Oh no that research never stopped. STEM has quite a beef with sociology due to that actually. Because ethnic differences have been accounted for in medical papers, much to SJWs' dismay.Back when the human genome was first sequenced (God I'm old) there was a big push to sequence the different human phenotypes (Is that right? Feels like it is...) AKA the various races of humanity. Initial papers talked about trying to track the genome sequence for certain birth defects inherent in different races (Sickle-Cell was a big focus) as well as talk about muscle and bone density and the like.
Then the "All the races are the same there is not difference between the races!" mantra hit hard, and I wonder if they've stopped doing that research because it's not politically correct and if all the research was memory-holed?
Btw this is far from the only virus that affects one race more than the other. Indeed the impmementation I talked about before was the priorization of tests for certain diseases based on ethnicities upon multiethnic populations, because when you have multiple diseases with similar symptoms knowing which tends to fuck up your patient more so you can check it first can save lives. Dunno if it was ever implemented in hospitals but the studies sure were made.
This is no sign of artificial design though. Generally speaking viri target the receptors of the local population. If the receptors they target is one of the MANY MANY MANY proteins that significantly varies based on ethnicity then the virus is significantly more efficient at infecting one particular ethnicity. Basic bio really. Coronaviri are native to asia, it stands to reason they'd target asians. That said, it's too early to say that's what's happening. Honestly chinese mishandling of the situation seems to be the strongest issue here. Hell, just look at the germans. Both spanish confirmed infections were germans on vacation, both of which caught it from one of the families infected in germany (both from the same one) who in turn all got it from a single tour guide. I'd say that's above average spread for how little time it's taken the virus to jump around like that. So it seems to me it ain't just asians that are weak to it. Frontiers have always been a pain to cross so we'll see once it gets past one how well it does. I'm betting africa will have the key since they're apparently not closing airports like everyone else.
Genomics has rapidly advanced and as provided some great data for reconstructing human historical and prehistorical migration patterns and such (for example, providing evidence of human-Neanderthal interbreading); it's been harder for that information to be applied to biomedical science.
There is no actual evidence of neardenthal-sapiens interbreeding that was bullshit. Quick explanation: what there is evidence of is that neardenthals were more closely related to sapiens than previously thought, NOT that they interbred. If two supposed "species" turn out to be able to produce fertile offspring, then they are the same species. This is why canis lupus and canis familiaris got rebranded to canis lupus lupus and canis lupus familiaris, had the evidence actually proven interbreeding we would be classifying it as homo sapiens sapiens and homo sapiens neardenthalensis. We ain't doing that, cuz we only got a common ancestor, and if they had sex (which is likely) and had children (which is highly unlikely) then we sure have no evidence suggesting the kids were fertile (like mules basically), then again same can be said of the hasburgs...
