Manosphere Jordan Peterson - Internet Daddy Simulator, Post-modern Anti-postmodernist, Canadian Psychology Professor, Depressed, Got Hooked on Benzos

Where did you get that idea? His own daughter has openly struggled with severe depression. There's been no denial about it at all or accusations of "faking it":

Quite honestly, everyone should be skeptical of Big Pharma to an extent (for many reasons) and should also seriously weigh the risks and benefits of taking antidepressants:

etc., etc., etc.

I got the idea from the tag "manosphere" that Peterson has because many of the manospherians are mental illness deniers because it fits into the extreme right wing ideology that life should be hard, men should all be working in the trades or in a blue collar field, and if you are anxious you just need to "clean your room and bootstraps bucko".

As an aside, Im not a leftist at all just look at my username. I think J Peterson has some useful insights, but manospherians like Aaron Clarey, Davis Aurini, Roosh, all the cows need to stop denying mental illnesses.

They might not have mental problems, but when you deal with mental problems your entire life then they are bound to leave a mark on you, or thats what I think.

If insanity is catching then what does that mean for users of a website that spends a lot of time cataloging the behavior of the mentally ill?

Because logically it would follow the Burns model of pathogens.

Quacks like Jordan Peterson and many of his followers often say that depression and other mental illness that you can't physically see is just someone faking it. They just assume its a millenial "snowflake" pretending to be depressed to get attention. Typical of small minded people to assume that just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not there, just like how you cant see gravity.
They assume that all of the millions of psychiatrists are all conspiring to sell antidepressants to people to make money. Now, obviously some of these conspiracies are real like the Sackler opioid scheme. However, the science behind depression and anxiety is sound. Depression is real and so is anxiety.
you're making shit up for no reason. Here is one of the most watched JBP videos on depression, and his first suggestion is to give people antidepressants. it is literally the first thing that is said.

he isn't a mental illness denier. He has some nutty ideas about things other than psychology, but he really knows psychology.

Okay, you are right and I apologize. I should have done more research before making that assumption.

It's okay, this thread is full of young men who are angry at there dads so they're taking it out on old man JP, whose only crime is telling said young men to, God forbid, clean their dicks and make their beds once and a while. Also he got hooked on drugs his doctors gave him while his wife is dying, what a pussy amirite guys?

Null, you spent sometime in Slav lands. Would you go to a Russian hospital for any reason, much less to recover from addiction?

Sorry for a bit of PLing here.

I spent about a week in a Russian hospital (the shitty public one not the nice private kind).

It wasn't nice, but you probably won't die. They look after you and give you 3 meals a day, although you share a room with like 4 other people. Buildings are super run down though-- perfect location for a horror film tbh. The good thing is that is that it is completely free, even for foreigners.

I do suspect, however, that JP is in a nice private one. Those are much more modern.

Ayo hol up, a man with damn near unlimited disposable income and no 9-5 job going through some shit spiralled out of control on drugs? No, it couldn't be, this is an inconceivably convoluted scenario.
He'll either get out of it or not, this PR bullshit is disgusting. I myself will still laugh to the mental image of Peterson off his tits, headbobbing with drool pooling in the corner of his mouth while Flatbush Zombies is blasting from his stereo.

There is definitely the view that psychologists and other experts should be immune to their fields problems.
Ionno who thinks that, at least half of the people pursuing those fields do so cause they're broken themselves.

Doesn't negate that his deepfakes are fucking hilarious and he threatened lawsuits about them. It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to know they sound like him but aren't him.
You really have issue with the guy whose position of "I'll use the pronouns my trans students request, but think a law requiring I do so is going to be weaponized by the government against people they dislike for unrelated reasons" was misconstrued to "he wants to murder every single tranny ever" by Canadian media, threatening a lawsuit against a website fabricating quotes attributed to him?

You are not going to get them removed from the internet, if anything you'll motivate others to create more of them. It was wrong move.

Sometimes it's not about actually getting it removed, it's about making a very public statement about the existence of the sites so he has something to point to when the media inevitably tries to use a deepfaked quote to libel him again.

While Benzo dependence and addiction are very real both physically and psychologically this story makes very little sense to me. Detox programs for benzos are neither rare nor experimental. It's generally suggested that you slowly taper down your dosage and gradually ease yourself off the drug. However cold turkey withdrawals though dangerous can be managed with proper medical supervision, it's fairly common with junkies who run out of the stuff. Usually some vomiting, sickness, and in more severe cases seizures. The hospital hopping and ending up in Russia for a treatment program is incredibly bizarre. A treatment program would also only be about 14 days too. There is obviously something else going here.

JP is probably in a padded room bashing his face against a wall.

I can only imagine that he went to Russia of all places for a radical treatment.

This is actually really bad advice for the record. Updated information says while dealing with depression antidepressants should be a last resort. Lifestyle changes like change of diet, more outdoor activities, developing a better base of coping skills, talk or group therapy, etc. are better long term then starting off with medication. This is because many patients will rely purely on medication and not try further lifestyle changes and the risk of side effects can outweigh the benefits.

This doesn’t apply to things like schizophrenia or bipolar, etc. When it comes to pure depression many people experience situational depression rather then something like majot depressive disorder, which needs about two years of persistent symptoms to be diagnosed. It isn’t that he’s entirely wrong, it’s just a generalized statement with outdated information. Also when it comes to medication it’s generally psychiatric not psychological, so that can explain some of the miscommunication.

He thought an all meat diet was a good idea.
