his retirement date is 12/21. Over a year and a half away. Nobody was expecting this this week. And most weren’t expecting him to hand the reigns over to Bob “Chainsaw” Chapek. Iger wants to step out on top, so he can preserve his sterling business miracle maker rep. In order to remain viable for a possible 2024 Presidential run.

He's taking a position ABOVE CEO, and is going to be training the guy for the rest of his term. It also allows them to fire Kennedy and others as part of the restructuring.

Holy shit, I just realized that it is like trying to argue with the Y2K preppers when I was in high school.

Well this all took a turn at the worst time. I'm attending a conference in Chicago the first week of March, attended by people from around the country. Will Clorox-wiping everything someone else touches and telling my housekeeper to skip my room keep me safe?

if I'm first Kiwi to get it I promise I'll post my experiences in this thread till my lungs pop, and when I get to Hell I'll put in a good word for all of you

I hope a lesson learned from all this is that in the modern day and age there's no reason not to just use fucking skype calls for business meetings. Flying everyone to San Francisco is a waste and a health hazard.

Nah haven't you heard socialist countries have soooo much better healthcare than democracies its those drumpf voters thst will be jumping the qall to get to brazil! ... I need more anis to say that with a straight face.

Someone call nostradamus this shit's gotta be in the book of revelations somewhere.

How the fuck have the burgerlanders fucked their own supply chain so much? I get why most european countries would start freaking out they have poor farming grounds and primary resources in general. Service based economies suck during viral outbreaks but america is massive, covered in farms and has a ton of natural resources it should be able to supply this shit to itself!
Because China is willing to poison and murder factory workers and we aren't. It makes it hard to compete.

How many people on this thread are either in self isolation or quarantine? O.o
Me but I started even before I heard of coronavirus.

France Jumped from 18 cases to 38, 20 new cases today, don't know if i'm late to the party with these numbers, but here we go !

How many people on this thread are either in self isolation or quarantine? O.o

I am, i stockpiled on water, non perishable foods for up to 3 / 4 months, if i ration it correctly, i'm pretty sure i can make it last 5 to 6 months. As i live in europe tho, i just have a few medieval swords, a pretty intimidating, good fire door busting axe, and a bunch of two hand hammers at home. ( one Simanol and a 3M face masks with replacement air filters, gloves, ear protections, goggles and full plastic / hazmat suits) And I wish my grandmother didn't threw away my dead grandfather's 9 mm and hunting rifles 6 years ago, he had a lot of ammo too...

Oh, and all i have as a distance weapon is an airsoft Tippmann with rubber bullets, even if they don't kill (depends if you happen to shoot in the eye socket) they fucking hurt. Pretty sure anyone who's gonna show up and meet me aiming at them with this shit is going to be scared or at the very least confused, as it's pretty rare to see anyone carrying any handheld weapons of any sort that would look like a gun or a rifle around here. Fairly confident i wouldn't have to shoot, but still, i wouldn't hesitate to aim at a fucker's face and pull the trigger if any stranger would try to put it's feet in my house.

Decision's been made for me. I realise the whole world is gonna get hit, but fuck knows I'd rather take my chances here with the people I love, rather than in the vacuous, ill-equipped, hug box that is Los Angeles. I'll go back intermittently if I have to maintain my visa (getting on that flight Naomi Campbell style). I'm being a sap, but these fucking world shifts don't half highlight the important shit in your life.

Ohio news time. Nothing exciting currently.

8th suspected case's test came back negative.

DeWine gave a press conference in Cleveland.

Vermin Supreme does not approve.

Non-amp version of the last article wouldn't unfurl.

The numbers have gone up surprisingly quick outside China that is. Point in the matter China is now a death state and with the BBC saying 5% get Critical following WHO talks that is bad.

The death of the young person in Iran is concerning as it could mean its mutating and then this random patient in the US not going to China yet being the supposed patient zero is worrisome because it sounds like it has meant they dont know who patient zero is.

Europe and the Middle East are the ones to watch due to border control issues and the open flying. Its going to plague havoc on containment and the process of containment is going to be impossible to maintain or pointless. If medics are getting sick then its game over because without medics its done, its self-treatment and that is when the fatalities will mount up.

The WHOs response about it calming down to hot weather and it just tiring out are completely baseless and them trying to downplay the situation entirely.

That statement from Cali is horrifying - the homeless population in that state and NY are going to magnify cases and mortality rate crazy. A potential of 100,000 homeless is terrifying as they are pretty good at sneaking around undetected. In the UK we have a pretty bad homeless situation too so we should be trying to contain them too.

The Germans declare coronavirus officially deadlier than the flu:

RKI President Lothar Wieler said the likelihood of dying from flu was 0.1 to 0.2 %. According to the figures known so far, the rate for Sars-CoV-2 is almost ten times as high - 1-2 %. 80 %of those infected had only mild symptoms, but 15 %were seriously ill with the lung disease Covid-19.

Press conference:

Hmmm...but WHO(re) says it's just sniffles, man :story:
But Trump said on national television the flu was worse?

In other news the market dropped 1200 points today. Odd, no democratic debate to drive it down only Trump’s press conference yesterday and Pence taking control of the coronavirus situation. Oh and he spent hours with “diamond and silk” and some producers of a play about the FBI. 🤔

The woman in California lives in the same county as Travis Airforce Base where some of the Wuhan expats came in to the US. It was just leaked that HHS sent people to assist the expats without proper PPE.

It’s safe to assume someone who met the plane got it then passed it on in the community.

Investors are generally fickle and the market drops anytime panic/uncertainty creeps in, deservedly or not, and that's before you factor in the shortages caused by Chinese supply chain.

Just joking.
The last day or 2 the media here has been spamming *hard* about coronachan and I wish I could give them a ⏰ rating. A lot about the economic impact it'll have/is having on Universities and tourism especially after the fires and floods.

Heard on the radio this morning Shinzo Abe has given all elementary, junior high and high schools in Japan an early holiday by closing them down. They wouldn't normally end their school year for another month. The plan is to start the new school year in April per usual.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/27/world/asia/japan-schools-coronavirus.html
No way they're hosting the Olympics, shit's just getting started and you want millions and millions of people from basically every country in the world packed into a tiny country like Japan? Fark that.

AP FACT CHECK: Democrats distort coronavirus readiness
By LAURAN NEERGAARD and CALVIN WOODWARDyesterday

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential contenders are describing the federal infectious-disease bureaucracy as rudderless and ill-prepared for the coronavirus threat because of budget cuts and ham-handed leadership by President Donald Trump. That’s a distorted picture. For starters, Trump hasn’t succeeded in cutting the budget.
He’s proposed cuts but Congress ignored him and increased financing instead. The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aren’t suffering from budget cuts that never took effect.
More AP Fact Checks
A look at some of the Democrats’ remarks:

MIKE BLOOMBERG: “There’s nobody here to figure out what the hell we should be doing. And he’s defunded — he’s defunded Centers for Disease Control, CDC, so we don’t have the organization we need. This is a very serious thing.” — debate Tuesday night.
JOE BIDEN, comparing the Obama-Biden administration with now: “We increased the budget of the CDC. We increased the NIH budget. ... He’s wiped all that out. ... He cut the funding for the entire effort.”
THE FACTS: They’re both wrong to say the agencies have seen their money cut. Bloomberg is repeating the false allegation in a new ad that states the U.S. is unprepared for the virus because of “reckless cuts” to the CDC. Trump’s budgets have proposed cuts to public health, only to be overruled by Congress, where there’s strong bipartisan support for agencies such as the CDC and NIH. Instead, financing has increased.
Indeed, the money that government disease detectives first tapped to fight the latest outbreak was a congressional fund created for health emergencies.
Some public health experts say a bigger concern than White House budgets is the steady erosion of a CDC grant program for state and local public health emergency preparedness — the front lines in detecting and battling new disease. But that decline was set in motion by a congressional budget measure that predates Trump.
The broader point about there being “nobody here” to coordinate the response sells short what’s in place to handle an outbreak.
The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions are coming from the White House. Those plans were put into place in anticipation of another flu pandemic, but are designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.
Among the health authorities overseeing the work are Dr. Anne Schuchat, CDC’s principal deputy director and a veteran of previous outbreaks, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, NIH’s infectious disease chief who has advised six presidents.

“The CDC’s response has been excellent, as it has been in the past,” said John Auerbach, president of the nonpartisan Trust for America’s Health, which works with government at all levels to improve the nation’s response to high-risk health crises. Some Democrats have charged that Trump decimated the nation’s public health leadership, but Auerbach said CDC’s top scientific ranks have remained stable during the past three years.
Will the preparations be enough?
One of the lessons learned in prior crises, such as the anthrax attacks, is not to offer false assurances when scientists have questions about the illness.
The CDC, for example, can accurately test for the virus but has struggled to get working test kits to state health departments. That’s key if there’s a need to rapidly increase the number of tests being performed.
The U.S. closed borders to travelers from China to buy time as preparations began but, “classically that’s not the way you address an outbreak,” Fauci told The Associated Press this week. “If you do it for a very limited period of time, temporarily until you can get things in order in your own country, it could have some benefit. But in general, the concept of closing borders, you cannot do that for an extended period of time.”
But with infections now in much of the world, one of the questions for U.S. policymakers is whether it’s time to modify any of those border or travel restrictions.

Whhhhhhaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt??//??//??

The the media reporting the orange man isn't that bad??

So the liberal with Trump Derangement Syndrome on my Facebook feed was wrong and spouting disinformation? I'm shocked at this turn of events.

Because American's started considering "Blue collar jobs" to be beneath them. You can't live in the high tech world of tomorrow if you have a spot of oil on your clothes.

A county of 400,000 in the San Francisco Bay area and "It’s safe to assume someone who met the plane got it then passed it on in the community"?
No, just no.
