HUGE, indeed. Seems like every city and town in CA has a substantial homeless population. Can see anywhere from one to three homeless people spending the night in their vehicles parked on our street, which is in a "good" area of town. See people in tents from time to time living under an underpass I walk by most days. Our area's country supervisor allows homeless people to park in her office's parking lot overnight - at a cost of six figures of OUR tax dollars for contractors to monitor the area, provide certain things, etc.
Come into Salinas on Amtrak and you see homeless encampments lining the side of the tracks for several hundred yards. Monterey seems overrun with homeless. You don't want your little kids to go to the Monterey Public Library by themselves. Homeless all over the place, not to mention the occasional prostitutes - and the library is right across from the police station.
If this virus gets going among the homeless here, can see fatalities. We'll make very sure to stay away from the homeless - we do anyway.
