Again, to take with a grain of salt it's easy to fall for dramatisation in these times but we all know China numbers are bullshit.

Beijing authorities said Friday that lying about having contact with someone with coronavirus could be punishable by death, that failure to report symptoms such as fever could lead to criminal charges, and that people who are not wearing masks could be detained.

As the Chinese government has used more and more draconian measures to try to contain the virus, including ordering tens of millions of people across Hubei and Zhejiang provinces to stay at home, they have also tried to enforce increasingly strict rules.

“If found to have endangered public safety with dangerous means, those with such behavior … could be arrested and sentenced to three years or less of imprisonment for lighter cases, and 10 years or more in jail, life sentence or even death sentence in severe cases,” said Li Fuying, director of the Beijing Judicial Bureau.

It's a little more like the pre-Chernobyl radiation exposure from a spill of radioactive sludge. I forget the name but it only really came out during the 90s that it even happened. A huge swathe of the Eurasian countryside became unlivably radioactive but people were still bathing in the rivers and ponds and the Soviets would just shoot them dead to stop them from going to other towns and irradiating people there.

You could honestly see something like a Mad Max fuel shortage if this gets much worse. China imports most of its oil, and there's a good chance that some of the seller nations may decide that the infection risk is not worth the money.

Info from the flights that are expected to bring back Brazilians from Wuhan.

First, Brazilian goverment released a statement debunking a publication saying they refused to take people from Latin America and that they were requested by Bolivia, Costa Rica, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, and Cabo Verde. The publication said Brazil rather helped Poland because they're ideologically allies. The government said that the flights have a limited space and limited crew so they can't just take more people they are allowed. Also, that they were already arranged to make a stop in Poland from Wuhan and that is hard to make a stop everywhere else because flights from there are banned. They agreed on taking Pollacks from Wuhan to be allowed there:

The flight from Wuhan already landed in Brazil (Fortaleza), according to this video in Portuguese. It was tweeted about two hours ago. They will then be moved to another region.

Brazilian turist in Bariloche (Argentina) claimed being sick too. Authorities located him and put him in isolation after evacuating the hotel where he had a room. In the hospitals, analysis were negative for CV, only a sore throat. He also was never in China nor had any contact with anybody from there.

I've had an odd pondering here and there the last few weeks...

How many container ships left China with crew infected? I mean, face it, China would view it in two ways: Work even when you're sick. Crew expendable.

It's just the interesting picture of massive container ships out there, drifting sideways on the currents, across the shipping lanes, and eventually to the Great Pollution Goblin Plastic Sea out there in the Pacific Ocean. A modern Saragossa Sea.

China's economy has been propped up and rumored to be on the ropes for a year, could they view shipping those containers out taking priority and worth the risk of a plague ship out there?

It's going to be interesting, watching all the fallout from this slowly come out over the next year or so as they try to recover from this.

Especially when you look at the fact that China was posed to buy a LOT of food from the US.

See, the US can go without Chinese junk longer than China can go without US food. Critical part pipelines will be interesting to watch, and the more fascinating part will be watching everyone try to adjust the pipeline to new factories and suppliers.

This is going to have long-term, permanent effects, even if everyone was suddenly cured and the shipping started tomorrow.

What I've always found funny about people is that they automatically assume cheaper goods = more spending money, which it really doesn't. Outsourcing drives down wages, so the net effect is likely not worth the lower prices. In addition, you have to consider the fact that if companies are just having 12yo Chinese loli slaves build shitty goods in sweat shops, this by extension also means that the companies are not investing in industrial tech which would eventually drive prices down anyway.
