I lost a lot of friends over TDS, too. When I said "it's really not worth this much stress, just relax and focus on something else", I might as well have said "WOOOOO HAIL TRUMP, HE'S GONNA SEND EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM NIGGOS AND FAGGOTS STRAIGHT TO THE GULAG". Even a guy I had known for about 15 years that was helping me get a nice job flat out blocked me over that, and cut off all communication. And I didn't even get an interview.
Not gonna lie, it really fucking hurt to lose multiple friends I had known for so long just flip a switch and decide they want nothing to do with me ever again because I wasn't following arbitrary outrage.
But, whatever. It's cathartic to see so many other people post stories about going through the same kind of shit. This shit all happened before Trump even won, when the polls were saying that Hillary still had a 90%+ chance to win. Why were they even freaking out in the first place when it was seemingly clear that Trump was gonna lose anyway? It's like a fucking mind virus.

If we're sharing TDS stories, I got one. It's not as poignant as everyone else's who lost long-time friends and family, but I had gotten something that was worth posting even back then, but I wanted to hold on to it for Election Night 2020. We're coming up to four years now, and I have no fucking clue what the subject of this tale is up to nor do I care to.
Oh, I actually learned recently that the reason why we haven't seen one of my uncles in years (we weren't close to begin with anyway) was because he had gotten mad at/offended by some silly political joke my dad had made at a family outing and never wanted to see nor talk to him again. And now he's dead from a heart attack, having held that grudge to the end.
It's more pitiful than sad, really.
So this one chick... I cannot recall how we got to talking, I think she messaged me on Tumblr (hindsight is a bitch) about something Digimon-related, and we just got to talking. At about the same time, a small group of other Digimon fans we were all more-or-less familiar of kinda gathered around and she was among that circle. So of course we bonded over that with the other fans, but we'd still would talk about other things, too, especially art since the two of us were artists and loved animation and we'd draw each other shit, and we were also giving each other writing ideas. Was pretty chill, for the most part. But this chick... had issues. I should've recognized the red flag from the start something about her was off. She would just get snappy at random because some word or something would set her off and then she'd go "I'm sorry, haven't been doing great, my life sucks, my family sucks, I have to drink my sorrows away, etc." and we'd move on with the topic like it never happened. 'Course, she'd often whine about her life regardless if she went off or not.
Funny thing is despite coming from basically two different worlds on opposite ends of the country, we actually kinda had similar viewpoints about society and stuff whenever it was brought up. We had a good balance of being in agreement and being in disagreement, but we were getting along both in the group and outside of it on Skype. The election seemed to have gotten her on edge, but it wasn't always brought up and we mostly joked about stuff involving it because it really was a circus show, everyone agreed it was insanity. So when Trump was elected, you bet your ass she went bonkers and obsessed over Orange Man Bad especially in her art, and was talking about how she really wants to move out of the country but she's too poor and her family's moving to another blue state anyway because of her dad's work. Given it's politics, I was wise to just not bring it up but also because I literally didn't care despite the group being deep blue political-wise, but a lot of Tumblr users would reblog political shit.
Couple months into 2017, she randomly asked me in the hangout chat who I voted for, and I was like "wtf does this have to do with anything?" and tried to wave it off with a "I don't care" since I decided to go Independent after the election, but you could tell she was getting really angry because she didn't like what I was reblogging and wanted to know if I voted for Trump. So I told the truth that it was a literal last-minute (for a mail-in ballot) vote between Trump and the Independent what's-his-face-literally-forgot-now in which I held my nose and voted Trump, and she had that "I can't be friends with nor be in the presence of someone who voted for a bad man" spiel, and left the group.
And then she had the balls to send me this over Skype later that night--quick reminder that this was just before the NPC meme came around, and she had also claimed she hated SJWs and never agreed with their viewpoints/behavior.
I don't remember what I sent since Skype no longer works for me (what a coincidence Skype stopped updating for me shortly after this) except I said something along the effects of "Give it a couple years and see what happens" and that was it.
Well, we're coming up to four years. I have no regrets, and Trump still has my vote.

I really wonder what would happen by reinforcing that shit till it gets to a point even they can't handle it. like claiming just last night the secret service kicked down your door and held you in place so trump himself could come into your bedroom and grab you by the pussy. or a nice letter with his signature that looked just like a swastika warning you if talk shit about him he'll make you disappear like the rest of your family (sitting right next to you).
