Star Trek - Space: The Final Frontier

Than what? All of the TOS/TNG-era races featured in the video? Well, yeah, if that's what you're getting at, but in any event, I can't think that the Romulans losing their brow-ridges (which I've never liked anyway, because they ought to be physically indistinguishable from Vulcans) is all that horrifying, certainly not in comparison with STD turning the Klingons into blue-skinned space-orcs with four nostrils and gills on the sides of their heads. 🤔

I actually agree with this. That was one of the few things TNG did that I didn't like - Vulcans and Romulans are supposed to be indistinguishable, or nearly so. They're the same species, after all, just politically different. They're only separated by a couple thousand years. That's not enough to explain the forehead ridges.

There are some Romulans scattered in the background who have forehead ridges. The series seems to be addressing the changes in design by mixing them together without comment. This is the right way to go and I wish that the Klingons had been handled this way by mixing a few old-style Klingons in as extras as some point and waving them off as different phenotypes instead of a convoluted plotline about human DNA retroviruses.

As far as an explanation of how they would develop ridges, I would imagine it would be a situation where the Romulans colonized a planet that had some natives with forehead ridges and found out they could have sex with them.

I like how DS9 handled it.

Actually I suppose that's plausible. I mean, I can't imagine wanting to fuck a Reman, but...

I wish they had gone with sfdebris' idea: when they go back, put Michael dorn in the old makeup until the defiant returned to the future. Never comment on it.

As for romulans, notice they never mind melded? Even when it would be useful like brainwashing geordi? I sometimes assumed the forehead ridges were an anti-telepathy mutation. Just like how cardassian spoons protected their minds.

and klingons were browner humans in TOS. some aspects are simply due to trek being first and foremost a tv series (like riker never getting promoted in 7+ years). they probably have ridges so you can immediately tell it's a romulan and not a vulcan, if you even know they have the same origin.

I was more meant as a joke, but it reminded me about alien diversity. what aliens did we get in nutrek? middle-earth orks, some fishy looking dude that is only alien to explain his abilities. then middle earth elves. old trek had loads of different aliens, even if they only show up as side-characters for one episode.
reminds me of nuwars where it has hardly any aliens anymore and then they're mostly shit.

The Romulans were basically Vulcans who didn't give a crap about the teachings of Surak and remained backstabbing warlike assholes while the Vulcans decided to suppress their more asshole urges and doubled down on mastering their telepathic skills. Romulans apparently let that atrophy so much hardly any of them could do that unless they were half-Vulcan and got training to master it.

At least, that's how old-Trek explained things, not sure how nu-Trek tries to make sense of that.

oh I was being very cheeky. ;)

TOS movie/TNG Klingons were perfect, though. Just "alien" enough to get the point across (and in a way that meshed well with their overarching racial personality profile) but not so much as to make "Shakespeare in the original Klingon" sound like a completely absurd claim (plus everyone and his dog seemed to love dressing up in those KDF uniforms).

Except that Romulans have a very distinct set of aesthetics for their costuming, and when they're not in their native costume, they're inevitably trying to pose as Vulcans or other species, so the forehead ridges are redundant in addition to being biologically ridiculous.

No arguments there.

Erm....niggas I dont know the veracity of this shit but I have seen this supposed leak pop up a few times and its just stupid enough to all be real

I guess we shall see whether this coon be lyin in the runup to summer...
I don't know how much of that is true, but Whoopi returning as Guinan is basically confirmed...

Sisko is still my all time favorite Captain, but I've heard that Avery Brooks is basically a hermit these days... Regardless, I'm doubtful that he will come back... And If they actually fucking *recast* Sisko, then STP will actually *piss me off* me. It's weird, because I do actually think Janeway coming back could be a good thing for STP. She'd be a great villain.

Also, If they don't get De Lancie back as Q, then they missed an obvious opportunity.

agreed, but even then their society hardly made much sense if you look any deeper. who even builds and designs their stuff, not to mention progresses their technology? romulans looking a tad differently is imo is just the same "style over substance".

which you and me know about and can recognize, you can bet there will be people wondering why the humans with the elf ears, thick eyebrows and shitty haircuts are suddenly different dudes.

why would a Q age tho?

Eh, they'll punish us by getting de Lancie's son who played Q2 in Voyager, and we'll get Jango Siddig, the bastard child of Nana Visitor and Siddig el Fadil used as an excuse to explain Kira's pregnancy', as Bashir Jr.

That's how much they'll punish us.

I watched the first episode and... sorta liked it. I have to give two more episodes a chance, though I will likely have to talk to my Macedonian friend to hide flash drives in secret locations to watch the others.

Yes, they named their kid Jango.

Some people have talked about this as a means to mock Picard's own aging.

I know people have said this already, but Janeway should have been that admiral in Episode 2. Fuck me, I wish we could have heard Mulgrew's Marlboro tones utter those lines.

He's not a hermit, just basically retired from screen acting. He's an acting professor at a university now.

I don't see Avery Brooks coming back or getting recast but Cirroc Lofton showing up as Jake would be fun. He looks 100% convincing as Ben Sisko's adult son.

1. To mock Picard for getting old.
He's already done that before too...

Come to think of it, I probably would've been hooked more if it was Jake that did the hit piece on Picard at the beginning, since he was going to work at FNN.
We're only going to get happy cameos from old characters where they all get along to avoid rustling any autistic feathers. The bitchy admiral's dialogue would have been completely natural coming out of Janeway's mouth. Jake could be taking the opportunity to needle the man who killed his mother. It would be a lot more compelling.
