He probably read accounts of rich people complaining about the smell of the poors and thought that the reaction of Republican senators to close contact with their constituents would shatter the populist image that the Pubs are gaining. Quite the fucking accomplishment. 90% of the movie is apparently Harley Quinn adlibbing.

Would anyone care about this movie if it didn't have Harley Quinn? She's pretty much the archetypal "crazy slut with attitude" that every male wants to bang, but with a Hot Topic/Horror Clown twist. She's also a character that needs to be skillfully written, otherwise she becomes insufferable, and if most of her lines in this movie are being ad-libbed, then I'm banking her character is going to be on the "insufferable" side of the equation.

I submit "Mad Love" by Paul Dini and Bruce Time as evidence of Harley written at her best because it portrays how toxic and abusive the Harley/Joker relationship is. Hell, DC Films missed a good opportunity for a Thelma and Louise-like Harley/Poison Ivy team-up as the lesbian subtext would draw in horny teenage boys while appealing to "girl power" demographic...

I'm actually going to see Birds of Prey this weekend. I'm not expecting it to be any kind of 'masterpiece of film-making' and definitely not better than or even comparable to Joker, but I think it'll be enjoyable enough. I like fashion so I'm sure I'll be able to appreciate it from that angle. I also think Margot Robbie will be a great choice for Harley Quinn after seeing how well she played Tonya Harding in I, Tonya (speaking of that -- has Bob ever said anything about that movie? would he write Tonya off as a mayonnaise ghoul for her decidedly 'white trash' background or is Tonya Harding a 'coastal elite' for being from Portland, OR?)


Bob will probably pick Birds of Prey for his 2020 movie of the year though, considering he picked Godzilla last year.

Some new-ish poster remarked the other day that he couldn't help getting pissed off at Bob's bullshit. Comments like this are exactly why. It's not just how breathtakingly offensive -- even cruel -- these sneers are; it's how casually and easily he spouts them off. This isn't the result of deep if troubled thinking or consideration. It's a reflexive, ingrained hatred for everyone Bob thinks of as lesser than himself for whatever reason. Nah, I think this may be legit for the audience. If you ignore the Mary-Sues or the "Get Woke go Broke" sides of the clickbait shit, it seems like this Harley Quinn is okay, at best middle of the road. I can't say for myself,since I'm not going to watch it.

But people say it sure has the whole girl power message, but from what the more normies have been saying, it doesn't stay too much up on the soap box, and keeps the pace fast wih tons of actions scenes, and it was to because neither the story or characters have much on their own to keep people interested, which seems to be on par with other middle of the road action movies.

Not to mention that seems like the production seems cheap, making the whole thing a cash grab to captalise on the character's newfound popularity. It's not gonna make Joker numbers, but WB is going to get their money regardless I think.

What's getting annoying is the same fucking song and dance people are making everytime one of these "woke" big studio releases comes out. It's either reporting on the box officie as some sort of victory, or it is article after article about how this cynical corporate trite is now teaching little girls that they don't have to be stepford wives.

Of course you can just ignore this noise and I do, but open youtube searching for a combo for a old fighting game and next thing you know you are being recomended videos about how the fucking Harley Quinn movies is going to flop. First world problems and all that, but fuck this, really wish this whole culture wars shit would just go the fuck away...

I just got back from Birds of Prey. It was okay, but it was messy as hell in terms of plot. It was just a wacky, time killer that need more polish in the writing.
