5-10 years back hospitals around the world, including China, was supplied with a last resort antibiotic that should never be used because it would be bad if something grows resistant to it. It was the nuclear option.
Some time later they(WHO?) found pig farmers feeding it to their pigs to make them fatter.

@Otterly, you obviously know these things, am I just misremembering this? It was something completely absurd.

Was it Colistin? That was one that was supposed to be ‘last resort’ and ended up being used on farms.
Western countries are policed endlessly for handing out antibiotics to people. It’s actually becoming a bit of an issue where I am because it’s almost impossible to get prescribed the bloody things and monitoring of rates of prescription is rife. It’s ridiculous past a point - of course no one should be getting antibiotics for the sniffles, but we are seeing people suffer when they don’t need to. It’s pointless because the resistance isn’t arising here - it’s in places like China where industrial use of antibiotics in farming and unrestricted human buying occurs. I cannot remember the last time I heard of an antibiotic resistant strain arising in a western country. It’s always India or China or somewhere and it’s a problem because people bring their fucking multi drug resistant TB back to the UK (where some London boroughs have rates well in excess of third world areas) and spit everywhere

Norinco builds decent quality replicas of Western and Russian arms. Their domestically produced military hardware is garbage. Unless you're already being cucked by the long arm of Belt and Road, you purchase your expensive and good shit from NATO and your cheap and okay stuff from Russia.

China is shit at producing domestic anything. I bought a Chinese motorcycle that is a rip-off of an 80s Honda design. Great quality, but the quality of it has nothing to do with the Chinese. The design and the tooling are all taken from Honda. Their CCP-sponsored culture of nobody taking responsibility for fear of being dragged to prison or shot has pretty much cucked their domestic entrepreneurial nature.
No china has quite a few domestically designed and produced firearms that are actually pretty decent such as the Type 81 rifle and QBZ-95 rifle. Countries even North Korea typically don't tend skimp on their Firearms.
And USG banned their import because they produced a cheap, reliable product. Interesting.
Supposedly Chinese firearms are banned from the US because the Chinese tried to sell APCs, missiles and machine guns to a criminal gang in the US.

Don't know if it was Colistin, I'm not good with remembering the names, I'm better at remembering absurdity and insanity.

ADVchina is a fun youtube channel for those wanting two different western perspectives on living in China.

If you don't mind a simplified animation from 2016 from a liberal German youtube channel, they do go into colistin as being the big "uh oh" in China. I'm still deciding on whether they're soft-shoeing around China to be nice, or to nudge people that Chinese practices can be a problem. Videos like these are what some teachers show when they don't want to teach class for 10 or so minutes:

I just opened the company app to order some office supplies and then I get this notification:

"Respirators/masks: Due to the corona virus pandemic, the Chinese government has been checking production facilities and stocks of medicines and protective equipment for weeks. From today's perspective, the FFP2 and FFP3 masks will not be delivered before June 2020."

Yeah we're already running into PPE shortages.

I got a message from a colleague that they were expected to reuse their disposable N95, tossing it into a plastic bag in the anteroom between patient visits. Cool. Non-clinical hospital administration staff is going to kill us all.

Food for thought.
China, known as the world's biggest polluter, has been taking dramatic steps to clean up and fight climate change.
So why is it also building hundreds of coal-fired power plants in other countries?
How is this related to the Coronavirus?
The majority of the workforce is Chinese.
How do i know that?
I've got one at my doorstep, 20 miles, another one around 50 miles away. They've little container villages build around the Powerplants, mostly self sustaining, only importing the bear necessities from the locals. Have seen them raise chickens and pigs on the grounds, heard they hold occasional Cockfights in the evenings, fun bunch. Know a guy, a local from my town, which works at my local bus station and whose son or son-in-law has been working something in regards to logistics at the Powerplant. Went there to ask him for some insider, health related info on those Plant workers today, to no avail tho. Seems like he is on leave...

Foxconn offers incentives for workers in China

The sources said strict travel and traffic controls and fears of being infected with the coronavirus have discouraged many employees from returning. But Foxconn has offered free shuttle-bus commuting, meals and accommodation for workers in addition to thorough disinfection operations at plant sites, the sources.

First confirmed case in Switzerland

Switzerland reported its first coronavirus case on Tuesday in canton Ticino in the south of the country. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is due to give more information at a press conference in Bern at 5pm (Swiss time).

Laboratory tests carried out in Geneva uncovered a coronavirus case in canton Ticino, authorities told the Keystone-SDA News Agency on Tuesday.

So far, about 300 suspected cases of Covid-19 have been tested in Switzerland, but there had been no confirmed cases until now, according to the interior ministry.

On Monday the Swiss authorities announced that they were beefing up measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus from neighbouring Italy, while stressing that the situation in Switzerland is under control.
