Isn't Blag going downhill fast, medically speaking? I seem to recall some stories from not too long ago that he's got some sort of early-onset dementia thing going on. It might have been an act of mercy, if that's what's going on.

He's also already been in prison for 8 years and still had 6 years left on his 14-year sentence (Maximum, anyways. He'd still have served at least 12 years before an early release was possible). He'd be just shy of 70 years old by the time he was released from prison. A commutation isn't a pardon, it's just a reduction to the harshness of the sentence, and Blagwhatever already served nearly a decade in prison.
I'm definitely not a huge fan of the guy, but I'm also not a fan of old people dying in prison for non-violent crimes (Conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud), especially after they've already been in there for almost ten years. It was sort of an odd sentence to commute, but I really feel like both sides of the aisle are freaking out about this way more than they ought to be. I mean the headline on Axios right now is "TRUMP PARDONS THE SWAMP" for Christ's sake.

Exactly. There's an interesting and direct parallel between his case and Stone's ie. that he was overprosecuted for purely political reasons.

He just had the bad luck to be guilty as hell and uncharismatic on top of being a prime political target, meaning nobody felt like swooping in and saying "15 years seems kinda harsh for even D-grade Fed charges they usually only levy against mobsters who can't be caught any other way...."

Sounds like a solid pardon to me. Fourteen years for a white collar crime with no victim or damages is a nakedly political vindictive prosecution.

AS fun as the TDS can be at times, it can get tiresome, and I think we all need to sit back with a nice hot covfefe and a two scoop sundae and reflect back on things....
I was getting irritated with the constant, chameleon-like outrage, as a new offense drown out all memory of everything before, and in October, I was going to start keeping track of all the shit "the news" or vast numbers of autists were referencing to call for impeachment. I'm horribly lazy, though, so I did no such thing. It would be a daily barrage of stupid, and I would have probably eaten a bullet if I'd gone through with it. So I have a couple of entries that people were calling for impeachment over, and tthen a random list of recent shit that has people either calling Trump Hitler, the end of democracy, or in need of peach mints. It would be good to collate all this endless shit since he got the R nomination in a nice concise form, with newspaper article links and dates and shit, but I'm too lazy. It would be good to see the point form madness, virtually daily, that is spewed out about Trump in one short document. It's really quite formidable and dizzying, and I suppose that's the point....
Anyhow, here are a few things off the top of my head, and guaranteed I haven't touched a tenth of them since last fall. It would be appalling, and any sensible person would start building gas chambers for the farce that is the media if all the nonsense were collected together.

He was talking about one of the many books coming out that supposedly exposed how trump ran the Whitehouse. I shit you not he said even if this book is 99-95% percent fake the percent that is real is more than enough to prove he shouldn't be president.

Trump has long believed that Blagojevich's sentence was excessive. Here's him back in March 2012 saying that. I'm not here to debate the merits of his opinion, but it is certainly not one born recently out of convenience.

The media basically ignored the story when it came up the first time, especially when it became clear that someone may have bought Obama his seat to begin with. It's more that Democrats really hate Bloomberg often comparing him to Trump and saying he's Trump a D next to his name and hating him for being a billionaire. Occasionally they hate him for the policies he did as Mayor which were horrible.
