The dates in the Killed By table say it all, only a small handful of circlejerk threads have any activity at all this week, and only 2 threads have any activity today. There are more mods for this forum than there are people even bothering to browse. I guess they all fucked off to B+R, but given that shitty offsite is locked up tighter than a nun's twat we'll never know.

It's hilarious how simply banning these race baiting communists wouldn't have effected the forums at large in the slightest, yet giving into their demands led to them founding troontown anyway leaving a desolate wasteland in their wake. I was in Diamond Frogs in Elite Dangerous for a while around 2015-2016. It was actually a lot of fun, there was a real old-school goon fucking around feel, and they’d raid Reddit to spread propaganda. Lots of political maneuvering, it was pretty good.

and then I literally got banned from their Discord on election night 2016 for telling some dude who was melting down to calm the fuck down and Trump winning wasn’t the end of the world. I got unbanned about an hour later, but I was pretty much done with the hysteria at that point

On election night 2016, a friend of mine was playing a MUD when he was suddenly interrogated by an enraged admin who demanded to know if he voted for Hillary. My friend told the admin that that was none of his business, and was promptly banned and his MUD characters permanently deleted.

We've touched on it a time or two, but it's really worth mentioning how Goons operate in games to understand why they're so mad.

Goons are expected to be 100% on a team, no matter what, every time. They all are expected to be in the same guild (NO SPLINTERS) or group of guilds if the game allows, there's rigid rules proving you are a goon in good standing and more rigid rules for alternate characters/friends or family invites. They spend a lot of time strongly suggesting that established players help out new players - with equipment. gold, bags, mounts, dungeon runs, powerleveling, etc depending on the game - frequently at a loss.

Goons are expected to group and cooperate with goons no matter what - you are required to fill out your raid slots with goons and only fill in pubbies if the scheduled goons do not show up AND if there are no goons available to fill in. Goons are not allowed (and will be banned from the main forums) for taking advantage of, lying to, trolling. stealing from another goon - even if the game (like EVE or Rust) encourages these methods of gameplay. If the game is huge, you'll be expected to communicate though the larger channels (Discords, Offical Forums/subforums, Offsite forums) or though specific third party chat mods.

If you leave a goon guild, you are treated as a pariah and typically not allowed back in and are shunned. If you form a splinter group (such as Elitest Jerks) goons are forbidden from grouping with you and your guildmates or helping you in any way.

So BMW pissing on all of these rules and telling goons to go fuck themselves made them really really mad.

I think you are doing Goon EvE a disservice, the situation isn't nearly that simple. That fact that Groon existed alongside goonWaffe, and the two had an awkward allied relationship is evidence of that. The goon EvE community was so large and interests so fractured that it wasn't able to be effectively centralized, even if 75% or so of goons flew in the alliance. You had lots of indy wormhole corps that posted on the forums without issue, and you had groon, which had a lot of members looking for a more relaxed eve experience of drunk-fleets (which is why groon was the first corp to hold the dubious honor of having lost multiple super capital ships without ever having actually taken one). The only thing that really generated butthurt was when anything happened that could "damage relations". Goonfleet by hook or by crook would always make sure outside goons were playing nice with each other, even if it wasn't their business, and involved no one in their alliance. The paternalism was really weird. Like if some rando goons happened to be taking an ass whoopin' in a wormhole, goonfleet babysitters would be on the scene with enough numbers to close the wormhole in minutes.

So, back to SA proper:

All the buzz about WC3 Reforged and it's wonderful new map moderation reminded me of something: if simply playing edgy BMW-adjacent games makes you a Nazi to nugoons, then custom map nights with ye olde goon WC3 groups would probably be Nuremberg-able offenses, DOTA was legit only half the fun, and there's a reason all the juciest drama was DOTA-centric way back when. Nowadays, I don't know about official (read: Barney) groups, but filez goons still have all the usual "edgy" maps like the retard-series in rotation, and a few """ironic""" CaterParty events. It should also be noted that you should never buy Reforged, especially since in addition to the discs being easy to pirate, the official final disc patches take Safedisc out and let you play absolutely every good map with your VLAN program of choice

Action News Team 5, Arena, Dauqs Noog, Shaman Trainer, Ghost Riders, the Famiglia pretend-Mafia (kinda sorta still exists), their fucking Ythrlite splinters, etc., all tears in the rain. All were absorbed, folded, or killed by transfers, but I preferred the tone and feel of smaller guilds compared to what was essentially a "job" with the hardcore kids

There was also the fact it was clear EJ and GS wanted to be pro raiders, so the cracks were already starting to show in regards to sanitizing token goon behavior. They wanted that blue acknowledgement, so around TBC, there were plenty of foot-down moments that assisted in killing the communal feel. The Serenity Now e-funeral crashing was one of the first big dividing events, with standard goons and GM's not long for the world going with "good shit", and the Stasi GM's and their tryhard dicksuckers DEMANDING to know why this shit was fucking funny, or theorycrafting the public ramifications for crashing an e-funeral (loooooooooool)
