Fragile doesn't begin to explain it.

When you demand your entire labor force self-quarantine, you run out of ways to deliver services. Every system in that city still relies on people to power it, the CCP is nothing when they can't use it effectively. Part of the reason they didn't just give everyone lead injections to the head is that they need those people back.

Let's remember, there's over 80k PLA soldiers in Wuhan. If they wanted to, 1000 could be put on trash detail. The fact they are not tells you the scale of the epidemic.

Let’s not forget it’s still Winter. China is largely LNG heated. And they have huge takers full of it stuck at anchor because they have nobody to unload it. How soon until that starts to become a problem?

It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

And once that slide starts, it's tough to stop. Think of how many failed states out there started with fuel shortages and cascaded from there.

Loss of power means loss of refrigeration. Loss of water means lack of way to wash. Loss of sewage means it starts outflowing onto the streets and overflowing at the treatment plant. Lack of shipping means no food, no medicine, no essentials, no bottled water.

Well well well, looks like reporters are about to get reminded they aren't a protected class like they think they are and get told to go fuck themselves.

I love how they scream about "AMERIKKA FACIST!" but when China does shit like vanish a couple dozen reporters they just send a strongly worded letter.

Please keep in mind an entirely possible ripple or domino effect as this virus progresses. More cities quarantined, more support webs broken. MANY more second-order deaths, possibly exceeding the first-order deaths.

I don't believe the CCP really knows what to do. Let's see...building "instant hospitals" that are death houses. Locking people in their apartments. Arresting people who alert others of the virus. I'm already tired of seeing these poor people falling out of windows or calling for nonexistent help from their apartment balconies. No response can be 100% effective, but treating the sick as criminals is most counterproductive.

What would YOU do, Uncle Joe? Well, I would have treated this virus as a calamity affecting the nation entrusted to my care. I would DEMAND the most accurate statistics possible. I would reach out to any organization or any other country that could supply help, knowing that getting the virus under control here could help control the spread overseas. I would get the PLA off their collective asses and have them carry out their mission of serving the people. Whatever it takes. Nobody's going to attack us. We have ICBMs. I'd get my ass to Wuhan, at least briefly, ASAP. People will understand if I can only stay for a few hours. They will not understand if I never show up at all.

Most importantly, I would demand the infected men, women, and children of my country be treated as patients instead of criminals.

Xi could have done this. Not rocket science. Just common sense and consideration. But fuck, no. CCP before China. Fine. He's already shown himself in front of the entire world to be a joke of a leader. Shooting a few people and claiming they were scientists who failed the Chinese people (But were just people to get the fuck out of the way) No shots of the military doing evil military things. No shots of mustache twirling Generals saying "I must destroy the village to save the village and ALL OF CHINA!" No shots of troops with flamethrowers. No stacks of body-bags and the newscaster saying "This is what we face, what we all face. We will endure, we will triumph, and the world will see China's will!" No shots of construction of the Memorial Wall with people's names being put on "So that China never forgets them!" Hell, no going FULL evil empire and reporting higher numbers than they are to keep the people subdued and make the threat look worse so they can clamp down controls even further.

It's like they're deliberately choosing the worst choice they can and then doubling down.

Meanwhile Corona-Chan has started giving lap dances because she's done with the pole.

Once we get a steady rate of progression in the Western World, we'll see how we handle it.

This breakdown of society in China makes me think there is an extra horrifying layer of the Corona virus that nobody but Chinese officials are aware of yet.
If we believe the 4% death rate, then the most logical thing is to let the disease spread while doing propaganda of "it's just the flu bro". It will burn out quicker and will mainly kill the old folks that nobody cares for and will be better economically in the long run. The containment is too late and will likely destabilise the government, as well as create extreme panic and paranoia around, escalating the situation.
On the other hand, the death rate might be far higher (especially with no medical attention) and the government will lose face if they remove the quarantine, which is the real danger.

To give you some explanation as to what ug/mm2 scales to...

15~ ug/mm2 -- largest coal plant in USA
50 ug/mm2 is background for Pittsburgh USA
68 ug/mm2 -- largest coal power plant in china
200~ ug/mm2 is background for industrial China like Beijing.


Wuhan's is 899.83 ug/m3. Not good.
