My aunt had a baby at 42, a walk in the park pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy kid. Her 23 year old nanny had preeclampsia delivered at 26 weeks, NICU for two months and kid has issues. It’s always a crap shoot.

It’s possible, but unlikely seeing as though we are only talking $3k lump sum. Legal aide helps poor ppl - it doesn’t require you be indigent or dead broke. Maybe the immigrant thing makes the income/asset thing more stringent?

Im going to guess maybe the immigration issue, getting income in the USA without a #SS number is bad juju when you are trying to get ICIS to approve a greencard. I could totally see angry abusive husband reporting income to ICIS.

She also said she had no bank accounts in the USA (Lowtax only was on all the accounts) so that might also be a problem.

IDK, really. She did post early on she was checking with her lawyer to make sure she could keep the money before touching it. Maybe the money would keep her from qualifying for stuff like free/low cost housing, food stamps, etc...stuff she would need now until the court would order support payments.
