The Chinese studied the downfall of the Soviet Union very closely. The lack of clean rooms is one of the big lessons PLA officers learn before being embedded in corporations, it's a lesson in adapting to the environment.

But China never tells them about the pigs. They never talk about the pig farmer managing the entire clean room operation, how he forced engineers to treat production like a trough. They never learn to question leadership because that would screw the whole system.

China may be able to copy our semi-conductor and telecommunications industries, but eventually it will all come down because of something having to do with a pig.
Xi is too dumb to realize that it wasn't the reform that killed the Soviet Union. He is blaming the doctor for killing someone who smoked 20 packs a day for 20 years on the operating table.

It's slowing down bros
Wouldn't it be interesting if the numbers coming out of China had been doctored since day 1 to make everything look like it's under control? And we could all but prove this using a mathematical equation and some graphing?

Someone doing just that

Yup, yup, I'm sure it's slowing down. Just keep telling yourself that

Really makes ya think

So an update on my digging into the construction quality of the Just-Add-Concrete InstaHospitals:

(For background, I am a structural engineer with around 3 years of professional experience. I am not yet licensed, which means I do much of the same work as a Professional Engineer, but all of my work checked before it’s stamped. I am absolutely still in the phase of my career where I’m building the fundamentals, so there’s a possibility I could be wrong on some of this).

The first noticeable thing is that the entire construction of at least one of these projects has been live-streamed. That makes my job both easier and harder because everything has been documented, but it will take more time to sift through everything to find the relevant information.

It’s interesting to me that the Chinese would make a propaganda effort out of the construction process. This is both with the livestream process itself and the fucking deluge of surface-level articles in English speaking publications that range from obvious CCP puppet media to Western outlets unwittingly (or wittingly) picking up the party line. Even the Wikipedia entries for the hospitals are obvious party propaganda.

I’ve been to job sites, and I’ll admit the scale of the hospital efforts are impressive. There are a few big head scratchers in terms of the engineering but I’ll need more time to process it. Safety seems quite lax, but it’s by no means a haphazard affair in terms of organization.

My theory is that while displaying the supposed strength of the Chinese construction industry to outside powers is a bonus, the main purpose of the highly publicized construction is to reassure the Chinese people. “Look in awe at the miracle of manpower and see how much the party cares”.

Several articles talked about how with SARS, once the temporary hospitals went up, that meant the virus was on the ropes and things were under control. I’m betting that’s a fabricated talking point, and I’m interested to see where else it crops up.

In terms of design issues, there are a few things that stuck out to me immediately:

1) There are two major kinds of structure in use; the prefabricated stacked rectangular dwellings and prefabricated warehouse/hanger open buildings. The former is still dubious to me in terms of its structural capacity while the latter is incredibly common, including in the US.
2) I don’t see any bolted connection between the prefab units and the foundation. At all. It looks like a reinforced slab on grade, with cut sections of wide flange beams just laid on top of it, and the units stacked on top of those:

It’s possible the beam sections are embedded, but I haven’t found evidence of that so far. And I can’t find anything resembling an anchor rod that’s being tied into the prefabs, even in the poured wall footing around the perimeter. This is such an obvious mistake for light-gage steel construction that I’m going back through every decent photo I can find to see if I missed something. I’ll update it if I’m wrong, but it looks like there’s no way for this structure to transfer lateral loads and overturning loads to the foundation. And that’s even apart from whether or not the units themselves are stout enough to resist extreme lateral loads without folding.

I really hope I’m wrong on this, because if not, then a seismic event or even a particularly bad wind event is going to cause a major fucking problem.
Wuhan doesn't seem to be any hotbed of seismic activity.

Winds don't look to be particularly high in Wuhan for about the next week.

Here's another page with various Wuhan climate charts.

Thank you very much for your analysis. Have you seen anything that indicates the existence of a drainage system for the site, or water/sewer connections?

Shit almost never follows a quadratic equation in real life, especially not that perfecly.

Got a case of suspected indirect transmission of corona virus. Dude hasn't traveled to China but was in the air port and got sick 2 weeks later with pneumonia. We don't know until we test for flu and see whether or not it gets better with antibiotics. We have to rule out the other factors first and don't have tests from China. But we're keeping him isolated.

Odds are that China will adamantly refuse to help curing the disease and keep useful information to itself because (1 anything to hurt competition be it a Pyrrhic victory or not and (2 they're pants-shittingly afraid of anyone finding out that it's a bio-weapon they dropped at their own feet.

The world will end not with a bang but with a wheeze..

Nah, it will end with a fart.

One humble request from a layman. Have seen a LOT of smart people posting some great info here. At the risk of pissing you all off, could you provide a bottom line up front, when applicable, please? I for one don't have the STEM background to get all the meaning from the technical language - I admit it. Many others here likely in the same fix.

A little powerlevel - I've been in the situation where I had the detailed knowledge of the situation and had to distill it down to meet the needs of others depending on me. Did that for five years at one assignment. Not always easy but when you saw/learned the reactions, rewarding.

We without the background depend on you to help us understand all that's going on. This thread is quite possibly one of the best places on line to get a variety of good information on the coronavirus outbreak.

Thanks for anything you can do. It is indeed appreciated.

Seems like things are starting to get real fun over there.

Would you be willing to tell us which country this is in without powerleveling overly much, my guy?

Here's a tldr my hospital has a suspected case of wu flu but we're not 100 percent sure. Because 1. It's flu season, 2. I live in an area where for some reason bacterial pneumonia cases are more frequent. 3. We have no means of testing other than taking a sample and sending it outside for testing.

We're not calling it wu flu yet but guy is totally quarantined as if he has it and we're trying to treat him first for a possible bacterial pneumonia and swabbing him for flu virus first while waiting for tests results to come back.

Probably regular flu, still well done, when it comes to quarantine autism saves lives.

Did he attack her for wearing a mask though? He probably thought she called him a nigger to his face. They hate the Chinese, especially since they've moved into the housing projects. I mean they hated me when I worked in lower Manhattan because I spoke some Mandarin/Ningpo dialect with customers and used to order from a place with a cook from Shanghai. They have a "Us vs the Chinks" mentality there.

Cruise ships are a petri dish for disease. All crammed in together, often indoors with piped air, shared eating and entertainment facilities. Wu Flu could rip through that population the way diarrhea does after a contaminated buffet. Not to mention it's older people who tend to take cruises, the flu's primary victims.
So what you're saying is that cruise liner plus Wu Flu equals this:

No, we've just reached the limit to what can be tested everyday. Looking at the rate of increase its vaguely linear as would be expected of hitting the testing ceiling.

----EDIT--------

Also the china uncensored podcast that's currently ongoing claims hospitals only get roughly 100 new test kits a day.

-----------EDIT 2-------------------

When looking at new cases, we need to start applying suspected cases when comparing to the simulation for obvious reasons.

E.g. Simulation infected | Confirmed + suspected cases | Confirmed cases | Suspected cases

I mean yes but part of it has to be related to the fact that it has a threshold. If China is locking down cities and preventing people from travelling to other places then once that city has reached the maximum number of people infected living within it and they aren't allowed to leave- it has to stagnant- if they're actually doing what is being claimed because it will either infect everyone or eventually run out of hosts available to infect.

I'm curious though. 12 People in Germany and one of those is the guy whose Kid went back to school, who IIRC from following the thread was found to have it fairly early (and what about the person who infected him?). What is the status of that guy? Is he better? Recovering still? Is he in ICU? Were his symptoms Mild? Moderate? Really bad? The same for all the people outside of China, the map gives cases and doesn't really address how they're recovering or the severity of their symptoms if they developed them. The whole tracking website doesn't really help in figuring out what exactly 'recovered' means when it comes to this outbreak. I know it can cause pneumonia but not having anything concrete on how fast it is onset, the severity of those symptoms, etc. Seems weird to me. We have no rates on age or sex and how it differs between the two either.

You'd think if it's even more deadly than what China is providing for numbers that we'd see more dead in the ones that are outside the country.

He literally just got in her face and called her a diseased bitch until he became fully unhinged and started hitting her and she ran away, which is when the recorded video started. The guy who shot the vid wanted to get the guy's face on camera because he's hedging on the internet's weaponized autism to ID him.
