It's called
Entryism when they specifically infiltrate organizations to swing them leftward. With commies, it's usually associated with Maoists -- Mao taught that all institutions must either be made communist or be burned to the ground so no one not of the party can use them.
The more broad tactic of forcing groups just to shift a little bit leftward, just a touch, is called
spectrum of allies analysis and can be done from outside, inside, or any variant therein. This is your "scare the shit out of an organization so they passively support you just to avoid being seen as supporting hate speech" stuff. The idea is you analyze a group's support of you, your idea, your ideology, etc into one of 5 categories -- active support, passive support, neutral, passive opposition, active opposition -- and try to push them just one tick to the left. If they actively oppose you, silence them so they do so privately instead of publicly. If they passively oppose you, get them "tired of politics" and to "embrace inclusivity" so they're neutral on it. That sort of thing.

This is one way how they force the overton window so that radical, bat fucking insane left ideas like open borders or UBI are just considered a little zany and fringe while even basic "we should probably prioritize our own citizens with our tax dollars" nationalism is considered so far to the right that it comes with mandatory jackboots. (Another is pretending there's no difference between white identitarians, white nationalists, and white supremacists, which creates a false anchor point, but that's for another discussion.)
Once you know the tactic watching the SJWs and the Cultural Marxists do it in hobbies becomes blatant. There's a reason they went after Aheigo shirts and tried to go after "aggressive navels" at cons, why they keep pushing ever so slight censorship and cultural on manga / anime / LN / games, etc etc. Another good example that keeps coming up is their constant bitching about Female Space Marines in Warhammer 40k.
It's all about driving things one "tick" over towards their political beliefs, be they Marxism, Faux Feminism, what have you. Each "tick" makes it that much easier for them to perform entryism, to grasp control and either "fix" the group or burn it to the ground. Because remember, everything must serve their ideology or be destroyed so the "evil" people can't use it.
Conversely, it's all about either pushing stuff they don't like one "tick" to the right, so that companies/people/ideas you're opposed to -- like the comicsgate artists, or voice actors you want to blacklist -- remain as close to "active opposition" as possible. Someone speaks out about Vic not being a bad person? Scream at them until they stop being active supporters and become passive supporters. Someone remains neutral about Vic? Manipulate them until they become passive opponents of his. Funimation passively opposing Vic? Demand they speak out publicly, becoming an active opponent.
God forbid if the right ever gets enough of a clue to start doing this stuff. The left works very very hard to prevent the right from ever organizing -- that's the real reason twitter starts banning people and why jealous idiots are signal boosted by the left so the right constantly self destructs -- if the right had any clue about how to do some of this Alynski activism they'd actually be able to fight back.
