Also got the new laptop today, and have put it away.
I'm about to go pick up my new phone. I knew last week it was high time to go get one, but I dragged my feet. That meant I had to spend an hour earlier today calling around to find a store with one in stock (and I didn't even care about the color). It took five calls just to find one, and a sixth call to find one in black. Ordering it online would have meant waiting until a least March 5 to get it because the model I want is backordered, and I wasn't going to risk that backorder becoming a cancelled order if the shipment didn't arrive (from South Korea).

I've also spent the last week or so unloading stocks in companies that are mos likely to have serious trouble weathering the disruption (or, more accurately, total breakdown) of their supply chain. It's good timing, because the prices were ridiculously, stupidly high; whoever is buying now is going to take a fucking beating.

In early 2008, I had a hunch that the market was going to tank later in the year--just looking around I couldn't conceive of how it couldn't; things were just insane. So by June, I had liquidated everything, which wasn't a huge amount, but back then it seemed so. Then October came, and between October 2008 and March 2009 I put every last goddamned dime I could scrounge up into dreadnought, blue-chip, dividend-paying stocks, all at fire-sale prices.

That strategy, over the following 11 years, has paid off handsomely. Really handsomely. My ass is covered, there.

This time, I'm debating whether to spend the proceeds on more dreadnought stocks at fire-sale prices when the market shits the bed again--as it will--or buying a shack on a piece of dirt out beyond the suburbs. In my city, we've got a homeless problem that isn't on par with San Francisco's yet, but very quickly will be if things go as badly as I think they might. I'm a city-dweller by nature, but I'm also a realist, and maybe it's time to give myself another option.

Good thing Anniston’s Center for Domestic Preparedness is a FEMA facility. Wish there was a Alex Jones FEMA song remix out there for this.

I don't know shit about hospitals except that I don't like them but when it comes to construction, I do know that drywall is made from porous paper and porous gypsum, if you've got someone with an infectious disease in a room for days or weeks whether they live or die, if that bug is permeating those walls, and those acoustic ceiling tiles, how can just spraying it with disinfectant help, if said bug is down in the nooks and crannies at the microscopic level?

(Man, I apologize for that run on sentence.)

In the US, at least, a lot of hospitals use antibacterial architectural coatings in the interior. Even if it's not antibacterial it's usually some kind of epoxy or urethane that renders the surface relatively impermeable.

This has less to do with bacteria and more to do with psych patients ripping lines out and spraying blood all over the walls and it needs to be easily cleanable so the next patient doesn't wander into some shit that looks like a charnel house.

W-WE CAN'T SHUT IT DOWN!!!!!!

Big OY VEY, can't wait until we have to send millions more in aid to our GREATEST ALLIES because they got their balls collectively kicked in by Corona-chan.

This does surprise me, however. When it comes to matters of national security Israel runs a pretty tight ship, so I'm taken aback by the fact they'd slip up when it comes to a known contagion.

This only adds further evidence to my pet theory that some Chinese /pol/ shitposter genetically engineered this shit.

Islam= immunity apparently.

The idea that disease is transmissible between people without divine intention goes against some long held interpretations of the words of a certain Prophet. It's speculated that the renowned Andalusian scholar, physician and forerunner of modern germ theory Ibn al-Khatib, was imprisoned and executed during the later half of the 14th century for the crime of heresy and atheism for arguing that the plague was in fact contagious, based on observation and experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if the religious authorities would vocally push the idea that Corona Chan is a free ticket to martyrdom and a mercy should the death toll get out of hand. Like they where doing during the Black Death.

TL:biggrin:R: If you get infected it, it's because Allah willed it, and if you die it's a mercy and your a martyr. so win, win.

622.Narrated Rafi` bin Khadij
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "Fever is from the heat of Hell, so abate fever with water."
623.Narrated Anas bin Malik
Some people from the tribes of `Ukl and `Uraina came to Allah's Apostle and embraced Islam and said, "O Allah's Apostle! We are owners of livestock and have never been farmers," and they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So Allah's Apostle ordered that they be given some camels and a shepherd, and ordered them to go out with those camels and drink their milk and urine. So they set out, but when they reached a place called Al-Harra, they reverted to disbelief after their conversion to Islam, killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When this news reached the Prophet he sent in their pursuit (and they were caught and brought). The Prophet ordered that their eyes be branded with heated iron bars and their hands be cut off, and they were left at Al-Harra till they died in that state.
624.Narrated Saud
The Prophet said, "If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague breaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place."
625.Narrated `Abdullah bin `Abbas
`Umar bin Al-Khattab departed for Sham and when he reached Sargh, the commanders of the (Muslim) army, Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah and his companions met him and told him that an epidemic had broken out in Sham. `Umar said, "Call for me the early emigrants." So `Umar called them, consulted them and informed them that an epidemic had broken out in Sham. Those people differed in their opinions. Some of them said, "We have come out for a purpose and we do not think that it is proper to give it up," while others said (to `Umar), "You have along with you. other people and the companions of Allah's Apostle so do not advise that we take them to this epidemic." `Umar said to them, "Leave me now." Then he said, "Call the Ansar for me." I called them and he consulted them and they followed the way of the emigrants and differed as they did. He then said to them, Leave me now," and added, "Call for me the old people of Quraish who emigrated in the year of the Conquest of Mecca." I called them and they gave a unanimous opinion saying, "We advise that you should return with the people and do not take them to that (place) of epidemic." So `Umar made an announcement, "I will ride back to Medina in the morning, so you should do the same." Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah said (to `Umar), "Are you running away from what Allah had ordained?" `Umar said, "Would that someone else had said such a thing, O Abu 'Ubaida! Yes, we are running from what Allah had ordained to what Allah has ordained. Don't you agree that if you had camels that went down a valley having two places, one green and the other dry, you would graze them on the green one only if Allah had ordained that, and you would graze them on the dry one only if Allah had ordained that?" At that time `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf, who had been absent because of some job, came and said, "I have some knowledge about this. I have heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'If you hear about it (an outbreak of plague) in a land, do not go to it; but if plague breaks out in a country where you are staying, do not run away from it.' " `Umar thanked Allah and returned to Medina.
626.Narrated `Abdullah bin 'Amir
`Umar went to Sham and when h ached Sargh, he got the news that an epidemic (of plague) had broken out in Sham. `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf told him that Allah's Apostle said, "If you hear that it (plague) has broken out in a land, do not go to it; but if it breaks out in a land where you are present, do not go out escaping from it."
627.Narrated Abu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "Neither Messiah (Ad-Dajjal) nor plague will enter Medina."
628.Narrated Anas bin Malik
Allah's Apostle said, "(Death from) plague is martyrdom for every Muslim."
629.Narrated Abu Huraira
The Prophet said, "He (a Muslim) who dies of an Abdominal disease is a a martyr, and he who dies of plague is a martyr."
630.Narrated `Aisha
(the wife of the Prophet) that she asked Allah's Apostle about plague, and Allah's Apostle informed her saying, "Plague was a punishment which Allah used to send on whom He wished, but Allah made it a blessing for the believers. None (among the believers) remains patient in a land in which plague has broken out and considers that nothing will befall him except what Allah has ordained for him, but that Allah will grant him a reward similar to that of a martyr."
631.Narrated `Aisha
During the Prophet's fatal illness, he used to recite the Mu'auwidhat (Surat An-Nas and Surat Al-Falaq) and then blow his breath over his body. When his illness was aggravated, I used to recite those two Suras and blow my breath over him and make him rub his body with his own hand for its blessings." (Ma`mar asked Az-Zuhri: How did the Prophet use to blow? Az-Zuhri said: He used to blow on his hands and then passed them over his face.)

Edit: Could probably give a little background on who Ibn al-Khatib was. One of the forerunners of modern germ theory and disease transmission you probably never heard of.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing wacko religious people of any religion doing the "pray it away" thing or some kind of martyr thing if someone gets ill. There are some weird religious people who aren't very smart about infections or serious health issues.

Local companies are going to emerge almost immediately if supply chains from foreign countries fail. Remember when Hostess went out of business and declared bankruptcy and stopped producing Twinkies? Remember what happened between then and when they sold out and got their shit together? Other companies I never even heard of stepped up to the plate to take their place until they came back to retake their real estate at Walmart and gas station shelves. There are people out there banging on the walls from the outside to get in just for a chance to make a stand over China and the globalist economy as a whole. There's going to be turbulence no doubt, but it'll be temporary.

This will be like how the black plague (from China) lead to European peasants getting paid more. Those peasants invested their money into banks and joint stock companies and birthed early modern capitalism.

Now a Chinese plague will undo de-industrialization.

Surprise Anniston Alabama, your getting people who test positive at Travis and Lackland AFB because "under the quarantine arrangement at those bases, evacuees couldn’t remain on site once they tested positive for the virus."

Anniston, Alabama is where the US Army has a huge chemical weapons disposal facility, as well. Take that for what its worth.
