Phil is just a man so desperate for approval that he likes to make up grand made-up stories about anything as small as rewriting his whole life to not make himself seem like not a total loser.
These delusions that he was some sort of pioneer of youtube playthroughs because it gives him some sense of purpose. He loves to say he has a family, a wife and a pet son because that boat has long been gone to have any sort of kin like a normal person. Loved to say he was a body builder and not a sack of potatoes as he is now, along with being such a hard worker at his "jahb" that makes him sit around on his ass for hours.
His narcissism is what is trying to keep him have any sort of value by in his own mind while also trying to put up an illusion that everything you see is reality. That 4th place at EVO is a win to him, and it should be to you, even though Gold, Silver, Bronze is usually what makes the cut of any sort of accomplishment, Those 11 years of being a content creator is a big milestone to him and should not be seen as pathetic to anyone else.
Phil's reputation has been so tarnished that he is pretty desperate for that to go away, like his debts. Check his Minecraft streams and each time the story changes on why people do not like him. He want's to say he has matured, even past 30 when most people are set in stone with their ways and it's incredibly difficult to get any change out of that when you have to actually want it, but this is Phil and he's never put effort into anything aside from Mobile games, Street Fighter, and defending himself.
