If I were China I'd not let the CDC in until I had something from the Administration to benefit. So I understand their position. But they've let the WHO is for obvious reasons, but they haven't said much more than what China has said.
I guess the WHO will only declare it a pandemic if they verify the statement that infections occur while within the incubation period, otherwise it's business as usual.

I don't understand people like her-my parents and grandparents ate things like cow brains and other kinds of offal and while I never ate it (at least knowingly) the moment it was confirm BSE could be contracted via the brain, spinal cord and other organs of infected animals it never occurred to me to say "Fuck the anti-French CDC, eating brains is my culture and you guys are gross for eating pizzas with anchovies so I'm gonna keep eating brains!" instead of making sure it was permanently off the menu. You shouldn't even need that much. For your eyes you are looking for anything that prevents droplet splashing and discourages you from making contact with them with your hands. Medical eye shields are just wrap around mylar type plastic. In theory, unless this is something really really new, you should not need an airtight seal around your eyes. The eye protection functions more like a sneeze guard at a salad bar.
While we are talking about airtight seals and where they are and are not needed. Here's a quick primer on masks vs respirator masks and how they work.
This is an N95 Mask
Note the plastic box on the front. That is a one way valve. It allows you to freely exhale, but forces inhalation to go through the filter material. It has a fitted reasonably airtight seal around the face. The importance of the one way valve is you wont blow and dislodge the seal while exhaling. What this means is only what you breath in is being filtered. Not what you breath out. If someone is already sick, wearing one of these does nothing and protects no one! Higher levels of mask up to and including Military NBC masks are just bigger better filtered versions of this.
This is a surgical mask
It has no one way valve and no seals around the points where it contacts the face. It is to prevent the wearing from expelling saliva droplets and similar into the public space. It will do nothing for preventing you from getting sick. It will help you to prevent spreading it if you are already infected. People who are already sick should wear these. They are not perfect, but they help.
This is an SCBA
We know them mostly from Firefighters. But they are the same things they use in Hazmat and the really bad hot zones. The key to them is they use a "Positive Pressure Mask". The air pressure inside the mask is always higher than the outside air. Thus any leaks to the seals result in air being forced out of the mask from inside, not outside contaminants being allowed in. Like the N95/N100 Masks these use one way valves so exhaled air is not filtered. But you are using self contained clean air for breathing in (which is heavily filtered when being put in the bottles. Heaven forbid something bad gets in there.) The obvious downsides are in portable form it's only good for about 20-30 minutes. Although there are specialized surgical environments that use a piped in arrangement rather than portable air tanks. If you see lots of people wearing these, you are fucked.
