It doesn't say if they're part of a tour group, because if they are - and most Chinese tourists are - they will have been in close contact with them on the tour bus and so on. Never mind all the museums and shops and crowded cafes they've been coughing up their germs around. How the hell you trace everyone these two have been around since they arrived .. impossible task.

Most of those Chinese package tour companies have a very set schedule. The restaurants and shops that they've been shepherded through are probably largely owned by the same company that runs the tour and set up to cater to Chinese tourists. Obviously more of a problem if they've been to say, natural attractions with free admission, which would be the other sort of place that those companies include on their tours.

Hahah I mean I'm not saying that this kind of Chinese package tourism brings no actual benefit to the native people of the nations which host it or anything. That would be racist.

I suspect they weren't, they were in the Staycity Appartments in York, which are basically a whole building made of Air BnB style "serviced" self catering apartments. So some poor bastard cleaner goes in and tidies shit up for you, while you basically live there.

Thanks for the info. I understood at first that the Staycity was in Newcastle and was about to contact a close family member. I put him on a plane a week ago from the U.S., bound for Newcastle via Schiphol . He was stocked with hand sanitizer,gloves and masks, but he did spend 24hrs at some hotel in Newcastle before going offshore of Norwich. I can breathe a little easier.

I don't have many Chinese friends but the two I know regard Western SJW nonsense as some kind of madness. There's a term: baizuo which literally means "White Left" but is basically a progressive westerner. It's not a neutral term. The Chinese friends I've had have been pretty based. As to changing their name to fit in, I think it's more a concession to Westerners who are incapable of pronouncing their name and an avoidance of going through explaining it twice a day.

Anyway, forgive me if I missed it in this fast-flowing thread but how long does it take before vaccines can be mass produced? My recollection with flu is that they're mass producing them just a month or so before the call-ups begin. As they're are presumably samples of this virus a-plenty by this point can we assume that there are labs working on big batches of vaccine shots for us all? Apparently tourist airlines from China are still landing at least in Frankfurt (approx. 600 people in two flights today) and the people who fly in do not get tested at all. Not even for a high temperature. Nobody checks where they come from. Nothing.
They're supposed to fill out a form with their data but apparently nobody came to collect it.

But the people the airforce is supposed to bring back from Wuhan get put in quarantine for 2 weeks.

This thread is losing steam pretty fast because information is starting to slow down. This is either a a good thing or a bad thing take of it as you will.

My city which has multiple confirmed cases in it is business as usual except for Chinese districts. Nobody is wearing masks nobody except Asians seem to give a shit. Masks and food seem to be as readily available as ever. If the assumptions of the worst case scenario happen in the next couple days we should see a spike in suspected and infected individuals, if not then chances are it may blow over. Still there needs to be more time and data for the virus to spill out of the incubation phase to confirm how bad it is in nations outside of China.

We should have already seen a more pronounced spike in reported cases outside of China. The most important thing to keep in mind is we have been seeing very very few reported cases of human to human transmission that occured outside of China. And in the handful of cases we have seen it has been almost exclusively people with very close contact to an infected person who traveled from China. The husband of a Chinese Wife who just came back from visiting relatives. The Bus driver who had two full groups from Wuhan for a week. Etc. This has been in the public eye for over a week now. Infected parties didn't begin traveling on Jan 20th. There has been almost 2 full months of open travel. So it's probably not as virulent as it is feared. My suspicion is that contact and surface transmission and a fairly high persistance on hard surfaces is likely a much greater avenue of transmission than direct aerosol person to person. Wiping down and disinfecting surfaces is probably as important as a mask.

Once again here in the US we have seen only a single case of person to person transmission that occurred in the US. While we will see more, that low number at this point is pretty telling. Enough time has past that we should be seeing more right now.
