver to the point where he wouldnt stop at any corner with a clown on it? People in hazmat gear doing that would be something.

I work in retail and we call them "diverters". They like to operate in states without sales tax, as well. Had a case a while ago where two people ordered 40 of the same limited edition MAC lipstick, leaving our store with 3 in stock for actual customers. Both going to the same address in Portland, OR--I googled it and it came up as a Chinese shipping company. Nothing we can even do about those types of orders in store because dotcom is supposed to check for fishy shit like that and cancel them, but they never do, and if we don't fulfill the orders we get, it counts against our numbers. Fuck the Chinese.

Don't get me started on Canada's propensity for worrying more about our reputation for being 'nice', 'reasonable', 'all inclusive' & all that shit. That being said, MOST Canadians are pragmatic; like folks in fly-over country. They just don't spend a lot of time making noise about their positions...

Shopping earlier & checked out a few drug stores to see what was what. Of interest... flu shots are free here & when they're available in November, the drug stores offering them do a steady business & that peters out by Christmas. At the 2 drug stores I checked today, the waiting area for flu shots was full. That's sensible - if you come down with the crud, it's easier to rule out flu as well as minor stuff. In short - you have a better idea when you need to shit bricks. Other than that, no masks anywhere, lots of OTC cold/flu type meds being bought, Lysol air sprays & the pharmacy staff was being asked by several about recommendations for disinfectants... all fairly quietly. People are starting to pay attention.

I also wondered if China was only reporting those cases that had progressed to full on pneumonia. That SEEMS likely although I don't pretend to understand their logic, how they think. It would certainly keep initial case report numbers low but as we may be seeing now, that's going to bite them in the behind. If, (I'm pulling numbers out of my ass), 1 in 20 cases progress to pneumonia, that would mean symptomatic case numbers are more in line with the growing rumours.

Persoanl worry scale... & I've followed a LOT of these scares over the past 30 or so years... still a 2 out of 10. That may change tomorrow; waiting on western nations' test results & what else may develop.

For those new to prepping for emergencies. If at all possible, do NOT tell your kids. If they know, make bloody sure they understand they are not to say anything to anybody about what you've got. No, I'm not assuming the shit is about to hit the fan but it's a good idea to make sure older kids understand that other people in an emergency are often Not Nice. Too many people out there who can't be bothered looking after themselves; who can turn ruthless if they genuinely feel they'rfe going to starve.

This is why purchase restrictions are a good idea.

They admitted there are 10K cases

watching live now....they are being vague on the "infectious during incubation" question and seem to be reversing their position on that statement....and no one is asking - seems like set questions were given to the reporters, I'd expect this to have been a critical question but the subject has been brushed over. hard to tell. Also one guy in the room said 4500 cases and 6000 probable, then the other guy says 10,000 confirmed.

Who fucking knows.

I live in a state that still hasn't had any cases turn up. My local Lowe's, Home Depot, and Ace were all stocked with P100s and had tons of N95s so if you're on the fence and in a state that hasn't gotten hit yet, it's worth a look.

Plus I think Home Depot return policy is 90 days and we'll know by then if they're needed or not. Not alota risk money wise on masks.

Realistically take at least Quadruple that number and then take into account the lack of consensus on the virus spreading before symptoms and you have a very bad situation either way.

I've also noticed Western media being extremely radio silent on this despite having a multitude of facts compared to previous disease outbreaks, and very tame in their assessment. That screams this is a real issue to an extent to me and not a money making/agenda scheme.

I'm looking forward to long slow games of cribbage, teaching my roomies how to play euchre, and breaking into my roommate's thousands of volumes of great world literature and mind-blowing non fiction. It would be fucked if I broke my glasses...better order those too....

They are trying to keep everyone focused on the Orange Man Bad trial. They are already pissed the KOBE crash took a lot of the spotlight off it.
