You see, I'd be less likely to believe the bio-weapon theory if it was literally any other country (aside from North Korea, and possibly Russia) besides China.

Think about it. 6,000 people is literally nothing to them, so why did they start quarantining cities, censoring information on it, shutting down theaters, tourist destinations, blocking off roads, building new hospitals, and sending in the tanks at less than half that? Another thing to remember is that they did all this during the Lunar New Year, which is one of their biggest holidays, if not the biggest holiday, and how utterly catastrophic this is to their profits. It just doesn't make sense for them to acting like this.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, this is China were talking about. The country that's current population exceeds a billion, and is little more than a bigger, less totalitarian version of North Korea. They don't give a shit about their population, let alone 6,000 of them. That's not even a drop in the bucket for them. That's literally less than one percent of it. This country starved twenty million of them during the Great Leap Forward, and you wanna tell me they started losing their shit about this at just 2,000 cases?

No. I'm sorry. I don't buy it. If it was any other country that actually gave more than a shit about its citizens then China does, then yeah, I might believe this kind of reaction would happen. But since it is China I don't.

The only things I can think of that would get this kind of over-the-top, SHUT. IT. DOWN. freak out of them is either:

A) This is a bio-weapon that accidentally got released, and China is scrambling to cover up the fact that they might've just unleashed the new super AIDS upon the world.

B) It's not a bio-weapon, but it is killing way more than what China is admitting to, and this is why their losing the absolute insect minds over it.

C) It is a bio-weapon, and it is killing way more than what we're being told. More info on the outside cases might help, but for some reason there's been a lot of radio silence on that.

tl:dr; China, the country who's population exceeds a billion, and who starved death literally tens of millions, would not be losing their shit over numbers this small, and at this time of year unless there's something really important they're not telling us.

I also wonder how the Hong Kong protests played into the response, because the protests made the government look really bad internationally. They also know if they didn’t go into panic mode and Western businessmen started getting sick and dying because they didn’t know they shouldn’t be in China, that would be worse for them in the long term than shutting the country down.

It’s not super-AIDS. The thing about HIV is you can have it for a few years before it develops into AIDS (there is evidence men had it in 1977, a couple years before deaths started happening) so someone who has it can infect a lot of people, and, it is fatal in 99% of cases (there are a small amount of people whose HIV does not become AIDS because of a genetic mutation). On the other hand, it’s a lot harder to get infected. This is a super-flu.

Speaking of genetic mutations,I read that Asians may have a gene that makes them more likely to get infected, although I can’t find the paper I read and a lot of people were arguing over it.

How many chink tourists do you think are in Burgerland right now? It was 2.9 million in 2018 to the USA, and 700,000 to Canada. The UK has 391,000 chink tourists a year, usually on tours in relatively known areas, but just like every fucking country that isn't North fucking Korea guess what? They won't know where the fuck they all are either.

The noise to signal ration is still atrociously high. I'm seeing SOME western countries making the right moves, especially when it comes to intentions of quarantining anyone coming back from Wuhan/China for up to 14 days but like everything when politics is involved, it may be too little, too late. It IS somewhat encouraging that cases aren't proliferating like bunnies in the west... yet.

But like China, it may simply be a matter of time before cases are being reported in ever increasing numbers; we don't know how long it was quietly simmering over there before they couldn't escape international notice.

Barring some freakazoid news later this evening from anywhere, I'm sticking to a personal worry level of 2 out of 10.

I posted about him earlier. He's a financial advisor. He's also trying to sell "survival kits" with masks on his website. (Or so I've read.) He also has people pay for the most "important" information on his website. It seems like to me that the guy is trying to profit off this. The video posted by Dr. Mike at least seems like he's trying to be more informative.

I have a suspicion that the man in this video is trying to con people into buying his online products.

Yeah, misinformation, panic... This thread has been going very fast, people panicking, even some people GASP encouraging racism and violence and against certain groups!

Null should shut the thread down. Not everything being discussed and believed in the thread is 100% accurate. Lies never spread quickly before the internet. Word of mouth is far more truthful than people typing and sharing video, and certainly cable television never spread lies to vast amounts of people all over the world causing wars and mass panic. Did you know Syria has weapons of mass destruction and that Russia hacked our election? Fucking Ruskies and their meddling.

Just kinda riffing here: Been watching some morbid shit to entertain myself. Got sidetracked on youtube into a bunch of videos about London, especially the years 1665 and 1666. Of course none of this is empirical or anything, i haven't studied it, but based upon the events as related by the historians involved, there was not much xenophobia exhibited during the plague. That didn't happen until London burned the next year. The big split during the plague was more one of class.

Anyway, here's a program is decent, it's based on parish records for much of the data. I think it catches the claustrophia of being locked up in a neighborhood with a bunch of other doomed people very well.
