Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It's important to remember if you do prep, keep in mind what you're prepping for.

I will never prepare for some societal downfall because it's a hopeless endeavor. It wouldn't hurt to prep for a 20 - 30 day quarantine in which staple foods are either not available or gone.

Protein powder, rice, beans, gloves, bleach. You can prep for under $60. Maybe some kind of mask (only so you can go go shopping if they impose a masks only rule, effectiveness doesn't matter no one fucking cares).

Getting the virus is a dice roll, so don't bother doing more than the basics.
my hope is that once shit goes down we get maybe a week or two of having to sustain ourselves and after that the government steps in and supplies food for the people. otherwise it will be total chaos and crime will be completely rampant.

>Croatia confirmed

If this spreads to the rest of west Balkan's it's fucking over. Our health system is worse than that of Zimbabwe
The one Chinese patient they had in Sarajevo was tested negative and Corona-chan hasn't blessed B and H yet.

Good thing my late grandpa was prepping like crazy during the war and left some very useful stuff behind he got from the VRS. If I ever get pozzed by Corona-chan and her gift mutates and causes me to literally thirst for blood, I'll get to play both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Code Vein IRL. What a time to be alive!

My dads coming down with some sorta illness right now, afaik its just some regular cold due to the recent weather and our location ect,but this the first time i ever seen him physically ill ,our local city has a sizable chink student(thus regular traveling) population too 🤨

So I'm considering starting to stock up nonperishables. ATM I'm living with parents and we already have water. I've heard rice and beans already. Does anybody have any other non-MRE apocalypse food reccomendations?
Anything you can throw in the freezer, off the top of my head supermarkets tend to stock cheap bags of frozen chicken drums/burgers ect.Usually dirt cheap too

Have said this before and will say it again. DON'T TAKE COUNSEL OF YOUR FEARS.

Step back. Now, where are the vast majority of cases located? China. And likewise where have the vast majority of deaths occurred? China.

In my opinion, the average non-Chinese person in decent health has little to fear. Be prudent, use common sense. Should you learn of cases in your area make sure you minimize being out in crowds of people. Wash your hands frequently. Keep an eye on the elderly, those already ill from other causes, and the babies. They should stay home unless going out on business, such as a medical appointment.

If you are a church-goer stay home if there are cases in your area. Good place to catch or spread the virus. God will understand.

Can see movie theaters being closed and sporting events postponed/cancelled. Can see operations cut back/shut down at certain businesses. Can also see certain businesses/functions, such as food processing, power production, water plants, trash collection, and likely others deemed "essential" for national needs. These functions will be staffed, one way or another.

Have already mentioned the advisability of purchasing certain electronic goods and diabetic supplies ASAP. If possible buy on line. Why go to the store and risk catching the virus, or having a problem with some frantic person in panic buying mode?

Our medical system is a quantum leap better than China's. We have numerous health departments, at city/county/state and the Federal level. Please note that nobody is being arrested for putting forth concerns.

One historical note. The Spanish Flu of 1918 killed a lot of people. But the vast majority of people on this planet either didn't contract it or contracted the flu and recovered. Same thing is going to happen here, to speak bluntly. Some will catch the virus. Some of those people will die, but most will recover. But most people aren't going to catch this virus. We as a world are working to find methods of treating the virus and developing a vaccine. This will end, hopefully sooner rather than later.

So I would say buy some extra supplies, get some extra medicines, but no need to go overboard. Use common sense, be prudent, listen to any info the health department provides. And don't take any fears or frustrations out on Asians. Not all Asians are Chinese. No, they DON'T all look the same. Maybe some of the Chinese you encounter have loved ones sick or dead. The virus came out of China. Believe it is man-made and got out of a biological warfare facility in Wuhan. If you really want to kick some asses, start with Xi and all his CCP lackeys that let this shit get out of hand there to save face. From what I have seen here, they knew pretty early on that something was happening. It's on them, nobody else.

But if we don't panic and are prepared how can we doom say for 430+ pages like a bunch of exceptional redditors instead of smart kiwis.

While I'm avoiding Chinese-owned restaurants simply because some of the people who work there might have visited home, or have associates who visited home, for the Chinese New Year, I don't blame Chinese for this. If anyone is responsible, it's the Chinese government that could have gotten a handle on outrageous hygiene practices; the trade of weird, random animals for meat; the unbelievable pollution in their country; and the lack of good medical facilities.

It's pretty amazing because the CCP has blown a ton of money of capital projects that will never pencil out. At least one high-speed rail line over there was so expensive, ridership will never make up for the expense. Meanwhile, building hospitals can also stimulate the economy. A populace in poor health, regardless if they're being hit with a pandemic, is a drag on the economy.

I get why India is a literal shitshow since it's a democracy, but what's autocratic China's excuse?

Corona-chan is probably Brazil now. They're still waiting for the confirmation of the second test.

For the USA: I can't imagine the USA going full ŕetard like senior china. Keeping water and power up and running or back online is one of the top priorities in natural disasters, one for keeping people healthy and pacified and one for keeping people informed and not panicking. The politicians here have some fear of people if just because they cant declare themselves god emperor/eternal whatever without some really pissed off American with guns coming at them yet, so they have to at least do something to keep being reelected (usually). That and even most politicans have some compassion for others, unlike China's complete "fuck you got mine." Generally, our lawmakers decide to listen to the CDC as well, and know what pest horrors could come without proper garbage disposal.

I'm down for most of the reasonable 30 days to 3 months prep here and hope all of you prepping for your families don't have to use any of your stock up. Whether you're living in a crowded area, a place that's hard to get medical care, or live in some shithole like Gary, IN, I get you and hope nothing comes down to the wire. I'm just :optimistic: and if not resigned to my fate as a college student with mandatory classes.

I somehow survived a year and a half of working at a busy pharmacy without contracting the flu or something else horrible, I'm putting my luck and my sanitation skills to the test again.

Say i wanted to talk to a distant family member located in one of the areas just confirmed for the virus what should i say? Im thinking something like "hows it been going with you, i heard there are a lot of cases of the virus near you?"
You should probably talk about literally anything else unless they bring it up.

So for the past couple of days my lungs hurt. I drank a bunch of Jack Daniels and now I feel fine.
Corona-chan really cant hold her liquor. All you preppers better have a few cases of cheap whisky on hand. At the very least you can drink yourself to death before your brain starts to melt from the fever.
(no seriously I thought I was going to die turns out I was just worrying over some sore muscles)

Okay I had a rare moment of morality and conciousness. I showed the twit your joking responses. He's still going. but I still said shit about n95 not working for Sars. Kind of hope who ever eventually gets it beats his ass for being stupid.
Getting n95 masks have become some what really hard to acquire for obvious reasons. The only reason why I was able to get mitts on 20 of them was bc Singapore had them ready and hasn't rationed them yet. P100 is some how easier to acquire. I think who ever is asking him to buy them from me hasn't did their homework. Point is who ever it is asking him has to be prepping for it in Mexico. There's no other logical reason because in the USA it's still pretty easy to get surgical grade masks. The speciality stores hasn't run out in my local area.
I did some googling corona Chan hasn't popped up in Mexico but I think it's only a matter of time in that regard. It would be a shitshow and boost trumps popularity ten fold.

Self-diagnosing and self-treating with antibiotics or any prescription drug is not clever. We have doctors and pharmacists for a reason - these subjects are complicated, generally require education you do not have and people acting wilfully naive like peasants in various third world shitholes and just self-diagnosing/self-dosing with the attitude of 'oh that drug there, I know that name' and gobbling down some without any real knowledge of what they're doing, appropriate dosage, side-effects, drug interactions, contraindications for pre-existing conditions or even if they actually have what they think they have is what leads to both antibiotic resistance and poor individual health outcomes. It's like buying meds online from India or elsewhere because they'e cheaper, you really have no idea what you're doing or what you're buying.

the whole reason china got to me such a major economic power in the world is because they use slave labor to create cheap shit and sell it across the globe. if they started treating their workers like real people and gave them a enjoyable life they would probably rethink whether they really want to work for pennies every day.
