Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

West doesn't have air pollution, population density, doesn't eat bats and snakes, mostly hygienic, and so on that already make the usual China person weak. But the fact that this is a completely new virus still stands.
Even then, West has so little deaths from it that I hear of, so I imagine the West has a pretty great fighting chance.

I still think population density, and particularly mass transit human density is probably the biggest factor. Probably the greatest protection Americans and Canukistani's have is our quirky levels of "personal space" whereby we avoid letting other people get inside of 3' of us in most situations. We each carry a safety bubble of air.

inb4 hate boner for Trump causes critical lack of disease awareness
This virus outbreaked at the perfect time, around chinese new year, Trump Impeachment trial, and Kobe's death, Australia wild fires, easy for the mainstream media to be distracted, and easy for it to spread without awareness. With longer than average incubation period, and early symptoms that can easily be mistaken for a minor cold. Maybe we are over-reacting, but china is known to downplay or outright cover things up. we'll have to wait another month or so, to see the full mortality rate of the disease, it has already climbed from 3% to 4%, but I suspect it could be higher.

You'd be correct, but they're somehow....worse.

Imagine quasi-Saudi money crossed with the typical Chinese coke-with-vintage wines noveau riche taste crossed with LOUD AS FUCK Karen-esque behavior.

Just ask anyone working in sales or f&b in SEA what they think about the chinks.

Couple of years back I walked through a door in the British Museum in London to find a group of six or seven Chinese tourists having a massive shrieking match. Middle-aged ones too. Nicely dressed. Shrieking at the top of their fucking lungs on the staircase around the corner from an Japanese art exhibit. Never seen behavior like it in a nice museum in any country on earth until then. Didn't seem to care that people were walking past looking at them with secondhand embarassment like, 'WTF, you lot, shut up!' Just stood there and raged at each other in the most coarse and loud way. God knows what the issue was, but it was ... not the greatest impression.

This chart is still being updated and uses the CCP's numbers, but we appear to be a bit ahead of schedule:

I know that the CCP's number are bogus but even so, that is not the kind of curve you want to see during any disease outbreak. That's a practically exponential rate of infection/proliferation. The time to get ready for bad times was yesterday if you're near a Mainlander hive.

REV UP THOSE CONSPIRACY THEORIES

So given a worst case incubation period of 14 days and an update today claiming 3-7 days it probably started at least a week prior, We should be expecting to see much more spread overseas than is so far reported.
Idk about other countries, but the CDC stated that they made careful decisions about who to test. e.g. whether or not you've been thru Wuhan or are in close contact w someone who has and have reported pneumonia-like symptoms. so the amount of testing being done seems very conservative. also concerning to me that a number of cases seem to exist in this perpetual limbo of being "under investigation" or "pending" when they should already have access to the results, while they mainly just announce cases which are cleared.

I'm sure it will reassure you to know that we're up to 4578 official cases now. Corona-chan has been busy.

That's just how they talk, they always sound like angry rodents

I have a few connections in SE Asia. Viets don’t seem to be too worried about it, but no one I know is close to Hanoi. My Indonesian connects are laughing and calling corona Allahs Judgement. I’m sure that shits already in Jakarta though, jokes on them.

I saw that Peak Prosperity aka Chris Martenson was linked in this thread. He claims he's a pathologist but if you look into him he apparently has no credentials and is a financial advisor. I saw one of his videos and honestly it seemed like he's trying to use fearmongering to sell items on his website.

Am I the only one who got suspicious over this guy and the way he's doing his now viral videos? He wants the public to check out his "premium" site to get more information and pay for it. I think the guy is sketchy.

FFS, the site can't even spell his name right. This is the man I'm talking about.

I don't know. Something seems off to me about this man.

“Does not spread person to person in USA”
“Respect for patient privacy”

Compared to measles, something which they understand. They don’t understand Corona 6 pack of pneumonia so no need for any updates until they understand the disease fully.
Welcome to California

People seem worried about catching the thing. If you get it you get it, if you don't you don't. You're unlikely to follow stringent enough protocols to prevent yourself from being exposed if that becomes a problem, and fortunately for most people it appears you won't have much of an issue.

You definitely should have a month's worth of food, a decently sized first aid kit, (a few thousand rounds of ammunition,) and a couple life straws or something similar as just a good idea for any emergency situation like a flood, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, being snowed in, societal collapse... Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a fair bit of instant coffee, a decent survival knife, a camp stove and some fuel for it too.

Death may be a preferable alternative...but seriously, canned goods are fine. Just double check their shelf life.
As long as a can isn't bulging, it should be fine even a few years past the date on the can. Just make sure it stays in a stable climate.
Mountain House is tasty. Sorta on the pricey side I guess, but it lasts 20-50 years and I use it when hiking anyway. I figure it would be nice to at least have tasty food if everything went to shit. Easy too since it's just add (sometimes hot) water pouches.
