Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The first Berlin corona patient showed atypical symptoms

The first Berlin corona patient was diagnosed "by accident" on Sunday. The young man, who claims that he had suffered from cold symptoms for a few weeks, got a travel vaccination at the Tropical Medicine Center in Berlin-Mitte on Saturday. During the night on Sunday, his condition worsened a lot, he looked disoriented. His roommates therefore informed the ambulance service that brought him to the Charité.

The medical director responsible for medical care there, Ulrich Frei, told the press that the positive corona test was a "coincidence". Because the complaints with which the young man had been brought in did not indicate an infection with the new virus: he was feverish, complained of body aches and still looked disoriented.

Charité employees initially suspected meningitis, then tested for influenza. Since the infections in North Rhine-Westphalia last week, however, the Charité has been testing the coronavirus as standard if it is suspected of having influenza. That now benefited the young man. "Without this internal regulation of running a parallel test, the patient would still be undetected at home," says Frei.

The patient had already been sent home on Sunday afternoon when the influenza test returned negative. In the evening the surprise: Sars-CoV-2. The clinic then informed the responsible health department, which sent an official doctor to the infected person, who was then taken back to the clinic. The health department finally identified 60 contact persons of the young man who are currently being tested for the coronavirus and quarantined them, including eight Charité employees.

It is not known where the patient was infected.

More info on the patients in Florida has been released: https://www.tampabay.com/news/healt...coronavirus-more-are-expected/?outputType=amp

A woman in her 20s was tested for it afters he was in italy on vacation and is staying at home. The other is a man in his 60s (at the Veterans Hospital thanks to my gossipy medical friends) who caught it from an unknown source, and was only tested on it when the expanded guidelines let him be tested. It's pretty likely the kung flu is out in the wild - the Tampa area has a large population of both immigrant Chinese and international college students in general.

From what I see coming out of governments around the world, the problem is either relatively mild overall but still needs to be dealt with or its a big problem that they cant really deal with.

The reason I am placing this situation in those two categories is if it is a mild situation causing panic and market destabilization is stupid.

If it is a big problem that they cant deal with it, where no matter what we do we are screwed it is stupid to cause panic and market destabilization early.

If the problem was in-between we would most likely see a strong preemptive effort to curb a medium problem from becoming a large one.

That shit is going to be the end of me. And Im not talking about the virus itself. All I hear on tv today is corona this that.

Heck even our national sperg party (the opposition) is blaming our President for causing Corona "because its so convenient for him to have something to prove he can defend our country against"

Also atleast 2 highly suspected cases, schoolgirls from Italy trip. Fuck.

This has been all over the news.

So are you supposed to just walk in these all day?
You might as well just wear a motorcycle helmet, poncho, and gloves at that point.
Waaayyy cheaper, and somehow less stupid looking.

wtf How is severe pneumonia that spreads like a head cold something the President can defend against? He'd have better luck starting a war.

The governments are keeping a lid on it like China for most.

There are a few factors we need to know:
- How virulent is it?
- How deadly is it?
- Are any of its "hacks" true? Like can it spread by aerosolisation, reinfect, hide in other tissue or live off bacteria, cause cyto immune stuff bogaloo and all that.

It seems to be as virulent and deadly as every other flu causing virus that is in your air right at this moment. If you wish to quantify this then it is very virulent and can kill anyone (so being young and healthy is not an immunity, if you get the symptoms then you can potentially die but your chances are much better if you are young and healthy).

As for any hacks we know so little that it is just pointless to speculate any special hacks it has. The cytokine storm shit is pointless to speculate since that is caused when any infection gets to be bad enough. You might as well say that the coronavirus has the ability to inflict cardiac arrest and be as correct as saying that it can somehow produce cytokines.

And just to bring this home evn though I know it will be lost : Flu, cold, sniffles IS NOT synonimus to harmless. Don't jeer the people that say it is just a flu, flus can fuck you up and if you would die from coronachan then you would die from any flu that is right next to you right now.

But perhaps the goverments should invest in their own pharma companies. That way neither the private nor government sector would have a monopoly. Eating half of the cake and keeping half.

News report in the year 2040 " After spending 4 trillion dollars the governmental pharma agency today announced they feel confident they will have a COVID-19 vaccine before the year 2055 assuming continued budget increases".

Please go hang yourself on your own bootstraps.
Those roads aren't very good, the law enforcement are called "pigs" for a reason, the stock market is a Jew casino worth nothing, and the Internet is a hodge podge of tech, some of which invented by the gubmint, some of which invented by public universities, some of which invented by private individuals and firms - BBSes date from a particularly nasty blizzard that hit Chicago in 1978, and a major feature of the Internet, its robust network capability, was invented by a Hawaiian amateur radio operator.

I mad at the Internet about this. Continue with your Wuflu posting, kiwis. By the way, how many people have died of regular influenza in China this year?

I see a lot of people smugly regurgitate this, but they don’t consider Corona-chan + flu deaths.

Sure, your health system can, just, manage a bad flu season, but multiply that and you see where the trouble is.

That’s why governments are talking about setting up triage clinics in parking lots.
I didn't consider myself smug when I was simply trying to add some perspective to the conversation. As far as the Corona Virus goes, I choose not to buy into the panic. I fully expect to die one day of something, so why worry?

Go look at a privately funded toll road then look at a Federally funded highway.
In the US law enforcement has no legal duty to protect individuals. Why would I "worships government funded law enforcement"?
The stock market is little more than a very large casino.
"invented by the government" not "built and maintained by the government".

How does one get so triggered by the reality that government programs always take longer and cost more?

Anybody who thinks the government will be effective and efficient with money, may I direct you to the Big Dig.

The big thunk is, if it was just a regular flue, why the ever loving Winnie the Pooh are chingchongs freaking out so much because of it?
