Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You keep saying that like it matters that a literally dying country is owed all this money that they have no way of forcing out of the States. Funny thing about debt is that you can ignore it, the lender is the one at risk.
Being the US gov is sort of like being the Banker in Monopoly. No matter who wins you never lose. You ARE the house.

Had an interesting convo with my elderly Mom today.
It made me aware of something I haven't been doing IRL, and that is communicating honestly and truthfully (with people I know and care about) some of the info that has been collated here. Not to alarm, but to educate, gently.

Mom gets most of her world info from one source, probably like most elders and normies. For my mom, that info comes from Fox network on the TV... I was not surprised to hear that what little she knew about Corona, was heavily biased in one direction and sorely lacking in actual info. And my mom even spent almost 50 years in the medical profession, so I kind of expected her to have a little more savvy on world medical happenings. She hadn't even heard about the outbreak in Italy and how large it was; nor the occurrences in Iran.

I was appalled at how little news she had been exposed to, but gladdened by how open she was to more info. That probably has to do in part with the fact that her father barely survived the Spanish Flu in 1919. I did not present it as doomsday bullshit, in fact, most of what she had heard from her particular source was rather skewed towards conspiritard horseshit. so mostly what I told her was the numerical facts. When I see her tomorrow, I will bring my PC and let her have a gander at as much of this thread as she can stand at 84 years old and will probably start her off with watching Dr. Grampy Campbells vids . I was happy that the question she kept asking me was if the this info was true and verified, Our elders are not stupid, just not savvy to the whole world of info.

All this to say, one of the most proactive things anyone of us can do is to spread AWARENESS to those we know irl. The info contained in this thread is common sense for any type of virus, so even p.assing on the info that there is a "bad strain of flu" going around can only serve to remind people to protect themselves and others. Give as much info to that individual as they are able to grok. Calm the more prone to hysteria, and wake up the uninformed. Just like we do here on KF, let them read it all, and then form their own opinions.

There is no stopping a pandemic, if this is what Corona turns out to be, but forewarned is forearmed. At the very least, it may stop the old fucks from coughing in the buffet at the Golden Corral.

I share this site and this thread with many people. They need the straight stuff. Between all of us, believe one gets a lot of good info from many places around the world. Also keep advising people to buy certain things now while the getting is good.

Again, I thank everyone for all the information. 👍 Forewarned is indeed forearmed. The straight stuff beats rumors, bullshit, and CCP/WHO lies.

When the first cases are confirmed in the South I can guarantee that panic will ensue. We're known for being drama whores for a reason, more so in the South.
Well here we are. I'm very panicked now.

BRAVO KOJIMA
Lol the guy who literally made a game for the express purpose of lecturing people about immigration and the importance of connecting people together over cultural gaps is afraid of the Chinese flu. How principled.

Yeah, good luck calling on U.S. debt when the one thing you had as leverage, your low production costs, just went up in smoke. Like anyone cares that you'll increase the cost on your own goods when you can't deploy a workforce to make those goods. Not to mention the severe economic ramifications to yourself by uprooting the value of the U.S. dollar by making that call, both lowering the demand of the dollar and increasing the value of the yuan exponentially, making China unattractive and non-competitive as a producer anyway.
Oh, that's the updated version.

Find a copy of FM 21-76. That's the good one.
It's ya boy, archive.org in the house.

Coronavirus expert says he knows when the virus 'will burn itself out,' according to leaked analysis
By Mark Puleo, AccuWeather staff writer
HEALTH Updated Feb. 12, 2020 4:23 PM

With the overall death toll climbing each day, but the daily death toll showing signs of subsiding, fear and uncertainty have spread farther and farther around the globe as the novel coronavirus continues to captivate the world’s attention. However, John Nicholls, a pathology professor at the University of Hong Kong, says he knows when the virus will become inactive.

In a private conference call organized last week by CLSA, a brokerage firm based in Hong Kong, investment analysts had a chance to ask Nicholls, one of the world's foremost experts on the topic, questions about the novel coronavirus. In the days since the call took place, details of Nicholls' analysis have surfaced on social media and elsewhere online, including a transcript of the call.

Nicholls responded to emailed questions from AccuWeather on Wednesday and confirmed his participation in the discussion, but emphasized that his remarks were made in “a personal capacity” and meant to remain “private.” He said the call was recorded “without my knowledge or consent” and then leaked on social media. When asked by AccuWeather, Nicholls did not dispute any of quotes attributed to him in the leaked transcript. CLSA has not responded to AccuWeather's request for a comment on the conference call.

The transcript of the call showed Nicholls believes weather conditions will be a key factor in the demise of the novel coronavirus. Referencing the SARS outbreak from 2002 and 2003, Nicholls said he thinks similar weather factors will also shut down the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"Three things the virus does not like: 1. Sunlight, 2. Temperature, and 3. Humidity," Nicholls said in response to a question about when he thinks confirmed cases will peak.

"Sunlight will cut the virus' ability to grow in half so the half-life will be 2.5 minutes and in the dark it's about 13 to 20 [minutes]," Nicholls said. "Sunlight is really good at killing viruses."

For that reason, he also added that he doesn't expect areas such as Australia, Africa and the Southern hemisphere to see high rates of infection because they are in the middle of summer.

Regarding temperatures, Nicholls said the warmer the better for stopping the spread of the virus, according to the transcript of the conference call.

"The virus can remain intact at 4 degrees (39 degrees Fahrenheit) or 10 degrees (50 F) for a longer period of time," Nicholls said, referring to Celsius measurements, according to the transcript. "But at 30 degrees (86 degrees F) then you get inactivation. And high humidity -- the virus doesn't like it either," he added, the transcript of the call showed.

However, Nicholls also said that he doesn't consider SARS or MERS, a Middle Eastern novel virus that spread in 2012, to be an accurate comparison for this year's outbreak. Rather, the novel coronavirus most closely relates to a severe case of the common cold.

"Compared to SARS and MERS, we are talking about a coronavirus that has a mortality rate of eight to 10 times less deadly to SARS to MERS," Nicholls said. "So, a correct comparison is not SARS or MERS but a severe cold. Basically, this is a severe form of the cold."

Similar to a common cold, the surrounding environment of the outbreak plays an important role in determining the survivability and spreadability of the virus, he continued. Because of the impending shift in seasons, Nicholls said he expects the spread of the virus to be curbed in a matter of months.

"I think it will burn itself out in about six months," Nicholls said.

According to the transcript, Nicholls elaborated on exactly when he expects the novel coronavirus to subside as investment analysts posed more questions.

"The environment is a crucial factor. The environment will be unfavorable for growth around May," Nicholls said. "The evidence is to look at the common cold -- it's always during winter. So the natural environment will not be favorable in Asia in about May."

Average temperatures typically reach as high as 86 F in Wuhan, the outbreak's epicenter, on June 17. The AccuWeather forecast calls for temperatures ranging from a high in the low 60s F to a low of below 30 F over the next seven days.

When asked about the probability of the novel coronavirus becoming endemic, Nicholls responded, "If it is like SARS it will not be endemic. It most likely will be a hit and run just like SARS."

Outside of China, Nicholls added to AccuWeather that he would expect the impacts of the virus to be varied in places such as Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. Singapore, Nicholls said, may potentially see the virus linger for longer due to an abundance of large public spaces with indoor air-conditioning, such as malls, where people congregate and temperatures and humidity remain lowered.

AccuWeather Founder and CEO Joel Myers speculated earlier this month that spring may be a pivotal time for the fate of the coronavirus. In response to Nicholls analysis, Myers said, “By mid-April we should know” whether the virus is on the decline because of the changing weather.

Experts that AccuWeather has spoken to previously have stopped short of linking weather to the spread of the virus.

Earlier this month, Andrew Pekosz, Ph.D. professor and vice chair of the W. Harry Feinstone Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology at Johns Hopkins University, told AccuWeather cooler weather provides more favorable conditions for the spread of most respiratory viruses.

"Many respiratory viruses transmit better at low temperature and humidity, but we have no data on how this might affect 2019-nCoV transmission," Pekosz said in an email to AccuWeather on Feb. 4.

"Respiratory coronaviruses do appear more frequently in cooler months (late fall, winter). Since we don’t know how this virus was transmitted within its natural host, it's difficult to predict if it will have the same pattern as human respiratory coronaviruses," Pekosz said at the time.

Nicholls' comments, while made privately, represent the most definitive tie to the weather a health expert has made yet.

At the University of Hong Kong, Nicholls has spent the past 25 years studying coronavirus and he served as a key member of the team that characterized SARS. The Hong Kong University Faculty of Medicine's Clinical Research Centre also created the world's first lab-grown copy of novel coronavirus, according to CNN correspondent Kristie Lu Stout, giving researchers a major breakthrough in understanding the behavior of the virus.

However, in an interview with Lu Stout, Nicholls said there is one key difference between prior outbreaks and the current spread of the novel coronavirus. Unlike previous versions of coronavirus, the novel coronavirus has been able to be spread before symptoms present themselves in patients.

But despite that frightening trait, Nicholls' long-term optimism hasn't changed in other public remarks that he's made recently.

"My feeling is that this is going to be just like SARS, that the world is going to get a very bad cold for about five months," Nicholls told CNN last week.

"Of course the weather and climate will be crucial," Myers said of the virus' capacity to spread as the seasons change. "Where spring comes early with above-normal temps and more sunshine, the virus spread will slow faster than where clouds diminish the sunshine and temperatures and humidities are slow to rise."

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially designated the virus COVID-19 on Tuesday, adding that the first vaccine could be available in 18 months, according to Reuters.

dunno if I'm late I'm not up to date but we got 2 more cases over here in spain and a buncha maybes.
ain't got much time so I'll edit this message with translates/archives and shit tonight but quick summary of the important part:
2 more cases (that's numbers 3 and 4) in spain. one's the wife of that Tenerife infected (I think he was the second), she was quarantined already so that's contained. Other is some italian that lives in Barcelona. And I am LOVING every second of that because daym fuck Barcelona so hard, I already told you what history they got of trying hard as they can to censor this shit because they're all globalist cucks who abuse spanish tax laws to get away with so much bullshit. Of course they tried to bury the case and of course as I told you EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER took delight in leaking every minute fact about that. Shitting on the catalonians is so pleasurable for your average spaniard than many are celebrating today's HoI4 DLC just because of the anarchist movement and how good it feels to stomp on their asses. Fucking kek.
Also 10 "suspected" cases. At this point that's pretty much everyone who has been out of the country since christmas and now has a viral pneumonia which taking on account the aforementioned colds and flu outbreaks probably means not a single one of them is actually old corona-chan's doing. Hell just yesterday we discarded 3 "suspecteds" that's not really news. But the Barcelona thing is. EAT SHIT YOU INDEPENDIST BASTARDS! (For the record I've been exaggerating my radicalism for LARPing purposes on this thread since the very begining because it's fun don't worry I don't actually like people getting sick, but I do take some kinda pleasure on seeing catalonian stocks plummet. You'd understand it if you knew how pushy they are about their horrid globalist agenda. They're basically like the spanish version of California, but even louder.)

If you don't actively pray to the sun to plasma beam Barcelona off the continent every day of your life then there's no way they could be "Cali but louder."

If you don't actively pray to the sun to plasma beam Barcelona off the continent every day of your life then there's no way they could be "Cali but louder."
Ah, funny you'd mention that, us spaniards haven't been doing much praying about this… We've been a lot more proactive than that about their demise. Time for another of my autistic rants!
In the very begining of time... I mean spain. Castille and Aragon joined forces to create a new kingdom, Catalonia was a duchy in aragon which had been trying to backstab the aragonian king and take control, and so, as the spanish monarchy was established, they tried to take over spain while they were at it. Then the hasburgs got involved and the catalonians realized they would NEVER reign over spain. And that's exactly when they decided they wanted out.

*Sigh* you can see where this is going. For literal centuries catalonia has basically joined every single fucking EUROPEAN anti-spanish war they could. And I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE, they just don't give a shit, thankfully after the muslims ravaged Barcelona they decided that was a bit too low (Which funnily enough puts them above WW1 Germany on the sanity scale. Seriously who the fuck thinks the OTTOMANS could be a good ally what the fuck is wrong with those krauts?!) So they only allied with europeans, mostly french, but damn were they persistent. And every fucking time spain just kept pummeling them in the face every chance it got. Funnily enough their smaller northern neighbor Andorra actually managed to get independence by pure mistake just by not pissing anyone off until suddently they had no clear line of succession so you might think that'd have taught them how they were fucking up but then the civil war happened.

Oh boy the civil war happened. So republicans (which at the time were mostly democrats but comunism was on the rise after every fucking european democracy decided to fuck spain over and only the soviets actually dropped by to help) and nationalists (a mix of fallangists, monarchists, the military junta who honestly probably didn't give a crap so long as they got to shoot the commies and stomp on those decentralization clauses the republic had brought, and some religious crusaders that were pissed off about aforementioned commies burning some churches, can't blame them honestly, hell before the nationalists rebelled the republicans had plans against the commies after having smashed a rebelión by them a few years prior, but you fucking idiots had to go and start the war too soon now didn't you.) started fucking shooting each other. And it was generally a fuckup on all fronts, but the nationalists somehow managed to pull together and (after some purges here and there) stay united enough not to cause a 3 way conflict.

The republicans though? Oh fuck the republicans. In HoI4 the republican side breaks in 2 typically. In real life it was more like 7 or 8 subsections, they really, really did not manage to stay united for a single second. BUT. Let's actually get through the major sides and how they turned out. So first we got the democrats, then the commies, then the stalinists (different from the commies in that the first wanted to be independent after the war while the second literally were generals sent by Stalin to take control of spain using the war as an excuse and as such you can imagine who they were supporting) and the anarchists. The democrats started in control, the anarchists are the important one here: you see, the anarchists were catalonians who after seeing the republic weakened decided to try to become the "council of aragon" to use the name of the old monarchy as an excuse to become independent (the rest of aragon couldn't object to being included as they were currently being controlled by the nationalists who didn't much care about what name their enemies took) and so the democrats took one look at those plans and said "fuck that" and shot those bastards, took control of their armies, and imprisoned what was left. Sadly for them this alongside the negative by france and britain to actually do something about fascism before Hitler declares war on them resulted in the commies taking control from the democrats and sending them to prison, and then the commies kept the democrats in prison and sent the anarchists into actual death camps because they knew better than to risk those fuckers surviving the war. And then after the republic was damaged beyond repair the stalinists finally took control and sent the commies to the front lines as meatshields. So then the stalinists had to admit the war was lost, Stalin called them back, and so the stalinists took the democrats out of prison to make sure they could negotiate a surrender than would let them get out using the democrats and their relationship with france and britain as an excuse. France and britain decided to oblige mostly because they realized "OH YEAH FASCISM WAS ACTUALLY A DANGEROUS THING" and were hoping to use what was left of the republic as forces in exile. This actually worked btw for some fucking reason the republicans decided to join them even though they did not start helping spain until way past the point of no return and even then did barely anything of note. Fucking hell we really are always getting used. But back on track, you might think finally the catalonians would catch a break. Well no. The last act of the stalinists before leaving spain was to grab all the nationalist prisoners they had, give each a rifle and a magazine, and send them against the anarchists as a last gift. I'm not kidding btw even imprisoned those fuckers had managed to break through and cause enough issues (because for some fucking reason every time they escaped they decided to use terrorism against the commies instead of literally anything that doesn't call attention to themselves like that) so they hated the bastards so much their last act in power was to declare a fucking purge on the bastards because if there is one single fucking thing EVERYONE in the civil war agreed on, was Catalonia just shouldn't survive it.

So you might think after THAT those fuckers would stay dead. But no. Much like roaches, and another group of globalist, money-obsessed, incredibly discriminatory subhumans you can't name without getting demonetized, those bastards just keep coming back! How? Well let me tell ya. During franco's time the catalonians got the same treatment they had before, which is to say KILL IT WITH FUCKING FIRE (well, lead actually, but you know what I mean), but sadly apparently some of those fuckers found a way to escape to france. Now, france originally reacted to "the defense council of aragon, which doesn't actually include the duchy of aragon" with the same disgust as everyone else when they tried to join them to escape, well, everyone. But those bastards hid, and in france they found Juan Carlos I. The bastard that would one day become king of spain (yes spain is ruled by the french, yes in more ways than one… fucking baguettes.) And this idiot had no fucking clue what went down until now, so when they courted him, added him to their little corrupt business, and got him some dough he was quite happy about them. And so when he became king he brought them back to spain, which is THE biggest reason to hate the bastard, which is saying something taking into account that he is in fact french! Anyway, now you'd think they'd be happy now that they got the king as an ally. But no. You see, the king was so happy about them he even married one of his daughters to one of the bastards, but said bastard (Urdangarin) was so fucking greedy he thought being part of the spanish crown made him invincible (of course he did, he was Catalonian after all) and this recklessness made it so a lot of the corrupt bullshit the monarchy and the catalonians were doing on the back was discovered. Now, until this point the catalonians had always pulled the "independence" card to gain favors, but were never serious about it, but when everyone saw their shit, and started making sure they couldn't actually do it, even getting europe involved, the shitflinging between the monarchy and the catalonians started, as they blamed each other, and so now they've gone back to actively wanting an out because we don't let them fuck with us anymore and we're actually checking this time. So yeah I'd say we've done a lot more than praying to end this fucking plague. But it just won't end. They just keep existing somehow no matter how many of them you shoot! It's like the fucking orks but significantly slimier!

(EDIT: in case you wonder about how they are so similar to the aforementioned group of money hungry extremely discriminatory globalist bastards… Would it surprise you to know before the inquisition "converted" them Catalonia was over 90% jewish and even today they have close political ties to Israel? Yeah I thought that'd explain a thing or two.)

3 more deaths in Italy

Three more people have been confirmed dead in Italy as the coronavirus continues to spread across Europe.

Angelo Borelli, the chief of Italy's Civil Protection agency, said the number of virus cases in the country increased 45% in the last day and there now have been 10 deaths.

Mr Borrelli told reporters the three dead had all been in their 80s and came from Lombardy, the worst impacted region.

He added that the number of confirmed cases in Italy had risen to 322, the vast majority of them in the north of the country.

It came after Switzerland, Austria and Croatia confirmed their first cases of the virus in their countries on Tuesday.

The cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, involved people who had recently travelled from virus-hit parts of neighbouring Italy.

Supposedly Chinese firearms are banned from the US because the Chinese tried to sell APCs, missiles and machine guns to a criminal gang in the US.
Foreign weapons including Norinico and H&K were banned in part to "protect" the legacy U.S. gun industry. The legacy (fudd) gun companies constantly REEE to Reagan and later Bush senior to save them so the bans happened.

I guess now is the time that if you have relatives who have pre-existing conditions and in the 75+ range you'd best tell them to get their affairs in order just in case. 🤔

With the seventh coronavirus death in Italy’s Lombardy region confirmed earlier on Monday, residents of the area, driven by fear of the rapidly spreading COVID-19, rushed to stock up on essential goods. Stripped store shelves provided fertile ground for tensions to escalate into violence and brawls, as evidenced by this footage.

why won't anyone think of the poor global corporations!?

Oh for the fuck sake, how this shitty world would be better, when it wouldn't be going all about money...
Just make me wonder how this would work in world without greedy global mega-corporations, but instead lot of local (at most countrywide) smaller ones runned by local people.

Edit.

...Or either not pumping all the money into military. War is greatest business of all time, I mean for weapon manufacturers etc., one thing that horryfies me is that some are in private hands, they could supply both sides fighting, making hellalotof money.
Plus other evil plans how to get more money$$$ at lowest possible cost (i count slavery or worse).

I bet we would be lightyears ahead from shithole we created to present day.

I know that people have said this before, but I'm going to say it now to remind everyone. DO NOT FUCKING WAIT

If you're in an unaffected country stock up on food now. Boxes of rice, canned foods, can opener in case you don't have one, etc. Make sure it's enough to last several weeks to a few months. Because the store shelves are going to be dry for a while. Even if things go the way of the optimists which is highly unlikely, you've still got choices of food for a few months.

(Pics related) Six to twelve weeks worth of food per person should be fine. If you wait until the virus hits your area you're going to be shit out of luck.

Taking in account there is a lag factor, not an expert, but it doesn't look good.

From 10 to 11 now.

If Italy continues to give out real numbers we might finally see what's really going on with this virus... I'm sorry for them to be the reality check / test case for the rest of us.. They can thank China and the Who for being so honest that no one took the right precautions / anticipative measures.
