In a report on Arirang and Seoul Economic Daily, the man came from the Office of Emergency Safety Planning at the Ministry of Justice. He was in charged of national emergency situations and crisis management.

A CCTV footage showed that the man indeed got out from his car upon reaching Dongjak bridge and jumped at around 9am in the morning.

The suicide took place amid the current outbreak of the coronavirus disease in South Korea.

Dealing with the recent spike of coronavirus cases is reportedly part of the man’s jurisdiction.

Probably less to do with fear and more with shame. Face and the loss of it are huge in east Asian cultures. Officials who feel they've failed in front of the public are quite likely to suicide. The guy who designed the highways that collapsed in Japan during he Kobe earthquake with large loss of life killed himself from the shame. It's an attitude unknown to public officials who fuck up in the west, obviously.

Aren't people contagious while not showing symptoms / testing negative? I'm wondering if you need a longer period of testing negative before you're finally cured.

in rare cases some carriers have had it shy of a month without showing any symptoms while also contagious. also to note that this can last 2 - 3 weeks and has been reported to have spread through contact with cats and birds. my advice is that instead of prepping or whatever, everyone should treat this as if you know your about to get a really bad version of the flu. make sure you have kleenex, vicks, ice packs and some soup. if you do come down with it just stay hydrated and keep the fever down as best as you can. if you have labored breathing take your ass to the ER as you might be in the rare category of people that experience respiratory failure.

also you are never really "cured" from a virus. It injects its DNA into yours and that's what causes the body to react the way it does. I guess its kinda like surviving the worlds smallest rape...

so again the 2 things to watch out for are
1. melting brain from fever.
2. you stop breathing. (reminds me of a stupid joke about some grapes...)

This wasn't California's fault, for once. CDC is federal. The Californian hospital staff isolated the patient and were trying to get the dumbfucks at the CDC to approve the test for that entire time. The CDC is really fucking this one up.
