Someone asked earlier why she just blatantly spoils things. I think it is her poor conversationalist skills. By explaining the movie, she "proves" she watched it. She doesn't have any deeper analysis of why she enjoyed it, the only thing she ever brings up is Tumblr nonsense like the above. Thus her conversation about the movie is stuck at "this is what happened. Here are the problematic parts". Take away that and she doesn't really have anything to say, so that is all she says.

You know steph, you don't have to explain the events of a movie to explain why its a good movie. Normally people would go 'oh i like this film because of the cinematography and how the characters interact and blah blah blah' not 'i like it cause a black police officer got beaten by his daughter's abusive ex'. I think it's also because she's incapable of independent thought. When she sees some relatively new movie or show that hasn't been discussed to death yet on Mastodon, she can't offer up anything besides a literal plot summary because nobody's told her what she's supposed to be saying/thinking about it. Trying to hold an actual conversation with her must be excruciating.

I disagree. In all the cases she had talked about movies, she has a unique opinion formed for each. "When the one guy was getting beat up it was bad because he was black, but also good because he was a cop" is something only Staphy could have come up with. Her independent thoughts are dumb, but there is some attempts at independent thinking. Her overview of the movie always has things like "I liked it", so it isn't like she is trying to just give an overview to avoid giving her opinion.

maybe a bit late/off topic, but i was looking at earlier pages in the thread (in the teens), before the MW saga, THE BROWN and the deviantart saga was unearthed. it's interesting considering everything that happened and all we know about staphy now.
