VCR has expressed regret over aspects of their transition before.

I would attribute a large portion of their mellowing out on the fact that they are now on medications for their mental illnesses, which they were not when they were younger, more than I would on any contentment regarding their transition. Though I don't at all reject the idea that may help, I would definitely attribute it more to actually being medicated.

They're also under less stress now: They dropped out of college and moved back in with their family, alleviating both social and monetary stress, granted they're back in school now to be a pharmacist, but they're older now and again, more medicated now, which likely makes it easier to handle the stress of schooling, though I'll also note they've been out of class for a while dealing with health issues again. Living with their parents again negates monetary stress re: rent and food. And people who are less stressed tend to be less aggressive.

That said I agree, I don't care why they've chilled out, even if it's fetish related, so long as no one is being hurt.

tl;dr Their transition may be helping a little, but I would say they've chilled out more due to medication and less life stress.

i can agree that it's more than likely a combination of things contributing to their chilling out, medication being a prominent one. i'd also note it's possible they regret parts of their transition but not all of it. going over the comments to the "boohoo fat fetishization" drawing someone else linked, while it's possible some of it could be denial, they speak positively about themselves and their body and i don't really have much reason to doubt them (not having seen the regret you mention they expressed).

It's definitely easy to miss exactly how weird VCR is if you only see their art once or twice in passing, hence why there are probably more than a few people in this thread who used to be fans of theirs. They had a period of semi-normalcy, or at least normalcy for a meat obsessed furry vegetarian, for a while before going off the deep end, and then sort of regaining some sort of almost-normalcy again now with meds and maturity.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if it would be possible to pinpoint where they started getting really over the top angry and weird to see if it matches up with the age things like BPD and other mental illnesses tend to rear their heads full force.

have people in this thread already discussed how weird her obession with meat is (only read the first page and the few last ones)? my friends who are vegetarian or vegan are rather vocal how gross they find meat, albeit it sounds a bit performative and dishonest sometimes, but still they avoid any kind of depictions of meat, let alone gore.

edit: oh and I think I've said that before but I have a hard time believing that she's really colorblind. Women are usually carriers of colorblindness (the gene for that is on the x chromosome) but rarely express it themselves bc you have to be really unfortunate or some kind of incest baby to end up with two broken x chromosomes

this isn't so weird to me. i can fully enjoy gory/graphic media myself, even though real gore makes me squirm.

could be they just don't enjoy the taste/texture of meat even though visually they find it appealing. i can find a tomato pretty even though i don't like its flavor.

I actually agree with this. A lot of meat, especially the kind most people tend to draw in images oriented around it, is very red. The human brain is very attracted to that colour, it's why red is a common advertising colour, especially for food. It's very eye catching and interesting to our dumb primate brains because it's the colour of blood, meat, and a lot of ripe fruit. Humans have a very visceral reaction to red. So do a lot of species who can see a wide range colours.

You definitely have a point there. It’s like playing two truths and a lie, except there’s a lot of lies and they won’t ever tell you the truth. So how could our vegetarian friend here possibly like meat, if they’re color blind...? The uh... texture?

The obvious answer is: They're lying, it's always been very obvious, they haven't brought up their colour blindness literally for years, they're hoping it will be forgotten and swept under a rug.

The alternate answer: It could be a texture or scent thing, red meat has a smell that makes many people excited in a hunger way, and given the penchant for vore, I wouldn't be surprised if those wires are crossed in their head thus leading to the hunger excitement being crossed over with a sexual excitement.

But the actual answer is they aren't colour blind. There's plenty of proof of this. Their dilophosaur sona is decidedly not colour blindness friendly. I believe they have BPD, and lying or pathological lying is a common (though not always present) symptom of BPD. I do think they should own up to the fact they've lied, but it would lose them wokeness points and no one is calling them out on it, so they never will.

Why such a mundane thing though? Like, some lies are understandable if it gets them attention or asspats, but colour blindness isn't something that disables ppl in any way or makes ppl oppressed. Were they just hoping it makes them more ~unique~? or did they expect ppl to give them praise for continuing their passion in art even though their vision problem could cause issues for them?

You're able to be sexually attracted to things that disgust/scare you in real life, this is a well known phenomenon in paraphilia psychology. It's also well known that people sexualize both trauma / things that stress them out so vcr sexualizing their flaws to such an extreme degree is not even remotely surprising considering they take to criticism like oil takes to water. Having a dissonance of things that you enjoy in fantasy but don't condone in real life is something we all do -- take movies for example, you can enjoy a violence-filled movie but not immediately be okay with real life violence or even remotely numbed to it. The human mind is complex enough to juggle multiple levels of fiction and reality, even people as un-selfaware as vcr. And my christ is VCR un-selfaware because they are an absolute hypocrite when it comes to kinks, pretending their sphinxes isn't just ferals with extra steps, but whatever. That's their issue, and plenty of people see them as a hypocrit for how they treat people for it within the furry fandom.

As for them chilling out, yeah. Less stress, meds, but also they're getting older. I've noticed this same trend with batshit teens/early20's cows. They will be batshit in their late teens / early 20s but as they near their mid/late 20s they tend to chill the fuck out more often than not. I'd assume it has something to do with the fact that's around the time the brain stops developing? It seems consistent enough for to be more than just a coincidence, in my experience.
