Something Awful is an inverted society.

In traditional society, individuals build each other up because they understand that a group is only as strong as the weakest individual. They understand almost instinctively that strengthening the individual is a benefit to the whole. It allows them then to weather difficult trials and hard times.

Goons, the trans culture, and SA are this, but inverted. Those in positions of strength have to bow to the weakest among them. There are olympics, except only to determine who is weakest, and therefore, who holds the most credence. Words like "privilege" and "normative" are used to brand the strong as evil and to tear them down to the level of everyone else in the dregs.

It is why SA's current posters only survive in huddled clusters around a guttering fire, heavily moderated, patrolled, and policed. Their ideas and lifestyles are an afront to the natural order, to nature, to evolution, and anathema to a healthy way of being.

It is why the ideas they loathe -- basic self-respect and informed tolerance they label as fascism, for instance -- flourish outside of heavily moderated places. I believe the ideas they despise thrive outside of their enclave, and so frequently, because they make sense. They hold up to the test. And when they don't, the people generally holding them are confident and well adjusted enough to look introspectively and adjust.

It's not enough for him to disagree with his wife. It's important for him to publicly humiliate her, and then make sure the kangaroo court supports him. Most people would simply be happy to be done with an ex and move on, but it's more important for Rich to make his wife look as weak and pathetic as him while pounding his chest about being superior.

If Rich ever thought about WHY he did anything in his life, he might see why he's not coming off looking vindicated at all here. But that's Rich.

If you look at the pre-ban screenshot, the redacted Doctor Thodt is an oldschool NMP3's goon (who I thought died) that's been in with all the music trackers before anyone even knew who Rippy was, so in addition to having some nice admin protection, I'm gonna assume he vetted Sketcher the same way one would vet RED interviewees. Or he's fucking with him and his Deviantart wallpaper career. Either way, this dude is clearly a giant ball of bipolar, and he probably dropped everything to move to Vegas over something as vague as "oh yeah you could probably stay with me" without clearing things further. Would YOU want him in your house?
