Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

If you have most of your food together, consider boullion cubes and spices/herbs. It gives you more things to work with to keep the basics from getting boring. Instead of plain rice, add basil, boullion and some fried onion or onion powder, you have pilaf, etc. Shit, I just stocked up on salt and pepper. Can't eat a potato without it...

So I'm starting to prep this week. I've got a feeling in my bones. Questions:

1) How much water do I need for 2-4 people?

2) What are the best non-perishable food items that will last for years that are easily available?

For meds, I'm just going to buy a ton of NSAIDs, Lidocaine and such. Basic antibiotics.
This was posted earlier in the thread but I'll repost it.
I might not like mormons but I won't turn down good information like this.
Also buy some daily vitamin supplements.

I pity most europeans for their government are still in the dumbfounded realization phase when we all learnt how shit this virus is since january 22 / 23...

Their media are in the state of "maybe globalisation was a mistake and we should have kept some local factories, local means of production, etc" when the people trying to warn how serious it was since end of january were treated as conspiracy theorist too, and now that there is no more China wallet or financial façade to protect, even the french / spanish and belgian usual television / rich people in TV meetings start to worry and kind of panic, they are all fucking incompetent and unskilled, unprepared, and dumbfounded about the speed of the spread of infections. They finally start to let the truth slip and invite medical / virologist etc experts on television explain how bad it is lol.

This is it, lads, even normies are slowly realising their government are sometimes even less competent than the average dumb citizen to deal with anything. Fourth turning in full effect in 3, 2, 1... Panic !

Some french TV spokeperson are even repeating some of the points we all knew about the virus a full month ago and politicians / party members on air seem to just not believing it's happening. What a day !

This is floating around on Facebook :story: At a supermarket (Hofer aka Aldi) in Innsbruck/Austria.

Starting my prep work tomorrow, in the uk the media except the Sun are massively downplaying it. It’s going to hit large uk populations brutally like London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.

It’s going to be interesting once it settles the kickback China will receive the UN are going to brutalise them and factories will move to other Asian counties. China censored this shit and they need to pay

Here's an important survival tip: Go hungry. You don't need three squares a day to survive, especially if you're just holed up in your house and barely moving. Don't blow through a can of food just because you're hungry, ration that shit and stretch it out. If you're actually doing a Zompocalypse roleplay and running around in the woods building a log cabin, yeah, you'll need lots of calories, but if you're just putting duct tape on your front door and shitposting here, you only need a bare minimum caloric intake to keep your body going.

So, serious question here. At what point do you quit your job?

If you're lucky you don't have to - they will just stop paying you:

"Austrian Airlines sends employees home because of the coronavirus. Because two of the twelve long-haul jets are on the ground due to the stop of China flights, around 150 to 200 employees have no work. They are offered unpaid vacation, blocked part-time or educational leave, AUA boss Alexis von Hoensbroech told APA on Tuesday evening. AUA, like the entire Lufthansa Group, is responding to the crisis.

"At the moment it is not at all clear how it will develop and if and when it will calm down," said Hoensbroech. Therefore one should try to keep the effects as small as possible. The manager did not give any figures on costs and sales losses. Due to the weaker winter season, the economic effects are "not quite as bad as if it would affect us in summer".

Is it interesting that we have been deducing the situation well in advance. If we continue our data mining and our deductive reasoning we should be fine. If you are worried about the situation getting worse I suggest looking on my past postings on what to get as well as several other people saying similar things on what you should possibly do.

But you can ALREADY see that you really can NOT trust the government to give you the up to date information to deal with this... now on going crisis that should have never happen.

One of the things that I am upgrading is an emergency radio. Nothing fancy around the $30 range. As far as the other things such as food and firearms already have that covered. The reason is that I was taught by depression era people how to do without. So Certain things like canning and having bulk/can food on hand are normal for me. I've been doing this for 35 years, eating good meals at home and brown bagging it to work.

It was a way to save many by cooking yourself instead of going out and eating all of the time. Have a first aid kit and plenty of meds, especially pain killers.

I think now it is a good time to calmly start stocking up on things and again use your common sense when you buy. If this blows over and you did use your common sense you did not waste your money on excessive and needless buying of material. So don't do Full on REEEEtard and you will be fine.

So, serious question here. At what point do you quit your job?

(Edit: assuming you already have 6 months living expenses)

Unless the Virus Apocalypse comes knocking on your doorstep you don't. Find out what is going on with your job. People do talk you know.

So with the numbers of the last few days, we are at the point where we are going to find out just how badly China was covering things up. This shit is everywhere and now firmly in the wild.

It's looking particularly dire right now.

I honestly hope that this spurs long term change. The world wide community let an authoratative socialist dictatorship become the worlds factory. This entire event and the fallout from it needs to be remembered.

I've stored a few posts by a user named @Jet Fuel Johnny that will probably answer most of your questions. Forgive me for not linking them directly, I didn't think to save the URL. I simply saved the text for printing purposes. But I can still give you that.

Remember, boys and girls, rice and beans must be stored in a cool dry area, if you can, vacuum seal your bags after dividing into "meal packs", buy dehydrated fruit and the like, canned goods, and if you can afford it, MRE's for the people who will have to do high energy tasks in case of an emergency. Those "disaster buckets" are pretty popular, but I don't trust anyone to make my kit for me. If you want to make your own, buy buckets and lids and pack your own with an inventory list taped to the top.

Plastic sheeting for the windows doesn't hurt, as well as plastic sheeting with a zipper for the doors if you're feeling extra worried (have small infants and the elderly) about things.

I know that the news makes it sound like prepared people are all crazy end of times people, but that isn't true. During the wild fires in Oregon I was able to donate supplies (rotating out my stock) and was prepared if the fire departments lost control of the fires and it threatened my home.

Go by the old Cold War standard: 30 days of food for 1.5X the amount of people in your house. First aid kits, including burn treatment. Enough gauze to change the dressings on injuries for 30 days. Water for 30 days for 1.5X the amount of people in your house. Plastic sheeting. (If you're particularly morbid, body bags for 3X the amount of people in your house). Preventative medical supplies. Hatchets, axes, crowbars, shovels, pickaxes, and chainsaw if you can afford it with parts to rebuild 2 from scratch for rescue efforts or road clearing. Flares (ground and air) and if you can swing it, smoke grenades. Wind up radio. CB radio. Solar panel if you can afford it. Walkie-Talkies for 1.5X the amount of people in your family. Batteries batteries batteries. Rechargable batteries and solar panel. 2-4 vehicle 12V batteries with minimum 500 cold cranking amps. Maps of the surrounding area, topographical and aerial if you can swing it. 2 5-gallon cans of non-ethanol gasoline. If you can't get non-ethanol pour the gas from the cans in your tank on the first of each month and refill them. One case of oil per vehicle. Half case of tranny fluid and power steering fluid per vehicle. Anti-freeze. Enough to restock each vehicle 2X. Extra tires and rims for each vehicle to replace 2X. VEHICLE FILTERS. HVAC filters (x3). Firestarter sticks & 20 of those "4 hour chemical logs". Space blankets. Wal-Mart $30 comfortors (2X family members). Air mattresses. Canvas sheeting (if you can). Vicks. Vaseline. KY-Jelly. Sunburn gel w/ lidocaine. Snow-chains for vehicles (even if you're in the south, you may have evacuated north during the winter. Insect repellant (There's a lot of different types, I'd recommend getting the good stuff). Water purification tablets. Come-along rated at 1.5X weight of heaviest vehicle fully loaded and fueled, 200 feet of cable. Winch if you have a truck, combine it with brushguard. If you hvave the garage, basement, or outbuilding storage space, I suggest 2x4's, 4x4's, plywood as well as nails, hammers, screws, hand-saws along with a roll of barbed wire. Yellow "Danger" tape. Cans of black and red spraypaint. Fuses (vehicle and home). Extra socks and underwear. TAMPONS AND PADS in bulk. Towels. A couple boxes of those red rags. Cravats. Coloring books, spiral notebooks, crayons, markers, story books to keep kids busy. Classics and other books for adults during downtime (lots of people forget that part). Sharpies and the big magic markers in multiple colors but half of your markers should be standard black. Baby formulae even if you don't have a baby (6-12 cans should do it) as there's uses for it in a pinch for people with abdominal or GI injuries. Pink tummy goo, a half case, you'll be surprised how quick someone will start having stomach issues. Laxatives too. A couple boxes of diapers from premie to 2 year old, adult diapers if you're feeling up to it (these have a LOT of uses beyond you're caring for an elderly person, such as excursion members being able to wear them while out for 5 or more hours).

I shouldn't have to say this but: Anti-bacterial soap and spray. BODY SOAP (unscented). Deodorant. Shampoo. Bleach (10 bottles should do it). Laundry detergent (powder and liquid). Dryer sheets (these have uses beyond the dryer). Get everything unscented if you can, you don't want the scent overriding one of your primary senses that your brain uses for warning you of dangers.

Make sure that everyone in their family knows their job. Make sure everyone knows basic first aid. Make sure you have rally points and fallback points in case of separation during evacuation. Make sure you have bug-out paperwork with a copy of your birth certificate, SSN, and ID as well as any certifications you have. Make sure you have a bug-out bag that everyone can grab on the way out. Even toddlers love learning to grab their "buggybag" on the way out.

I shouldn't have to say this, but I will: Avoid fallen power lines, any smell of natural gas means GTFO, avoid water with iridescent patterning or that is completely free of bugs or algae (something in the water is killing it and it will kill you), drive slow around corners when evacuating after earth-quake or volcano (Speed kills). Do not enter any water that completely covers a road unless you have someone safety-lined in front of the vehicle. Avoid town and cities unless there is no other route choice. Follow Civil Defense instructions you get on your radio.

Make a packing list and diagram for your vehicles. Learn what you can pack in the car and what you can't. Pack it in INVERSE order of need, so that the stuff you'll need the most (blankets, first aid kits, fluids) are on top and stuff you'll need later (camping gear, clothing changes) are on the bottom.

Learn to change the fluids and filters in your vehicles as well as change your tires.

Learn how to make bread and noodles. If you're feeling particularly froggy, learn how to make bread with an open fire. Learn how to make an oven from easily obtainable supplies in a disaster. Learn how to tell expired/bad food/cans, food poisoning is a major risk after a disaster.

Learn how to use every tool you buy. Too many idiots think using an axe or hatchet just involves swinging. Those are the guys who are in the ER or dead on the ground with huge gashes to their legs or missing fingers.

Keep an inventory list with expiration dates and the date of the last time you inspected everything. Rotate stock often as necessary. Try to budget at least $50-$100 for each month and build your stocks over time. You can build it up pretty quickly with good budgeting and a plan. Remember to keep your stocks off the floor and at least 2" away from every wall. Use treated lumber shelves if possible, the lumber has additional uses.

The life you save may be your own.

Just gonna toss this out there for all of you who are late to the party.

The best thing you can do for your health is:

  • Get plenty of rest
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Smile at yourself 3X a day in the mirror
  • Have relaxing books to read
  • Eat healthy and right
  • Exercise
  • Keep a full tank of gas in your car
  • Keep tires and brakes maintained

If Corona-Chan looks like she's going to start dancing and we'll all end up having to fuck the midget, I'll post a lot more again.

If you're a poorfag and wondering how you'll survive if it goes quarantine, then here's the bare minimum you should get.

We'll even go under the theory that all the masks were bought up by pollution goblins to send back to Pollutionland or bought by assholes selling them for $200 each on eBay.

  • 1.5 pounds of rice per person for 30 days
  • 1.5 pounds of potatoes per person for 30 days
  • 5 liters of water per person per day
  • 1 lb of butter (not margarine) per person per week
  • 1 can of tuna in oil per person per day
  • First aid kit
  • Mechanical can-opener (If you can find them, buy a P38 for each family member)
  • Wind Up Radio
  • Wind Up Flashlight
  • Masks
  • Gloves

Here are your optional but still good stuff to get for your disaster prep stash

  • Bleach
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Twelve 6-sided dice
  • 2 decks of cards per person
  • 1 Uno deck per person
  • Red mechanic rags
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Unscented soap
  • Baby wipes
  • Paper towels in bulk (1 roll per person for every 2 days)
  • Toilet Paper (1 roll per person per 2 days)
  • Anti-bacterial soap (1 bar per person per week)
  • Liquid anti-bacterial (1 oz. per person per day)
  • Plastic sheeting
  • Duct tape
  • Garbage bags
  • Hiking/Combat boots (I prefer combat boots)
  • Coloring and activity books for children
  • Crayons, chalk, and markers

That's pretty much in order of importance. You should ALWAYS have this stuff in the basement/attic/closets. Food and water estimates are over bare minimums to account for high energy activities as well as water consumption for feverish/injured/children. If you have children in your bugout/survival group, remember that keeping them occupied is keeping them out of trouble. Children as young as three enjoy taking part in it and can quickly and easily be taught to hold tight to their bugout bag (buggybag) especially if you have a strap for their favorite stuffie on it. A stuffy for the child is vitally important, as it provides a confidant for the child to work through their anxiety and fears.

Your vehicle is your lifeline for any disaster preparedness. Here's some Jet Fuel advice:

  • Keep it maintained
  • Get a Chilton's Manual for it
  • Get a basic toolkit
  • Extra fuses
  • Extra air and fluid filters
  • Extra headlights/brakelights
  • Full tank
  • Brakes and tires maintained
  • Oil and other fluids in storage
  • Ensure routes are passable by your vehicle
  • Make a loading plan for the car/truck. Most important stuff goes in last so it's on top and immediately accessible
  • USB charging cords/plugs
  • 5 gallons of fuel, switch out each month due to ethanol degradation

Again, here are the links I would suggest that are bare minimum to read. Learn it, live it, love it.

If you're wondering why I keep linking US Army manuals and Boy Scout manuals instead of that shiny new Dr. Jerkoff's First Aid Book and Captain Dicksuck's Manual of Survival, it's simple: These books/manuals have been through decades of refinement and peer review and practical review as well as use by millions of people, all for the lowest common denominator in intelligence, experience, and common sense. I don't know Professor Cockmongler or his friend Major Fuckwit, so I don't know how good his #1 Amazon Best Seller really is. The last survival book I bought was full of information that would get you fucking killed.

Here is some preparedness study/research for you:

  • Find out emergency/disaster evacuation routes from your city/town
  • Find the local FEMA/Civil Defense page and instructions
  • Designate fallback/rally points with family members and friends
  • Select disaster "roles" for family/roommates/friends
  • Learn where the fallout shelters are
  • Study First Aid, its' useful outside of Corona-Chan's dance
  • Purchase the above manuals off of eBay/Amazon
  • Purchase Chilton's Manual and read it for each vehicle

If you can, have a survival plan with friends and family, have at least one buddy. The best survival runs on the buddy-system.

If this looks worse than it does now, I'll post more data for you later including "Building a 'buggybag' for newbs".

Remember: This has a greater chance of falling on its face than it does going Captain Tripps, but it's a good practical exercise for preparing for a localized disaster.

Stay upbeat, stay alert, stay alive.

EDIT: Added another survival manual, some additional data

Some cooking tips.

And this post is excellent but really really long. You really can't go wrong by saving these and printing them. All of the URLs should still work. Also as I learned from experience it did not take very long at all to print, punch, and bind most of the survival and aid manuals you'll find around this topic. It makes for a pretty relaxing afternoon. There are also some other users that have had some very good posts, @Otterly and @AltisticRight come to mind. Definitely search through some of their posts if you have the time as they seem to offer good medical and regional perspectives, respectively. Also the construction kiwis.

Stay safe everyone! :semperfidelis:

But guys remember Winnie the Pooh wants us to believe the virus was not man made has evolved multiple times. Causes infertility, explodes your lungs and could come back. The downplay from the UK media and the NHS has been disgusting. But yeah we have it in the wild now and true numbers are coming out, what’s bad is we are getting them hour by hour. Italy sadly is going to be a testing ground as is South Korea.

This is why I don't travel much.

North Rhine-Westphalia has very high population density. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm not panicking yet, but the way the politicians deal with this is kind of worrisome. I don't understand why travel restrictions and quarantine for people who return from infected regions are apparently not necessary? Why do they tell people who return from infected regions to self-isolate only if they have symptoms if apparently this can spread before symptoms show? And just because you tell people to self-isolate doesn't mean they will. Germans will go to work even if they're half-dead.

None of these things is 100% confirmed, though. Remember, you need replication for confirmation.

That doesn't mean it's not man-made. It totally is. And all our govs. are acting stupid.

I have started gathering canned food and bottled water. I have 50 lbs of rice. Other things I am stashing include plastic grocery bags and baggies. I am a camper so I already own a lot of what I might need. I have enough non-perishable food and vitamins to last my family 45 days. I stocked up on propane and cleaned my stove (1980's Coleman that is amazing). My kid can convert engines to ethanol or methanol so we are in a pretty good position. If it gets really bad we will commandeer a summer camp up north.

I seriously hope that come summer I am laughing at my own paranoia and looking for ways to integrate canned fruit and veg into our daily diets.

Dont forget to stock up on alchohol for the crippling alcoholic in you. You dont want to be caught without booze after 5 days of doing nothing like that one cruise ship. It's the Florida man way. things with higher alcohol content are good disinfectants for cuts if you're going that far

I personally am just gonna roll overand die, prepping is too hard.

Can't tell how many of you are being serious or are losing your goddamn minds.
Well, about two months ago, we were all getting ready for Christmas and a New Year and now, we're all fearing for our lives because we have stupid governments that follow the advice of one stupid organization that stopped being useful 50 years ago. I mean, I might not be fearing for MY life or my husband's as we're somehow healthy adults, but we live with children and old people and they're highly vulnerable. LIke I said, we do no favor to anyone if we panic, but I think we should start moving from "lol" to "wary". Double that up here in the third world.

Do not involve your family on this larping seriously dude...
