In case you hadnt noticed, the US is not an authoritarian regime like China is. The President cannot force quarantine, and cant force everyone to do something like Xi can. The control of the disease falls to the CDC, the biological branch of the military, ece. What you are suggesting is different branches of the government impeding each other's authority, which is a major no-no in the USA. State governors COULD force quarantine, but good luck enforcing it without established cases, and even then it would be political suicide unless things get nasty real quick.

As for what it says about the government? Well, it says our government doesnt cover up nearly as much, or as severely, and the chinese government does, is nowhere near as bad at containing viruses, doesnt arrest reporters and doctors, and otherwise is a hell of a lot freer then most other places. After all, we are here freely debating the virus and criticizing the governments response without fear of death or arrest. At worse, we STILL dont have near the level of infection china does despite the governments cock ups.

As an aside, getting trigger happy over quarantine will do worse harm. If you start quarantining entire towns for 1 infection, every-time someone coofs, people are going to blatantly ignore it. Boy crying wolf. For all the criticism of how slow the US is reacting, so far the majority of coronavirus cases are ones we brought BACK from asia ourselves, with IIRC less then 10 total having been found in the wild, and so far no pandemic explosion like what was seen in italy.

All the way back in 2018, Trump established the "National Bio-Defense Strategy" which was specifically designed to improve the speed of action for any biological risk poised to affect U.S. Citizens, and immediately paired this with the National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM)-14, so a framework was being built for this sort of situation well before anyone had even heard of COVID-19.

Back on January 30th, before anyone was really paying much attention to this at all and most pundits and media outlets were just calling this nothing more than a flu, a unified task force (The "all men" thing) to coordinate all response efforts across the totality of government was assembled. This was in response to the initial reports from China, with the expectation that multiple agencies in the U.S. Government would need a more-unified command structure to effectively deal with this.

The task force is coordinated through the National Security council, and staffed with some of the Nation's foremost experts on infectious diseases. If you're curious about the roster, you can find that over here. On January 31st, he signed a Presidential Proclamation pursuant to
212(f) and 215(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, and 8 U.S.C. 1182(f), 1185(a), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, allowing his administration to temporarily suspend entry into the United States for people of foreign nationality. These travel restrictions were explicitly designed to target those most likely to pose a risk of transmitting COVID-19.

On January 31st, this same task force held a press conference (Transcript) , and H.H.S. Secretary Alex Azar declared a nationwide public health emergency. All foreign nationals--apart from U.S. citizens and permanent residents-- who traveled in China within the prior 14 days were denied entry into the United States. This temporary entry ban is still in effect today.

I don't know how long everyone's memory might be these days, but I distinctly remember that immediately following this ban and all of the proactive measures that were put into place, the media and the DNC (But I repeat myself) began penning articles suggesting that his response was too excessive or that he was manufacturing a crisis for political benefit. Now, these same people are trying to sprint up to the podium and claim that he "didn't do enough."

That the media is now claiming Trump at no point was doing anything but hacking budgets and firing people and ignoring this until the 11th hour is nothing short of embarrassing. They're the ones who didn't give a shit in the first place until they noticed they could use this to try and score some fear-laden political points.

LOS ANGELES - A Korean Air flight attendant tested positive for coronavirus after working on flights in and out of Los Angeles, according to reports from South Korean media.

The flight attendant worked flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, on Feb. 19 and 20, the reports stated.

The woman had also serviced a flight from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Seoul on Feb. 15, South Korea's Center for Disease Control said.

The Times of Israel reported that the flight attendant was in Israel before coming to L.A., where it's believed she spent time walking around Koreatown before boarding on a return flight to Incheon, South Korea.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is aware of the Times of Israel article and is investigating, but has yet to confirm these reports.


Korean Air did not confirm the reports, but has closed its operations center at Incheon Airport in order to disinfect the area. The airline is also allowing customers to change flights free of charge as the World Health Organization's declared "global emergency" continues to spread causing fear everywhere.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti assured residents that extensive precautions are being taken at the airport to help prevent the virus from spreading.

"We're disinfecting LAX every hour," Garcetti told reporters. "We're making sure that those points of entry and those places where we could see somebody come in and create a vector are secure as we can possibly make them, knowing you can never have 100% security.''

The news comes after a U.S. soldier stationed at Camp Carroll in South Korea tested positive for coronavirus. This marks the first time a U.S. service member has tested positive for the virus.

As coronavirus cases continue to grow around the globe, federal health experts warn that containment efforts at our nation's borders are becoming more difficult.

Health officials believe that the novel coronavirus can be transmitted most commonly through respiratory droplets in the air as well as close contact with an infected person or touching areas contaminated with the virus before washing. The digestive tract may also transmit the disease.

I will say that while it encourages doom cooming it is pretty fascinating how rapidly speds on a messageboard for coordinated autist mocking can get info on every single little flare up in the modern age. You'd think with this kind of tech totalitarian states would be more or less immune to epidemics, except they're also stupid so the tools are squandered on them.

It's interesting to think about the potential fallout of this....

If it comes out that this was a genetically enginnered disease: China is in deep fucking shit...

You would have an entire global community furious with them...

Their own populace feeling betrayed...

China economically/politically destabilized..

This would be a ripe situation for a coup within five years..

I could see China's leadership, potentionally, being completely dismantled...

An Iranian parliament spokesman on Wednesday announced that anyone found to be “spreading rumors” about the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak will be sentenced to one-to-three years in prison and flogging, Iran state news agency IRNA reported.

“Spreading fake news over coronavirus outbreak will people panic. It also will pave the ground for the country’s shutdown,” said Hassan Norouzi, spokesman for the parliament’s legal and judicial committee, in comments translated by the Tehran Times.


Norouzi said the prison sentence and flogging is based on “on the Islamic penal code,” and 24 people have been arrested already on suspicion of “spreading rumors” about the illness.

Iran has reported 139 cases of coronavirus infections throughout the country, with an epicenter in the city of Qom, a destination for Shi’ite Muslim religious pilgrims. Nineteen Iranians have died from the illness so far, and the country has the highest number of cases in the Middle East. While officials have recommended that citizens not visit Qom, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced on Wednesday that the government does not plan to quarantine entire cities, only infected individuals.

“Coronavirus must not be turned into a weapon for our enemies to halt work and production in our country,” Rouhani said.

On Tuesday Iranian deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi announced that he had contracted coronavirus. In a video taken at his home, Harirchi attempted to reassure viewers, saying “I will certainly defeat corona.”

Harirchi was filmed a day earlier on state television to announce that the country’s outbreak was under control, visibly sweating and wiping his face with a handkerchief.

Sorry guys but can I ask for advice on calming down?
I lurked on /pol/ conspiracies and now I'm genuinely panicking- even though I know that /pol/ tried to predict HAPPENINGS before and failed. But still I can't keep my mind off them because its the type of person I am (I'm easily bothered by things like hiccups and can't make them go away). I know that there's the part of me left that some soldiers won't suddenly come up to my door and assassinate me because I made edgy jokes, I don't know why I'm freaking out like those gangstalker people now.

p-pls help; I admit I have anxiety problems in the past but flinging my shit over something that won't probably happen will not help anything.
What are calming techniques to keep my mind rational and use common sense; mostly on the freaking out over conspiracy part because my brain is trying to believe that I'm gonna die.
I know its dumb but pls help :stress:
