The Final Fantasy Thread

Good content yall!

I like the idea of RedXIIIbeing a guest during the midgar arc; he isn't a member of AVALANCHE at that point and just wants to get out of Midgar. This makes sense and I think it helps to increase the import of him actually joining the party later.

Jesse always seemed to have a thing for Cloud but the early sequences were so rushed in the original that the deaths of Jesse, Biggs and Wedge meant almost nothing to the player. Even as an adult, I didn't care because they were barely characters. Fleshing them out and having them really interact with Cloud should lead to their deaths being more meaningful.

Demo was fun.

Still don't care for making AVALANCHE neutered, but I keep forgetting Squeenix is company that'll move locations (probably per Nomura's whim) just to maintain the image of looking cool or something, so I guess depth and nuance isn't going to appeal to the Shinjuku teeny bopper crowd.

I really loved the music. I know the main battle theme is in here since it's on the vinyl but I kind of like the aggressive mixes of area themes like XIII-2 for fight music.

One thing I really liked is the way it feels. Feels like a video game: characters move at a Doom-guy like pace instead of this awkward realistic thing I think XV did. Everything was fast and responsive which sounds like weird praise but I don't normally notice this since everything tries to treat the gameworld as a real obstical for these digital guys to walk over with tripping and stamina. Cloud is just a roided up freak that wont slow down to catch his breath and this is a good thing.

Also, while I need to see if I can swap the triangle and X button I really like the battle system. I want to try out this classic mode later, but what the standard gameplay is is great.

So I'm hyped mostly for the gameplay and seeing a fully realized story and some nice music arrangements, but the story is what I kind of worry about since I feel it'll just be the fan version of FF7 than the reality. But at least Cloud seems cocky and cool again at the start so there is hope.

Tifa really played the long game, casually outliving two thots to win the Cloudbowl.

Nice gorls finish last but at least they finish!

Did anyone else assume Jessie was male in the original? Ah, the days when you needed to use your imagination to flesh out a game world. Turns out I've been pronouncing Mako incorrectly all these years as well.

To be fair, with only a used cartridge only copy of Link's Awakening until Ocarina came out, I thought Link was a girl.

And there's nothing like that bullshit quest to collect 12 chops in Final Fantasy 12.
How do you know?

Me too, I thought it was pronounced May-ko
It is. Also it's Aeris not Aerith. No one can make me say different.

She's living the gamer dream. Gets the objects of her affection through nothing but perseverance and obsessive co dependence.

No pronouncing Mako like the shark is correct in English. In japan it's Mah-Ko due to language rules translation bullshit.

It's the same shit that plagued the dub of Eureka 7 where they pronounced Eureka as Eeeooo-REK-A because that's how the Japanese say it.

So it's under-translation? Great. Weebs seem super vulnerable to that.

Everything in the demo seems well organized, I already found the character stats and am just dicking around with trying to get items to appear in the inventory by just replacing one number with the next.

In the demo at least bringing stats to max does not go away with leveling up, so you can pretty much bruteforce everything and hit for max damage for every attack. This was a trait with other recent square games like Kingdom hearts 3.

I'm going to take a wild guess that Roadtripping and Vehicles in the open world will be a thing in part 2 and this seems to be re-using a ton of technical stuff they figured out in 15. The Draw distance tricks in 15 seems to be present in 7 already and there's nothing that huge and expansive in Midgard as of yet so it must be for the world segments too. So expect to travel the world in a car and other vehicles and take pictures along the way with Barret, Tifa, and Aerith. That could be something that makes the world exploration greatly improved from the original. I will be very surprised if we don't have concrete part 2 info by the end of this year. It seems like they're setting everything up to be reused for code and assets.

I know Final Fantasy 8 used a car for it's first vehicle where you had to also buy gas as an item but I can't remember if 7 did it.

Holy crap was that boss a damage sponge. I might just have to play the game on easy if boss battles are gonna drag on and on like that. At one point I had 27 potions and I ended up using (and needing) every last one of them because dodging is for faggots. I also wasn't keen on the escape out of the reactor having a bunch of battles thrown at you where you can't just run past them, you need to kill the enemies before the prompt to open the door to get outta there shows up.

It's fun to see high quality versions of everyone with genuinely impressive voice acting, and I got a kick out of seeing ads on the walls and vending machines with the FF bomb enemy. Everything looks a light year better than Advent Children, and visually it's pretty much everything I've ever wanted. The combat, though, man there's a lot of menuing. It'll take a lot of getting used to, going between real-time action and pausing to mess around in the menus constantly. Like I guess Secret of Mana kinda had the same thing going, but I had to open the menu to heal or use some ability just constantly.

Barret was more fun to play as than Cloud though

7 just used chocobos for land travel

Wow I don't like Cody Christian. I miss Steve Burton
He's grown on me. The people already claiming he's way better are amusing, though, considering he's very obviously aping Steve Burton's portrayal at points.

The buggy was technically a car that did travel faster, but you didn't need gas and still got into random encounters. It was useful for taking shortcuts by crossing into shallow parts of rivers and you could use it to travel back to the East Continent/the continent that Midgar and Junon is on before Disk 2, where it suddenly vanishes when you come back from the North.

That boss was definitely pretty intense, athlough I beat him first time on normal it was much harder than you'd expect the opening boss of a game to be. But I couldn't figure out how to consistently evade his missiles, if that's even possible. A good demo and has definitely tempted me to get the full release.

Reactions: Pissmaster

I don't have a playstation yet so I can't play the demo, but I watched Vinesauce's playthrough of it last night. It looks great, and vinny said pretty much all the same stuff that people have said here- everything from the posters to the voice acting to the battle system.

It looks pretty interesting and I think it'll be a fun game. I don't think I'll buy a playstation 4 for it quite yet, but I might get a ps5 when it comes out and then pick it up. I recently discovered that I can somewhat easily emulate ps3 but that won't help much.

One thing that Vinny mentioned at the beginning of the stream was that the music is nice but seems to be oacking some of the charm of the original OST due to the lack of synths and such- I definitely agree with that. I listened to the audio leaks when that happened a while back and it all sounded good but it doesn't stand out as much. I hope that future songs retain some of that extra-synthy quality.
