He spelled Kyle's name wrong - journalism 101 sin - but since he called Kyle "young," I'm sure all's forgiven.

I love the inclusive future, where diversity is a fat white guy in drag.

ABOUT THIS PODCAST
At a time when 60% of counties in the United States have no daily newspaper to hold governments and corporations accountable, we have to start asking why. The biggest reason: the rise of big tech.
When 90% of all new digital ad revenue is swallowed by Google and Facebook, it’s becoming impossible to fund the kind of reporting that has uncovered corruption, solved crimes, and literally saved lives.
I was never interested in the business side of journalism. I believed in the separation of church and state. But then, I found myself without a job at a time when the world needs journalism the most. So now, with this project, I’m going to interview the journalists, experts, and leaders who can help us make sense of this crisis and what it means for the future.
Do all counties need a daily newspaper? How did these newspapers exist before digital ad revenue? Why does the world need journalism the most now? How do I get you to interview another young investigative journalist named Violet Cassandra Ocean?

But remember, there’s no career advantage in trooning out. I read that on elite athlete Rachel McKinnon’s Twitter.

Can we start a betting pool poll for when he's going to get fired? Imagine having to deal with the stinkditch troonsplainer at work.

His last job fired him and that place is obsessed with the exact kind of diversity hire that Kyle represented. But he took advantage of that workplace so much that even the boss he had, who used to fire employees for the barest whiff of TERFery, is now more sympathetic to the idea that at least some trans people are wolves in sheep's clothing trying to co-opt the gains of women to help themselves out of the curse of being a mediocre white man. He leaves a trail of transphobia behind him wherever he travels, and has absolutely no ability to "dial it back" and act more human to get along.

I'd say the over/under's on 6 months, with some kind of "performance improvement plan" beginning around Month 4. Wonder if the inevitable lawsuit when he accuses them of transphobic bias for firing him will be what finally tanks that site for good, like the Hogan thing did for Gawker Media.

Oh he won’t last long but it also doesn’t sound like a real job. He specifically it will be nice to go to an office “every couple of days”....like they took pity on a local freelancer and said he could use some the shared workspace on a part time basis. At best he’s being given a trial run he will immediately fuck up and creep out everyone in the office.

Having him only come in occasionally could lead him to lasting a little longer. If it was full time 9-5 office days he wouldn’t last a month. But if he manages to guilt his way into getting invited to after work drinks every one will be avoiding him like the bubonic plague, esp the men.

Could be full time. In a job like that it's very likely they'd give him the ability to work from home most of the time. Places like that are run on a shoestring and probably have hoteling desks, so you don't even have to pay for everyone to have an individual workspace that goes empty most of the day. Work from home saves them money.

The problem is, working from home can make you a black box that doesn't get enough face time to make the friends necessary to succeed in any business. If Kyle had the commitment to do the social labor required to avoid being cut out in the first round of layoffs, he'd still fuck it up because he'd creep people out instead of making lasting friendships.

Agreed - except that the more face time Kyle gets, the more doomed he is. Even Slack time poses an existential danger.

Let's do a site visit. Vox is in the Longfellow Building on Connecticut Avenue, DC's first modernist office building, completed in 1941. It's across from the Nuns of the Battlefield monument.

Vox hired a design firm to build out its space. These are the after pictures they posted.

The last pic with the blue folding chair? Foosball table.

They've got a job ad up for a political reporter.

"This is a permanent, full-time position with excellent benefits—including flexible hours and generous parental leave. Vox Media strives to provide comprehensive healthcare options for our employees and to ensure that our healthcare and other benefits are LGBTQ-inclusive. You'll be joining a group of focused, hard-working, creative people who are passionate about doing work that's challenging and fun—and who strive to maintain a healthy work/life balance."

They show some foresight in inviting us to apply for future openings.
