James Arthur Watkins a/k/a "Jim Watkins" vs. Fredrick Robert Brennan (2019) - Libel tort in the Republic of the Philippines.

A pox on both their houses for weaponizing the shitty legal system of a rathole so awful that the US just wrote it off and walked away from the place when it was their colony.

I reserve the right to giggle at the fact that what is inside him is now as warped and twisted as his warped and twisted exterior, though.

This is why @Null is a trustworthy site owner and ppl use KF - because he’s not unstable loon with outrage hate boners and doesn’t throw his own principles under the bus just because it might inflict harm on someone he doesn’t like or who wronged him.

It’s amazing how many people ITT are cheering for a guy with brittle bone disease to be thrown into one of the worst prison systems to suffer and die because of internet shit post beefs or because he’s not on “their side” anymore.

Fredrick will just stay safely in California. He can’t afford to buy “justice” in the Philippines.

Not that I’m surprised by this thread. Some Kiwis view legal systems as an emotional outlet for their revenge and punishment fantasies against people they hate on the internet and get real mad if you interject a semblance of reality.

(The Onionson thread is the best current example of this. Half the thread thinks the FBI will be kicking in his door down any minute and regularly fantasize about prison rape. If you point out reality you get four pages of angry sperging.)
I don't want to see any genuine harm come to him, but looking at this Vice article, he seems to be painting a large target on himself if he ever returns to the Philippines.

“This could become case law and that would affect the entire country, all journalists there,” Brennan said. “So it's not really just a feud between me and him. [Watkins] is willing to sacrifice every journalist in the Philippines on the altar of getting revenge against me.”

Just from what I've heard that doesn't seem like the kind of attitude to broadcast to the media if he wants to return there to live. I wonder if the lawyer he mentions is the new lawyer he was saying he was going to his lawyer flaked on him at the last citizenship hearing for Jim. Acain was the lawyer he was working with on this case, but I'm not sure if that's the same one he said he was going to fire or not.

The thread of the argument spawned from your quote was you implying people are happy to see legal trouble for him because they don't like things he said, and I am implying some find it amusing to see someone pulling legal shenanigans having them be used against them.

But no, I'm sure it's all /pol/tards who just want him to DIE for betraying them or something stupid. I thought those folks stayed on A&H anyways?
I think Null has the right of it. People in the thread are thrilled a person they dislike is being attacked by a large and powerful institution. It’s schadenfreude antics though; the charge is bullshit, it curtails human freedom, and it’s utterly disconnected from the stuff Fredrick did.

Null’s reaction is more rational, in my opinion. The government of the Philippines is committing a much bigger outrage than Fredrick ever did. Getting excited about it or cheering over it elevates wounding an enemy over building a healthier society.

Might sound like self-important pseudointellectual stuff, but it’s not abstract for people like Null. He’s visibly running a site many officials consider full of criminal opinions. Freedom of expression online directly affects him, today.

I don't see how someone can get upset over injustice from a country like flipland. If it was the USA, I could understand. And while I am sure there are some who hate HW because they feel 'betrayed' by him, most are just finding the karma amusing.

I don't worry abut misjustices in flipland, just like I don't worry about them in China or North Korea or other hell holes, because THEY ARE HAPPENING ALL THE TIME!

We're talking about a country whose leader allowed thousands of summary executions of suspected drug dealers and accomplices over the past few years. Literally people getting gun downed for standing on street corners and looking suspicious.

But OMG FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS BEING ATTACKED IN PHILIPPINES! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Give me a break.

Null is saying that the use of anti free speech laws to punish someone is not something we should be celebrating on the free speech forum. Period, full stop, that's it. It's not a hard concept to grasp unless you either are or are the equivalent of a /pol/tard.

That's the main point of his argument in this thread, but a sub point was that anybody who finds the karma amusing is a /pol/tard who hates him for saying things they don't like. This is simply not true.

I am pro free speech. I am pro not murdering innocent people. If a /pol/tard advocating totalitarianism moved to China and ranted all the time about how people should be executed for wrong speech, and then tried to get people in China they didn't like executed for wrong speech, and then was rounded up by China and executed for wrong speech, I would find that amusing, even though I am against executing people for wrong speech.

Does that make me a /pol/tard?

Is that really so difficult for you to understand? HW was meeting with flip police trying to get the pig farmer arrested for content on 8ch. Now the pigman, who is rich and can bribe people in that country, is pulling similar tactics. I'm sorry but I can't get outraged about this because the fact that those laws exist means it's not some NEW in that country and probably is used there regularly.

yeah it is kind of deranged to want a cripple to die in a filipino jail because he pissed you off with smugposting on the internet. kinda psychotic to see people talking about gay anal rape in my twitter replies, like people masturbating over the idea of some dude being raped to death because you don't like him.

and yes you are a total fucking /pol/fag. your avatar is an amalgamation of two /pol/ memes. your name has some variation of 'anon'. You only post in off-topic because you have no interest in lolcows.

Fredrick should have expected this kind of result over his relentless sperging over Watkins, especially in a country like the Philippines. Him trying to make this as an attack on journalism is hilarious considering the most he did was write puff pieces over irrelevant shit no one cares about.

However, the charges are dumb and there is no guarantee he will get a fair trial over there. I do not want him to be arrested over this. He should just stay in the US, and maybe cut a check to his pinoy lawyer to pay the bail beforehand if he needs to return.

1. The Philippines is not a country with a long and storied tradition of upholding free speech. Therefore, an assault on free speech in the Philippines is a lot less meaningful.
2. Both Watkins and the cripple only value the idea of freedom of speech in terms of their OWN speech, they're both massive hypocrites. Therefore, seeing Watkins use this cudgel against the little gremlin is unsurprising and karmic, really.
3. This is absolutely fucking hilarious from top to bottom. In the end, very little has really been lost (because if there's one place that's a BASTION of human rights it's the fucking Philippines right), two hypocritical idiots are at each others' throats (which is very funny), and the notion that we shouldn't be laughing at this, cheering the idiots on as they slap each other or otherwise engaging in massive amounts of schadenfreude strikes me as utterly bizarre.

I thought he believed in free speech and he created a platform which allowed for such. Though I didn't frequent 8chan much, so maybe my impression is wrong.
Watkins is an opportunist and hypocrite like any other. This is just one retard hoisting the other by his own petard. Free speech is absolutely in crisis, but the Philippines is not a country in which it's going to be saved.

Am I sad about the implications for free speech here? Sure. But why cry about it at this point? Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you're probably going to weep alone.

EDIT: To wax a bit pedantic and expound a bit upon the futility of crying about this - I'm honestly inclined to believe at this point that free speech is something the vast majority of people won't appreciate until after it's gone. Sometimes you have to lose something to appreciate that you had it in the first place. Don't know what the far-reaching implications of this particular tard-fight will be, if any, but with all the other shit going on I can't be arsed to shed a tear for anyone involved.

All in a country that is reknown for bribery, abuse in prison, and deplorable living conditions inside and outside of gov't facilities. As someone that has been over there and eaten the goddamn balut, cause of course you will, the place is worse than any Sanctuary City in the US. You have more rights in one of those make believe lands in California/New York than you do in the Philippines. Make no mistake I'd rather move to Jamaica and live literally anywhere than in Philippines.

I am not shocked at the timing of the 'visit' to the US. Scooter McHotWheels got a tip off, again see bribery, and fled as fast as his lil VroomVroom could take him.

Big question: Did he take his 'wife'? What is the next step as the US does not have extradition here? Can Jimbo seize his assets as collateral against a court case? We all know the state will gleefully take everything of his in a goddamn heartbeat.

No, its a criminal case not a civil case.

Oh I didn't mean to imply that this legal bickering had any sort of historical implications. Doesn't matter what happens in some little shithole country. I was merely disappointed in the person due to my own naivety. Learned my lesson now and that's that.

Reactions: Dork Of Ages
No matter what I think of hot wheels, the idea that the US would give up one of its own to a third world shit hole because of "naughty words" is laughable. There are no heroes in this story, but the biggest villain IMHO is Jim who decided to weaponize the flips open ended laws to get back at someone he didn't like.

We do, but the US courts would only consider an extradition for crimes that are also illegal in the USA. Defamation in America is a civil crime, not a criminal one, and the Federal Court would just shrug its shoulders and tell them they would need to sue hotwheels in America if they want to keep pursuing this.

And that won't work either. We have a First Amendment here and calling some aging weirdo senile is just an insult, not a crime or even actionable defamation, outside of a few very specific situations. Watkins isn't a doctor or an air traffic controller or anything where being senile would matter to his profession, so he'd have to prove this harmed him somehow.

And as for libel verdicts in Third World shitholes (like the UK), we don't respect those either. We have the SPEECH Act that blocks foreign libel judgments that wouldn't have happened here (unironically thanks Obama!).

Imagine an 8 to 16 year prison term for calling a piece of shit like Watkins a mildly derogatory adjective. The Philippines is a genuinely barbaric shithole and nobody in their right mind should be there. A senile asshole like Watkins is like a pig in shit there, though. He should be there. He's a perfect citizen for a shithole like that.

Hotwheels was an absolute fucking idiot for fucking around with the legal system of a shithole like that, and he's paying the price now. No, he's not stupid, or not that stupid at least, so he's not going back there, where he'd literally die because their prisons are that bad. But he's certainly lost a place he could live really well on practically nothing because he had to slap his dick down in a dick size contest against a corrupt millionaire in a corrupt shithole. Guess who has the bigger dick there you stunted runt?

I can't say I'm not happy to see the smug little traitor get the boot, but this isn't justice, it's just the shitty result of bribery in a Third World country that's proving its status in the world is deserved. Nobody should respect the Philippines or their sad excuse for a legal system.
