Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The Iranian people have got to be among the most put upon people in the world. And the least deserving of it. Actual Iranians are generally some of the nicest most trouble free people on the planet. You have to wonder what God they pissed off to have the Ayatollah's imposed on them.
That’s sampling bias. The ones who aren’t exceptional Islamic retards fled the country to escape the theocratic dictatorship imposed after the Shah’s fall. The unpleasant ones tend to just stay in the land of the Ayatollah rather than move.

Sister Mary has it. She was the face of the hostage takers and is a vice president nowadays. Sadly, though, she's only 59.

I saw that. Brought a big smile to my face. Hope she chokes to death on her own secretions.

Also remembered I served with another hostage, a few years before 1979. He was a black guy, released a few days after the takeover.

You've GOT to be shitting me. That is a quantum leap past exceptional. And Muslims wonder why so many people think so badly of their religion. Seventh-century thinking is not compatible with advanced societies.

Correction, a government-run council of Islamic scholars declared vaccines Haram

I don't think anyone is wondering why when it showed up in Iran, it showed up in Qom, the center of their religious lunacy, first and heaviest.
Mmm, tasty shrines in Qom...

That's even MORE fucked up. Hope the Indonesian government downplays this. The Indonesian health system isn't the greatest. Highly doubt they'd be able to handle the people coming in for treatment.

In my opinion, Indonesia, like India and Brazil, are the "countries of the future" that will always be "countries of the future". They have the people. They have or have access to resources. But they've never really taken off, and doubt they ever will.

Doesn’t Indonesia have the largest Muslim population in the world? What are the odds they follow Iran’s lead?

That’s the big thing that everyone misses. For pretty much all of the reported deaths seen outside of China, the Corona-Chan deaths seem to be part of the annual seasonal flu/respiratory deaths. Not above and beyond them. Although it will be at the upper end of the seasonal scale. Those prone to die from the flu will be very prone to die of Corona-Chan. With the greatest danger when it gets loose in a Nursing Home or similar care facility. Like has just happened in Washington. The Second Patient from that unsurprisingly has died.

To keep things in perspective, I just heard one of the MD’s in Congress pointing out that the CDC has recorded 2000 flu deaths so far this year. Now some of those may be undetected Corona-Chan, but largely it is just mixing in with the annual flu deaths and not adding on top of them. Which is why you need to look at the news through the filter os “what is normal”? The media will sensationalize and overhype every Covid19 related death, without keeping them in proper perspective and context.
Yeah, I know people are touchy about the "it's just a flu bro!" thing, which is not what I'm trying to say at all, but it's worth considering what it would sound like if we reported on annual flu deaths the way they report on COVID-19 deaths.

During the 2017-18 flu season there were as many as 4,000 Americans dying every week from influenza, but it wasn't reported on in the way Wu flu is, so many people didn't even know how bad the flu was that year. As far as most people knew, nothing out of the ordinary was happening.

It's just something worth putting into perspective, especially when we start getting into the really high number of deaths we're going to inevitably see with this virus.

Entire schools have been closed due to influenza b outbreaks in the US this year to let outbreaks pass. It's reported on matter of factly, not with the breathless sensationalism of this.

It's just so over the top.

Has this been posted yet? Some Russian guy decided to travel from Shanghai to the border of Hubei Province.

On-the-ground look at conditions.

Some silly "48 Hours Mystery" type music, but overall a comfy watch (about 30 minutes)

Preaching to the choir, but right away I'm concerned that he isn't wearing eye protection. I'm not discounting the possibility that he's doing good reporting, but he's banging on about droplet transmission and not wearing eye protection. Maybe he's planning to continue reporting through quarantine and treatment if he gets infected? (:lunacy:)

This is more deadly than influenza, though, and there’s no tamiflu equivalent or vaccine to help protect those who are high risk. It’s pretty much a death sentence for those 60+ and/or those with other medical issues.

CDC - Removing zhe numbers, because ... fuck you bigots that's why!
King County leaders give update on coronavirus in Washington
TLDR: It's not that bad, its just that we have no clue what we are doing. Here have some delish bat soup fren (´・ω・)っ由 ps. Only bigots wear Masks, spread the word.
Wildhorse resort confirmed Case

The Daily Mail is in full panic mode. Coronavirus has been in and circulating around the US at least since December 2019. If it were the mother of all viruses we'd have corpses littering the streets by now.

I haven't heard about any lines except at the Brooklyn and Queens Costco and since both boroughs have large Asian populations I'm not surprised. I haven't seen any of that at Target or any other supermarket in Manhattan despite nearly everyone I spoke with last week confessed to being worried and two used the word "terrified".

Ordering online and picking up at the store is great, I avoid crowds and things, just run in and out with my stuff.

Yeah, that is pretty much to be expected when this gets into a nursing home or similar. That is going to be the bulk of the deaths, and what will produce the sudden big numbers. And it’s always a risk during flu season. Right now Covid19 looks to be on par with some prior bad seasons, such as 1968. But not anywhere close to 1918’s lethality. Granted a lot of that may be evolution of technology and social conditions.

In case anybody missed it “PLEASE DON’T LICK THE WALLS!“ is step one in Coronavirus prevention.

No it isn't. In China, with their primo health care, the death rate seems to be 3.6 percent for people in their 60s. Even at 80+ it's less than 15 percent.

first the dem primaries
then the number of dead/infected in china
now the virus numbers in the US
next the US census numbers
then the election results

should be a fun/interesting year for stats nerds

New case in Placer County, CA, spread by close contact with the infected in Solano County. Starting to get a little palms sweaty, arms spaghetti as a SoCal fag...

I'm unfamiliar with Saudi Arabia's healthcare - scale of 1-10 how fucked are they? Iirc they already had stay at home services in light of the outbreak news.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to quietly stew somewhere so I'm not visibly MOTI at those Indonesian dipshits issuing a vaccine ban

National health care system and access to private for those who can afford it.

No it’s not more deadly than the flu even though the flu is 0.1% in the US?
