Coronavirus: GP surgery in Brighton shut down after staff member tests positive
The County Oak Medical Centre has been closed by the NHS on the same day it emerged that four people in Brighton, including a doctor, had contracted coronavirus

A GP practice has been forced to close after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus, it is reported.

The County Oak Medical Centre in Brighton has been closed by the NHS in the latest scare to hit the East Sussex city.

Earlier today, it emerged that four people in Brighton, including a doctor, had caught the flu-like illness during a recent trip to France, doubling the total number of UK cases to eight.

Those four cases are linked to a middle-aged Brighton man - dubbed a "super spreader" - who caught the potentially deadly bug while attending a business conference in Singapore between January 20 and 23.

The infected man then stayed at a ski chalet in Les Contamines-Montjoie in the French Alps - where the virus was passed on to at least 11 others - between January 24 and 28, the day he returned to the UK on an easyJet flight from Geneva.

Health officials are now urgently trying to trace and warn people who had contact with the infected Britons, including people who attended the GP surgery in Brighton and travellers on the flight from Geneva on January 28.

A staff member at the County Oak Medical Centre, located near to a primary school, was among the latest to be diagnosed with coronavirus, the BBC reported.

Callers are greeted with a voice recording saying: "Unfortunately the building has had to close due to an urgent operational health and safety reason."

They are advised to call NHS 111 if they have any concerns.

A note hanging in a window reads "Closed due to operational difficulties".

The "super spreader" who caught the flu-like bug in Singapore has now been linked to at least 11 other Britons who have tested positive.

They all had contact with the man in the French ski resort.

Of the 11, four adults and a nine-year-old boy were confirmed to be carriers on Saturday following tests in France, where they were being treated in hospital.

A person who had since returned to the UK was in isolation at the Royal Free Hospital in London after their case was confirmed on Sunday.

A British dad who lives in Majorca was in hospital on the Spanish island after testing positive there following a trip to France.

I am probably irrationally annoyed at this fellow now. Typhoid fucking Mary late of Singapore. He seems to infect every single person he's around.

I wonder if Mr. Super Spreader of the middle-class lifestyle (none of them can seem to stay in their homes for more than a few hours at a time), bouncing from business trip to ski lodge in France to the pub back home and who knows where else this idiot went before reporting symptoms - infected the doctor at his surgery or socially?

I wonder how many people the doctor in turn may have infected? Other doctors? Receptionists? Practice nurses? Patients with low immunity? Having a surgery out of action affects a shitload of people who rely on it for all sorts of issues. It hard enough for most people to get a GP appointment as it is, this really fucks things up for a lot of folks.

The real tragedy strikes - that cruise ship in Japan is running dangerously low on booze. Thoughts and prayers!

They run screening programme's, at that surgery, that are mainly targeted at elderly people as an example.

The most vulnerable group. I hope to fuck Super-Spreader didn't actually attend there in person.

OK, more on this GP surgery in Brighton. I'm confused exactly who is infected here. There is a female doctor who was in the ski chalet in France with Super-Spreader who used to work at that surgery who is now in hospital in the UK. Her husband and son are in France in hospital with the disease and apparently they live 'in the Alps' now, so not sure why she came back t Britain. Did she visit her old surgery? It alsi mentions a male doctor from the ski lodge who is infected but doesn't say he worked at that surgery. I need a fucking chart!

The thought of being sober on a cruise ship is somehow more horrifying to me than Corona-chan.

I would need booze if I was possibly quarantined on a death ship.

Every time I see a cruise ship docked in a harbor, I wonder what kind of disease outbreak that fucker is primed for. I've always done this; I can't help it. I was forced to go on a cruise once, when I was a teenager, and the only redeeming feature of that experience was that I got to booze it up once we hit international waters, and my dad was too seasick to yell at me about it. Cruises: never fucking again.

So being trapped in quarantine in one of those floating petri dishes? Those poor bastards. Allowing the ship to re-stock booze would definitely count as a humanitarian gesture.

The masks on UK Amazon were sold out by the time the press here started circulating the story. Doubtless Chinese here were doing the usual daigou shit or ordering for family on the mainland and bought the lor out. Masks aren't a super high in-demand item here ordinarily and still aren't generally, seen nobody wearing them around here. I believe stuff sent into China via post is getting swiped anyway and not reaching its intended recipient. The WHO will probably spend any money on bribes, junkets and meetings wth some resting in Tedro's Swiss accounts, so fuck them too.

Also, virus does not thrive in heat/humidity, prefer cold, like normal flu virus. UV from sun may kill it.

Yes, it’s the Chinese everywhere. I know someone in a decent size town in another country who went to the pharmacy to buy masks and it was just cleaned out by a Chinese woman. They’re just like rats.

Oh, it's adorable. It's also an exceptional source of protein.
Bat is not for eating!

I've watched bat sanctuary videos for the past year now and, watching them in motion, they tend to spend a good deal of their daily time cleaning themselves. They lick themselves as often as cats, and all of that filth they pick up on their tounges (not to mention the viruses carried by the insects they eat) is excreted through their...excrement.

Which is why people tell you not to play in a bat's habitat, because bats hang from the ceiling and just shit on the ground. Bat guano is rife with disease, and if you get some on your shoes, then touch your shoes with your hands, you're taking a gamble. Additionally the fear of contracting rabies from bats is a bit overblown. The only time I've seen bats bite is when they're on the ground and someone tries to pick one up.

Bats are to cute to eat how can any monster eat something that looks so cute eating a banana?

When are they gonna come out with that official name they were talking about a very brief while ago? (a few days.) CCParty are calling it NCP, but that isn't very catchy. God I hope they don't call it something something Respiratory Syndrome again.

and apparently you can't name it to suggest an ethnicity because that'd be waisis or something, so kung flu is right out, fuck.

It's very selfish of them. There should perhaps be some purchase limit per person of these things, like the Hong Kongers were doing with masks over there due to a shortage.

Yeah, Cave Disease, aka Histoplasmosis is the biggie, a fungal lung disease from breathing in dust from dried-out bat and bird shit. Very unpleasant and if youy're immune-impaired, it can kill you.

I'm pro-bat in that they're an important part of the ecosystem and do a great job cleaning up mosquitos and other insect pests, but I wouldn't want to get too close or share living space with them, let alone eat them. Honestly, they're kind of beautiful in the sky and ugly up close (sorry bats). How anyone could fucking eat anything like that is beyond me.

The Chinaman is literally incapable of empathy - if he's hungry, he'll fucking curb stomp a puppy and then char the still twitching remnants over an open fire while giggling at how easy it was to get a delicious meal - all he had to do was walk into the nearest dog pound and adopt a pet. Stupid gwailo didn't even try to get a bribe out of him!
