So it has been revealed the two UK cases are in York which for those who don't know, is a lovely old historical walled 'city' (really a town) in Yorkshire basically famous for vikings. It has a huge tourist industry. It also has its annual huge Jorvik Viking Festival in a couple more weeks which will bring thousands into the city for reenactments and the viking markets etc. They won't say but they are obviously Chinese tourists. York gets overrun with tour groups from all over, including Asia.
A mate who lives there told me she saw a mass of hazmats around the hotel this morning and the place all sealed off. Apparently they've dragged the afflicted off to the hospital other side of the country and the hotel is being disinfected. Properly, I hope. Fuck knows how many people these idiots have been in contact with - York is fucking CROWDED at the best of times - the centre has some famously cramped medieval streets that get packed ... as do many of the attractions.
They've not gone the other side of the country, they've been taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, which is about an hour and a half North of York and is attached to the University of Newcastle as its teaching hospital. Which generally are the better hospitals of the NHS system due to the seniority of the staff present to teach others. It also has a specialist infections diseases unit, so the best place for them
By the sounds of it, the hotel will go through a deep clean similar to the ones enacted inside NHS hospitals, which should kill it stone dead on any surface. The main issue is how many have they likely infected, especially if the incubation period is infections as speculated.
