Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

So, wait. Dobson doesn't like Final Fantasy (series), but Super Mario RPG is just fine, despite it being pretty much the same kind of game as Final Fantasy (and a bunch of other games in that genre)?
Actually I think SMRPG is more closely related to Chrono Trigger than the Final Fantasy series. But in this case, yes SMRPG gets a pass due to it's setting, which is what he's agreeing/complaining about right now.

Now, it's probably more to do with him finding SMRPG having a plot less weird (or as he refers to it, complicated) than any given Final Fantasy title. But since it's setting he's referring to specifically I'll just stick with that. So, while the early FF titles did use medieval Europe as a base, that's been an exception and not the rule for a very long time. Most titles in the series have settings either similar to modern times, or are futuristic. VI did have castles in it. It also had trains, opera (which wasn't invented until almost the 1600's), apartment buildings, airships, mech walkers, and futuristic laboratories. It can't be nailed down to a specific setting because it's inspiration spans centuries of human advancement.

IV is much closer to what the initial complainer is bitching about, however Europe is not the sole setting either. The second town you go to is a Middle Eastern oasis. Not long after the party allies itself with Asian monks. Later they meet Tolkien-esque dwarfs deep underground, along with the surviving members of a ninja kingdom. The climatic battle against the final boss is is held in the depths of moon, against a member of an advanced alien civilization that built the spaceship that allowed travel to the moon. Said final boss also built a highly advanced mechanical golem powered by an equally advanced tower that stretches into the sky from the dwarf kingdom.

In short it depends on the skill of the writer to take the setting above and beyond "generic medieval Europe fantasy land". It's worth mentioning that The Legend of Zelda series also falls into this category, the early 2D games in particular, and especially the first game. The series didn't really start branching out into bringing in other cultures and locations until the 3D games.

True, though to be fair Chrono Trigger is a Squaresoft/Square Enix game, same company that made Final Fantasy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dobson is just pushing his followers to harass this guy off the site.

Most of that list kinda sucks, Dobson. Oh no, the Star Wars sequels that left fans heavily divided, a failing park, and a streaming service. Oh no!

Two of those things have been unmitigated disasters, the future of Disney+ streaming is still kinda shaky, and while a possibly the greatest cash cow ever, the MCU peaked with Endgame and is almost certainly going to be on the track of diminishing returns now.

Speaking as someone who really enjoyed the MCU, I always figured it’d be downhill after Endgame, minus a couple of films. So yeah, really there nothing to super look forward to on that list.

Basically, it's the ideal time to get rid of him instead of keeping him well past his expiration date like Eisner. It's harsh, but from a purely business stand point it makes sense. And I'm not gonna feel too sorry for a guy that's riding into the sunset with a giant Scrooge McDuck vault full of money.

Dobson isn't above selling out (but we already knew that):

Dobson reblogs something that belongs on the Tall Tales of Tumblr thread (of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen THE MOST):

Dobson's absolutely sure he's blocked over 200 "sock puppets" of That One Guy, y'all:
(I guess what he means, clumsily because he sucks at communicating, is he doesn't seek out That One Guy to talk to or approach? Or whatever, Dobson's dumb and lies a lot)

Seriously, though, Dobson, if blocking doesn't help, WHY EVEN BOTHER DOING IT? :stress:

"But muh Homophobia!" reblog/reply:

At this point I'd like to remind everybody that a lot of people (same people who'd consider Love, Simon unfamilyfriendly STILL don't like the Simpsons and consider IT familyunfriendly for reasons similar to this - Homer drinking and such but also Bart being an incorrigible jerk and the general dysfunction of the Simpsons family itself), so that one poster doesn't really have a leg to stand on.

Autistic "Superman is a Moses Allegory Not a Christ Allegory" sperging/reblogging (insert "WhyNotBoth.gif" here) and other spergy back-and-forths:

Do I need to remind these speds that Lex Luthor got mad at Superboy (Superman) and turned evil because of an accident that involved Superboy that caused Lex to lose all his hair? At least Drumpf got a hairpiece thing going instead. But yeah, everybody in the damn thread is goddamned autistic. Superman is probably best described as a "classical liberal" at least in the Early Years. Certainly not full IngSoc IdPol Justice. What passed for Liberal back in the day, would be considered "Conservative" today, but then, pigeonholing a fictional character's political alignments either way is just plain autistic.

Isn't Dobson a leftist? So how does it come he supports CEOs of billion bucks megacorps?

Dobson is only really left wing in a really vague sense, he has no real understanding of economic or social theory but his peers are left wing and he's theoretically pro-lgbt and pro-immigration so he's left wing in a lowest common denominator sort of way. Which means he'll often go against the grain because he might not understand how what he's saying contradicts left wing idea's.

Dobson thinks that when Corporations Get Woke, (before they go broke lol), that means they're down with the struggle and making the world a better place via "Muh Representashun!"

I think this is true. He's vaguely left, but not as left as he pretends to be. He doesn't really care about any of the current issues or politics of the day. He just traces his opinions from others who do care. But for all of his bitching he isn't going to work a phone bank for Bernie, or invite an immigrant or illegal alien or homeless veteran into his home. Frankly, even the people who he traces opinions from aren't going to do that, but Dobson is kind of worse because he's only tracing.
