Have said this before and will say it again. DON'T TAKE COUNSEL OF YOUR FEARS.
Step back. Now, where are the vast majority of cases located? China. And likewise where have the vast majority of deaths occurred? China.
In my opinion, the average non-Chinese person in decent health has little to fear. Be prudent, use common sense. Should you learn of cases in your area make sure you minimize being out in crowds of people. Wash your hands frequently. Keep an eye on the elderly, those already ill from other causes, and the babies. They should stay home unless going out on business, such as a medical appointment.
If you are a church-goer stay home if there are cases in your area. Good place to catch or spread the virus. God will understand.
Can see movie theaters being closed and sporting events postponed/cancelled. Can see operations cut back/shut down at certain businesses. Can also see certain businesses/functions, such as food processing, power production, water plants, trash collection, and likely others deemed "essential" for national needs. These functions will be staffed, one way or another.
Have already mentioned the advisability of purchasing certain electronic goods and diabetic supplies ASAP. If possible buy on line. Why go to the store and risk catching the virus, or having a problem with some frantic person in panic buying mode?
Our medical system is a quantum leap better than China's. We have numerous health departments, at city/county/state and the Federal level. Please note that nobody is being arrested for putting forth concerns.
One historical note. The Spanish Flu of 1918 killed a lot of people. But the vast majority of people on this planet either didn't contract it or contracted the flu and recovered. Same thing is going to happen here, to speak bluntly. Some will catch the virus. Some of those people will die, but most will recover. But most people aren't going to catch this virus. We as a world are working to find methods of treating the virus and developing a vaccine. This will end, hopefully sooner rather than later.
So I would say buy some extra supplies, get some extra medicines, but no need to go overboard. Use common sense, be prudent, listen to any info the health department provides. And don't take any fears or frustrations out on Asians. Not all Asians are Chinese. No, they DON'T all look the same. Maybe some of the Chinese you encounter have loved ones sick or dead. The virus came out of China. Believe it is man-made and got out of a biological warfare facility in Wuhan. If you really want to kick some asses, start with Xi and all his CCP lackeys that let this shit get out of hand there to save face. From what I have seen here, they knew pretty early on that something was happening. It's on them, nobody else.
