Manosphere Jordan Peterson - Internet Daddy Simulator, Post-modern Anti-postmodernist, Canadian Psychology Professor, Depressed, Got Hooked on Benzos

All of this sucks. I hope he can survive this, I hope his wife can survive her cancer, I hope his daughter can resist the allure of fame, I hope his son stays lowkey and continues to live a normal life.

I'm a fan of Peterson. I guess I'll get that out of the way.

I don't get the hate for Peterson, but I kind of do, because I'm on Kiwifarms and it's wealth of cynicism. I'm sure I've said all this a few pages back. Peterson has always talked openly about his substance abuse and depression. I get the hypocrisy of, "he's a doctor, he should have known better". But nobody "knows better", especially regarding themselves. Isn't that the whole point of psychotherapy? The therapist doesn't tell you what you should do, they guide you on what you think you should do?

I know it's funny that Peterson should have cleaned his dick and washed his room and lobsters would never use benzos, always pet a skateboarding cat, never let your children grow up to be cowboys, yadayada. The substance of what he says is more important that the spicy memes. People act like the things he says is common sense, but then why is what he's saying so popular and hated at the same time? He hasn't held up to the ideal he talks about. Yes, because he's human. Nobody can. It's like a heroin addict telling people how bad heroin is, and if the person relapses, everybody saying, "Pshh, dude's doing heroin again, it can't be that bad". I'd be more skeptical of the person without experience giving their opinion.

I don't know. Brilliant thinkers could come from troubled minds. Maybe Peterson will just be a fly-by-night e-celeb. Maybe 100 years from now he will be seen as one of the flashpoints of taking civilization out of the jaws of chaos.

I just hope everybody in their family pulls through.

lmao.

Okay dude. Jordan "you defeat the chaos and I'll snort benzos" Peterson has made millions making "maps of meaning" and "Rules for life" that should hopefully be good enough to prevent things like... dunno, being a junkie? Being afraid of mean people on twitter? Having a thot, stupid, possibly junkie daughter?

All of us have to struggle with personal loss and not falling into the way of drugs. He failed. He clearly failed. He made a killing out of selling ideas that in theory should prevent that kind of failure. If he hadn't been so arrogant by thinking he knew better than all of us and so fucking greedy in all of his ventures he might get better sympathies.

Both of those book he wrote before he got internet famous. He wasn't making millions off of those books. The reason he got famous is because a bunch of Leftist SJW assholes decided to film themselves calling Peterson a Nazi, and Peterson stood his ground.

I don't think he was looking for fame, but fame dumped on him. He's pushing 60, has been a legitimate doctor for all his life, accidently fell into international fame while his wife is dying of cancer, and on top of that been trying to get millions of guys be better in their own life. That is a huge burden to bare.

Of all the lolcows here, how many have made a positive influence in people's lives? That's got to count for something.

Peterson did make a positive impact on at least a handful of lives. Some people need that "self-help" advice, and there's no shame in that at all. In a world that's really cynical and aimless about a lot of things, some young people need to be shown the right direction ... And Peterson's advice was good (whether he himself followed that advice or not). It gave some young men a sense of accomplishment, accountability, and purpose, which is a good thing.

I feel for him about his wife's cancer. If that's what got him started on getting hooked on benzos, then that is just a tragic situation. Grief can be an absolute monster.

What an unfortunate situation.

That's not quite right. Maps of Meaning was written before his rise as public intellectual, but 12 Rules for Life was definitely written afterwards, and probably went into his benzo buying funds.

You are right in that it is SJWs/trans-activists who did more to promote him by whining about so often. They have nobody else to blame but themselves.

Because he tells certain people what they want to hear and thus, to those certain people, is exempt from criticism.

I don't think he's exempt from criticism, he's said some stupid shit that even makes me go "what?" sometimes.

But he's only human, nobody bats 1000 at all times, his heart in the right place and he doesn't deserve the shit people give him and the shit he's been going through.

Hi everyone. It's been months since we've given an update on Jordan or my family's health and it's time for one so here it is. The last year has been extremely difficult for our family. Dad was put on a low dose of a benzodiazepine a few years ago for anxiety following an extremely severe autoimmune reaction to food. He took the medication as prescribed. Last April when my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, the dose of the medication was increased. It became apparent that he was suffering from both a physical dependency, and a paradoxical reaction to the medication. A paradoxical reaction means the drugs do the opposite of what they're supposed to. These reactions are rare, but not unheard of.

For the last eight months he's been an unbearable discomfort from this drug, made worse when trying to remove it, because of the additional withdrawal symptoms stemming from physical dependence. He experienced terrible akathisia, which is a condition where the person feels an incredible, endless, irresistible restlessness, bordering on panic, and an inability to sit still. The reaction made him suicidal. After several failed treatment attempts in North American hospitals, including attempts at tapering and micro tapering, we had to seek an emergency medical benzodiazepine detox, which we were only able to find in Russia. It was incredibly grueling, and was further complicated by severe pneumonia, which we've been told he developed in one of the previous hospitals. He's had to spend four weeks in the ICU in terrible shape, but with the help of some extremely competent and courageous doctors he survived.

The decision to bring him to Russia was made in extreme desperation when we couldn't find any better option. The uncertainty around his recovery has been one of the most difficult and scary experiences we've ever had. So, finally, dad is on the mend, even though there's a lot of physiological damage that he needs to recover from. He's improving and is off with the horrible medication. His sense of humor is back, he's smiling again for the first time in months, but he still has a long way to go to recover fully. It appears that we're going to get through this by the skin of our teeth.

So let me make a couple of things clear. Neither our family, nor the doctors here, believe that this is a case of psychological addiction. Benzodiazepine physical dependence, due to brain changes, can occur in a matter of weeks. It can be made even worse by paradoxical reactions that are difficult to diagnose and can be extremely dangerous. We've been told and hoped that Dad will recover fully, but it will take time, and he still has a ways to go. We're extremely lucky and grateful that he's alive. The next update will come from him directly. Thanks again for all the support.

Unrelated, but here's a song I like.

It’s funny that so many of my peers looked/look up to this guy. I would ask, “you realize he is just telling you to make your bed, wash your benis and get a job right? Can’t you just do those things and stfu about it?” “No,” they said. “He’s a deep, revolutionary thinker.” I’ve even been told his teachings are the “key to long term sobriety,” which extra lulz now.
I mean... what pussy. Why would you need a special long term rehab in Russia to get off benzos? I get it, some people need to medically taper to avoid seizing up, but this seems like vaginal overkill. Rehabs and county jails in the US taper patients & prisoners down to zero in 14 days typically.

Kermit spergs blown the fuck out... again!

Also @Null I dug the song, reminds me of melodysheep.

"Why can't you just do all of those things yourself?"

I don't think that anybody is saying that Peterson's talking points are revolutionary. However, in an age where a lot of things seem pretty aimless, nihilistic, and accusatory towards all men, a little bit of support and encouragement goes a long way. Lots of people need motivation and purpose to do those "obvious" tasks. Peterson's book did that for a lot of people, lolcow or not. I'm not going to laugh at or fault his fans for being really upset by this news.

If Peterson has had this long history of pill popping and intentionally created this image just to get drug money ... Then why did he shut down his Patreon a while back? He essentially threw a lot of money away by doing so. My gut tells me that this is just a lot of bad and unfortunate choices on his part, and that he's not out to bamboozle/scam people a la Milo Yiannopoulos.

I'm not here to say that Peterson is one of the most revolutionary figureheads of our time or anything ... But I do acknowledge that he did help some people in a positive way. I can't find it in me to be like "HAH, prescription drugs are going to fry his brain ... What a hypocrite" especially when hearing the news that his wife is dying of cancer. Shit happens. I agree with the whole concept of not allowing yourself to put people you look up to on an impossible pedestal (since we're all human and make mistakes), but I fail to see how this is one of those "gotcha" moments we all laugh about with lolcows?

And since when are clinical psychologists not allowed to experience things like anxiety, depression, and grief? Must have missed that memo.

From an outsider's perspective, on why people care so much (I don't follow JBP): it seems like he was a surrogate parental figure for a lot of young men and they had an emotional connection / strong sense of loyalty to him for that reason. Maybe because they didn't have dads, or because their parents never told them to clean their rooms and wash their benis. It's not just that he's offering common sense, I think there's more to it. I think it also makes you feel cared for when your parents hold you to standards and make sure you do stuff.

So maybe that's the reason people are soft on him even though this is all pretty gay.

There are a lot of valid reasons to hate Peterson. He made millions selling people on an "antidote to chaos" while pumping himself benzos.

Just want to point out that this is the only "valid reason" you gave, and being against chaos while being addicted to prescription drugs isn't the grand hypocracy you think it is.

I get that in comparison it is weaker. Still it is an opiate (highly addictive, controlled substance, etc). But my question remains; why does she need it? Did she just happen to have a teeth surgery that month? Did she have a muscle-skeletal injury?

The doctors I know won't prescribe almost any opiate, and codeine, I've only seen prescribed just for very old people for strong arthrosis or headaches. Why would a 30 year old "need" a prescription opiate? The oxy for "back pain" is an old junkie cliche; I would expect Mikhalia (Jesus Peterson, naming a daughter Mikhalia) to come up with some bullshit about her autoimmune disease giving her chronic pain. Who knows?

On a side note; if I ever have a kid I'm naming him John or Sarah.
Actually codeine is not highly addictive which is why it’s still OTC in the U.K. and other countries. While they do exist, codeine addicts are very rare because apparently if you take a lot of the stuff it causes headaches. If you try to eat a bunch for a buzz you get a headache (and probably liver damage since much of it comes with Tylenol) The main abuse of it is by people addicted to strong opiates that will take codeine simply to try and take the edge off withdrawals.

Anybody that wants an opiate buzz isn’t going to bother with codeine. The only noted famous codeine addict was Howard Hughes, but he was bugshit crazy and also taking enough Valium to kill an elephant every day.

She probably got a codeine script because she wanted a “real” painkiller but the doctor wasn’t going to give her anything strong or addictive - so codeine it is. I’ve never even bothered to fill codeine scripts I’ve gotten from the dentist - better off with OTC ibuprofen.

You have no idea what you're talking about. The LD50 is between 331 and just over 2kmg per kg in test animals. A man weighing 80kg would have to take 80kg x 331 kg per mg / 2 mg per bar = 13,240 maximum dosage 2mg xanax bars to hit the floor of that range.

The issue is people who take like 10+ mg or even less in some cases and have a drink, Nyquil, painkiller or whatever else or alternatively a good bit of something else and a little xanax and stop breathing

Actually I do, and I’ve seen someone enter respiratory depression from it once. It’s not pretty, and it happens.

I was informing that it’s just not impossible, it’s difficult yes, but definitely doable if you take enough.

On a separate note: People react differently to medication and aren’t a direct comparison to animals, so your numbers can’t be obsessively relied on as the complete truth. Relying on maths like that is just going to have holes poked in your case faster than you can plug them.

Ok, this narrative retards are pushing that he is just doing the tour and books to fuel his drug addiction narrative is stupid on two counts: one, he stopped his tour immediately when he found out about his wife's cancer diagnosis. That's a lot of income that he just gave up on that would fuel his drug addiction, yet he chose to cancel the rest of his tour to be with his wife.
Two, the timeline suggests that he was on benzos after the cancer scare. While there is no hard evidence outside of Peterson's family stating that he got addicted to benzos after the wife's cancer scare, it seems that speculation that he always was on benzos has no proof whatsoever and it's just a bunch or rumorfags speculating.

Watching "Jordan Peterson BTFO'S stupid FEMINIST" compilations on youtube.com does not count as a positive influence.
Couldn't be more based and correct here. I've seen the sort of people who think that getting redpilled through YouTube videos makes them special and it's sad. Might as well admit that your time doing that is less useful than playing a shitty Korean MMO at least with the later you aren't pretending those hours where productive.

It is his daughters official statement.

I'm confused. So according to him I should not masturbate often to keep my thinking clear but it's okay for him to be on a drug haze 24/7 because he couldn't cope?

Many people, including myself and surely many in this forum, have had to deal with personal loss of a family member. Sucks. Still it would not excuse us from turning into dope fiends. Neither it should for him.
