TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

The only solution for Doug to get himself out of his predicament would be to be a "nostalgia/pop culture" historian and get pin point accurate detailed with some hardcore research more so than other youtubers, researching how and why stuff got so popular as they did.

But you know, he has to keep his flock of clapping autist seals continued to be entertained, and he's shown how twofaced "duhh my trends are better than yours" monkey shit slinging he is.

That also requires he does something other than NC and talking shitty movies and spouting jokes in front of a camera...and we all know what happens when he deviates.

In light of Bojack Horseman ending, and some shit about CA.

Previously, Linkara talked extensively about how he related to the Bojack Horseman finale comparing it to his break-up with Channel Awesome. Now, it's Doug's turn to talk about it.

Unlike Lewis, Doug doesn't try to connect it to anything from his own life but just talks about the characters and the storytelling. It is pretty amusing though if you pretend Doug made this video as a veiled response to Lewis.

This would be an interesting premise for someone with ideas and energy. Doug looks visibly burnt out in his newest videos, which isn't surprising. Conceptually he painted himself into an impossible corner, unlike guys like Brad Jones who with his Cinema Snob character (if he even cares any more about making Cinema Snob videos rather than just doing half assed reviews of new releases in his car) has a lifetime supply of trashy 70s and 80s low budget films he could review, and whose brand is based around knowing about esoteric cinema, especially certain genres. He's put the time in in ways that Doug never really did, which is why Doug's takes on films are always so surface level.

Doug from the very beginning cultivated his brand around reviewing the most plebeian content imaginable, mainstream kids entertainment from the 80s and 90s, and riding the elder-Millennial/younger Gen X nostalgia wave that peaked in the early 2010s. That content is finite and I doubt when he started he planned on the Nostalgia Critic essentially defining his life. Unless he changed his formula (which would require creativity and skill) he's doomed to being stuck in the ghetto of his own creation.

And frankly the ship has sailed generationally, 00s nostalgia is getting bigger now that zoomers are more of a marketing demographic and the smart people are all capitalizing on that wave. The era Doug talks about is getting unfashionably dated. He might as well be talking about Amiga games or other esoteric retro stuff since he'll never grow his audience now that his original audience's quarter life crisis is over and they're busy being adults.

Doug's review of The Wall really cemented for me what Lindsay Ellis (allegedly, I can't find the clip) said about Doug not doing any fucking research.

He rags on The Wall for that bit where the main character is lying in the pool in a crucifixion position, and while there's plenty of forced Christian imagery in the film but there was an opportunity for some fun trivia there cause Bob Geldorf can't swim. They actually had something completely different planned for that scene, but they had to make floats for him and he likely did have to lie in that position to stay afloat.

Doug either didn't know this, or did know this and ignored it because he thought his screeching about 'how pretentious' the film was worked better. Dude's a total hack.

so misanthropony wrote this on doug sibling rivalry review of sonic https://www.deviantart.com/misanthr...s-Not-Understand-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-831704909
This begs what could be an eternal burning question: what’s sadder? The lolcow or the lolcow’s very dedicated haters?

Edit: this oughta make the latter group happy:

The problem with method acting is that there are people who know where the line is drawn and those who do it just to have an excuse to be a cunt. Leto is the latter
I've done theatre work, and in Sound of Music the girl playing Maria was a method actress. Once she was "in the zone" she got really pissed off when people spoke to her as if she was (her real name) or talked about technology... There was some wiggle room, she'd take stage direction etc, but it was pretty annoying to be around her.

I will say though, she was a fantastic actress. I literally didn't recognize her several times when she was being herself, even though she didn't look any different apart from the clothes. It was like a real life version of a Snap Chat filter she flicked on

I don't even get it, though - isn't method acting where you actually channel your inner psyche to produce near-authentic emotion? That sounds like something to be striven for, if anything.
No, it's when you play as your character at all times even when not performing. Method actors are hard to work with because they end up doing insane, stupid shit like sending dead rats to coworkers, not bathing, throwing bowling balls at people, and generally being an asshole. There's a reason a lot of "normal" actors hate them.

Oh... yeah, now it at least makes sense why anyone would question it.

So I guess that makes Doug Walker a method actor, then?
