Well hell,Alameda county. That's San Fran. Also add in sac town la Cook county and chi town along with the surrounding area places like Garry IN and Markham il and all the other areas. Along with Portland Seattle and prob Everett port Tacoma. Take it from someone who's been to all these places. This is the last thing you want there. The Last Fucking Thing.

There are some mitigating factors, especially in the US. Our infrastructure is better than China’s. We don’t breathe smog or drink sewage from our tap water (Wuhan and other cities in China have infamously had E. Coli coming out of their taps; a terrible thing to have with a waterborne or sewage-borne illness like this). We don’t have floor drains in most of our apartments. We are averse to public transportation and a lot of us have our own cars or we bike. We also have state-of-the-art hospitals. Our population densities are also a whole lot lower.

I can only hope that these factors, in combination, help arrest the spread to the point where it’s manageable.

Just relax, my dude. Didn't mean to snap at you but it's true that panicking doesn't help. I was in your boat a few weeks ago when this shit first sprang up. But the more time you take to learn about something, the less you will fear it. This is definitely a spooky situation but you also have to be practical in regards to where you live and how things are run.

I'm not saying that everything is going to be dandy but there are lots of ways this could simmer out. There could be a mutation that lessens the strain. It could fade with growing summer heat (unlikely but there's a chance). Hell, more Americans have the luxury of being able to work from home unlike in other parts of the world. Obviously not ALL, but a good chunk. And that means less people up and about will do wonders for calming shit down in cities. There are already people on the news that have recovered from the disease who are sharing their stories. They seem frail, but functioning. The reinfection shit may definitely be a thing but again, this isn't China or Iran. Even Italy has a shot at getting its shit together by virtue of not being those countries.

Just find some way to try to take it easy. Monitor the situation but take sensationalist articles with a grain of salt. If someone like me is wrong, then who cares? We'll either be dead or have a hell of a story to tell the next generation.

I live off of brown rice (i have an arsenic deficiency). The generic brand has been missing from the store for weeks. I completely forgot about the coronavirus. Are people stocking up? Maybe it's some other reason and a coincidence. White rice is the one with the infinite shelf life, I'd buy that. Or maybe that's gone too and I didn't notice. Why do people prepare for this stuff and buy those turner-diaryesque "how to survive the apocalypse" pamphlets from army surplus stores but they won't stop smoking or eating snack pies.

They never give any info about which shops or what city they're in. I don't feel like driving around and personally investigating, so can anyone that's been out this weekend say whether this is bullshit or nah?

But wouldn't a morality rate like %2 seem a bit...overestimated? Since you get people that are living in poor conditions which make them a easy meal for the virus as we're already seeing. I always thought it would read like just dying to the virus only, not adding outside factors.

But it gets worse. People are only thinking of the number of deaths. Most people see those numbers of recovered and think its all well and good but how many of them will have permanent problems. How many are going need some sort or rehab, how many will never reach 100% again. How long out of the workforce, how many might not be able to ever do the job they had before again, how much resources taken up recovering. Ripples everywhere

Some people earlier in the thread were poo pooing Zika. I know a guy from church, 31 years old, healthy, who got tagged by it. Year and a half recovery, still needs a walker and will most likely for the rest of his life. To be honest when people look at those recovered numbers they should be looking at them as survived because true recovery might be something different.

This is a supposedly leaked list of corona cases in the Netherlands. Take it with a grain of salt.
The cases are sorted in 2 categories
Pos 1e Covid19 Test = positive for corona
Verdachte Pneumonia gevallen = Pneumonia

They are sorted per hospital. The hospital names are shortened in the following way : province-city-name.
So 76 NCOV/COVID19/Coronavirus cases
and 178 pneumonia cases.

This is a much higher number than the NL government reports, but as the gov has held back info on the first case before I wouldn't put it past them to lie about this.

Closing the pit will do a lot of harm than you know. You do not know how much insider trading is done down there when they are "off the mic" In this day of electronic dealings a simple pen and paper with scribbles is quite effective to make billions. Easy to get rid of. Hard to trace as there is no digital foot print for law enforcement ( hahahaha) to find. Not being able to make the usual connections
cause those super rich take matters in their own hands. Something I know I don't want to see.

More importantly closing the pit means that the so called virus is fucking real to the masses and that will cause good old RED NECK JOHNNY saying that the world is "goin ta end" while storing 50 thousand rounds .308 round and thousands of pounds of MRE's in his bunker.

Panic is what is going cause things to happen.

I thought about that after I posted, but even a vague idea, like Midwest USA would be helpful. I was getting frustrated by all the "Sky is falling! Don't worry if you can't see it, just trust me, it is" type stuff.

Just to play Devil’s Advocate here. The likely reason for the large number of birds is things like Garbage pickup have been shut down and quarantined for weeks in Wuhan. The locals are just dropping the garbage off their balconies.

Yeah, I've seen hundreds of crows in parking lots swooping down on very small amounts of garbage so imagine how it is in a large city where there is no one to pick up the garbage for weeks. They're impressively organized opportunists.

If it was vultures it'd be one thing but crows are omnivores, not exclusive carrion eaters, it's spooky but not surprising to see a ton of them in an empty city full of garbage.

Which isn't to say there aren't lots of dead people, but I think people are overreacting to the crows a bit due to the perception of them as dark omens.

Nice parallel with the name of the virus sounding a bit like "corvid" though.

That is very true. There's a great deal of info I could give but I have to think on what is to be placed out there. You have too because there are enough fucking nut cases that will do things to you just because.
