It probably depends on where you live, but at my school growing up we were never required to read it. So at least in some places it hasn't been required for a pretty long time. It really should be because it's extremely relevant to the modern era.

But yeah, people love to misuse 1984 quotes the same way people misuse Nazi comparisons. "The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to perpetual" for instance, is useful for critiquing a lot of modern moral crusades and activism. The point isn't that these moral crusaders are literally Hitler Big Brother, but that their demands are deliberately impossible to meet so that they can keep demanding things endlessly. It's a very succinct and impactful way to describe a very common manipulation tactic.

Fatt's quote, in the context he's using it in, means nothing more than if he'd Tweeted, "Liar, liar, pants on fire," but this way it sounds deeper, more important, and scarier to people who don't actually think about it. In context of course it makes no damn sense, because the quote is describing how the regime forces people to deny reality under threat of torture, imprisonment, and death, which anyone who's not a batshit insane schizo lefty knows doesn't actually apply to the Trump administration.

How does anyone sweat like that after sitting in a cold movie theater for nearly two hours? Matt clearly is not lifting enough boulders if he is not only fat but so out of shape he sweats watching a movie. His daily physical activity is probably walking from the bed->kitchen(breakfast)->desk->kitchen(lunch)->desk->kitchen(dinner)->couch(Rachel Maddow)->bed. With the bathroom in there as needed. There should be no reason why he doesn't get one to two miles of walking each day just taking the kid out for fresh air. If something doesn't change expect to see his weight increase in very noticeable ways.
