🐱 Pornography: The new gateway drug

Cell phones are giving kids access to a whole new world, including that of pornography, and while parents can use every "protection" out there, officials say it's not always enough.
Brandon and Athena Aronson, who raise their six boys in Lynchburg say it can be a handful and technology doesn't make it any easier.
"We're tired of this garbage being in our children's hands," Brandon said.

While the Aronson's are not experts, they take every step possible to keep their children away from online pornography, which includes monitoring activity and using software protection.
"You might be your teenager's worst enemy for a while but consistency will pay off," Athena added.
Sgt. Steve Anders, who works with the works with the Southern Virginia Unit Crimes Against Children in Bedford County, agrees.
He said parents need to run "a tight ship" when it comes to cell phones because he has seen the worst of online pornography.
"It's hard core sex acts, it's torture, it's bondage, it's bestiality involving children," he said. "Some of the youngest we've seen the child still had the umbilical cord attached."
Complicating things even more, Sgt. Anders says children are starting to get access to cell phones at a younger age, leading to earlier porn exposure.
According to a Huffington Post article, the average age a child first sees porn is 11 years old. Family Safe Media statistics show 93 percent of boys and 62 percent of girls have seen online pornography before the age of 18.

Sgt. Anders says children are curious and look it up on their phones, or a friend shows it to them. He says early access to porn is leading to something called "improper arousal patterns".
"And like a drug, your brain can build up a tolerance to the material you're seeing so you seek out more extreme types of pornography to get the same sense of satisfaction and arousal," he said.
Research shows pornography can be a "gateway" to something much more serious like child pornography, even sexual assault. In fact, Sgt. Sanders says almost 100 percent of sex offenders they interview have dealt with porn addictions.
Aaron Gaston, a Next Generation Pastor at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, said exposure to pornography is something they talk about in youth groups.
"The Bible teaches us we are to guard our hearts and guard our eyes," Pastor Gaston said.

Gaston advises parents to get involved in a support community and come up with a strict technology plan. The Aronson's are on board with that plan, because in the end, they say it's worth it.
I want to be able to look at our daughters-in-law and say we did everything we could to teach our son's to be the men they needed to be, to be your husbands.
The Huffington Post said Amaze.org, which is dedicated to providing adolescents with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education, has YouTube videos to help guide the discussion about pornography, including a video called 'Porn: Fact or Fiction'

I just can't feature why an 11 year old needs a cell phone. I can see MAYBE letting high school kids have cell phones, since that's when they start being much more independent with dating, social circles, jobs, and driving. But younger than that and I believe you're doing a disservice to your child. My boys won't be getting cells until they're in high school at the earliest.

The media, who pushes drag queen story time and pushes prepubescent kids to be genderfluid or gay is supposedly worried about pornography :story:

Maybe lazy parents shouldn’t parent by shoving a screen in their child’s face. I see so many shitty parents who let the iPad raise their kids who are later baffled that they turn out to be fuckups.

Why is the most obvious solution never talked about? Just fucking ban minors from using the internet or create a separate, highly-moderated internet just for minors to use.
I don't care about your ugly kids, if they turn into cookie cutters and porno-addicts, it's your fault since you only really get mentally/emotionally addicted to something when you're using it to fill in for something else you think is missing from your life.

Porn, like any stimuli, should be used in moderation. If you feel like you're getting addicted to something, get help. Also porn has been around since the dawn of society, probably even earlier than that. We've always like it.

I mean, your prefrontal cortex may go right out the door, but long-term porn consumption isn't going to make you into a cheese pizza-consuming super deviant.

I had a pretty basic prepaid Nokia in school (it had a neat MIDI composer, though) in middle school primarily to contact family.

Ideally, it shouldn't be used... at all.

It still weirds me out seeing six year olds with phones or tablets.

Maybe I'm getting old.

No, I'm with you. I didn't have a cell phone until my early 20s, and that was when cameras were just being integrated into the higher end phones.

dont buy kids smartphones if you dont feel safe what they can find on the internet or having no intention of watching over their internet history. maybe its the old man in me talking (turning 30 this year) but seeings kids and even toddlers glued on smartphones and tablets just feels wrong too me. it cant be good for their eyes. hell, i hear some school teaches kids how to typ on a android device before writing with pen and paper.

Well maybe not, but it's almost guaranteed to take you on the path from incel to transtrender...

It is a larger problem for the younger generations of females, the acceptance without question of things like choking, and anal; and the attitudes of 'it's normal', 'all the other girls do it', and the standard 'you'd let me do it if you really loved me'.

All of this is happening at younger and younger ages, as we transition into a society where sex with minors is no longer abhorrent, and deviant behaviour is no longer seen as anything but 'boys will be boys' or 'they are kids it's harmless'.

A lot of today's problems could be solved if lazy parents stopped pretending it wasn't their job to control what their own kids were doing.

Don't get your child a tablet, or any internet capable device. Get them a flip phone they can use to call and text and that's it so they have it for emergencies. You don't need to buy them a tablet just because they and you feel an addictive need to be attached to social media at all times. All that cyberbullying and online harassment and threatening behavior? Doesn't matter if little Billy doesn't have a Facebook account. You're not entitled to have one. You only think you're entitled because you're a brainless tool who fell for Facebook's marketing strategy to say it's the hip new thing and you'll be left behind without it. Well guess what, it's Facebook's job to sell itself.

There's no way this is going to work. Hell, they'll just be drawing their own porn in order to feed their appetite! And now your kid is a furry or a weeb or something, all because you made sex sexy and forbidden just like the apple of Eden.

You know what happens if you don't give kids candy? They'll go find someone who will.

Is that really what you want? No? Okay, then let them jerk it to normal people having sex with other people consensually and maybe you won't find yourself with a REAL problem 5 years down the road! I don't know, I still feel like television viewers are cumbrain idiots and porn rots your brain.

Some of these people should really try dopamine fasting for a whole week. But, no, let's ban pornography and anything else that brings us pleasure so we can all be fucking miserable involuntary celibates. Because that's worked out so great in the past!
