Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I've gotten around a lot at malls and stores in the past week and have only seen 1 mask. I flew out of 2 airports in the past 2 weeks and only saw 1 mask (but that was before it really hit the US).

This toilet paper madness is fucking hilarious.

As an aside, for Americans this is doubly odd because Woolworths went out decades ago here. Australia is like some Bizarro parallel dimension for us where stuff like Woolworths and Kmart still exist that are long gone here. Do you have Montgomery Wards and Waldenbooks too?

Went shopping today and there's no isopropyl alcohol (even the 50% was wiped out), no hand sanitizer, no hand soap and no Lysol products. Still plenty of toilet paper on the shelves. There was a lot of cleaning bleach left but the scented bleach was completely wiped out which was surprising and worrying.

In the absence of alcohol, Lysol and hand soap, people were buying a lot of Listerine. Whether it was as an alternative cleaning product or not, I don't know.

Well, the Boomers have cleared out my local Wal-Mart of cleaning products and hand sanitizer.

Other than they forgot that the check out lanes have the pocket sized ones.

We are two hours from a major city.

It is a shame these people didn't take this seriously last month and buy things rather than everyone buying everything at once and putting a strain on supply.

I feel bad for anyone going after their normal supply of stuff due to being on Social Security and finding it empty due to the panic.

OP is a faggot who saw the ABC adaptation of The Stand from the early 90's and thought it was a documentary.

I plan to start wearing masks when I do my grocery shopping if I don’t do deliveries.

Having a hard time imaging Instacart or Costco employees not delivering while sick. I think masks do protect you from others just not completely.

Every doctor I personally know has stated that masks are useless against corona. Their opinion is that it's just psychological band-aid to make people feel better and less exposed, but it does nothing to prevent getting the disease. When I asked one of them why they have to normally use masks during surgery, the reply was "So that my chewing tobacco doesn't accidentally fall in to the patients wounds."

That is basically why lmao. Surgeons wear masks to protect the patient from the microbes THEY have, not usually the other way around. That said they do protect you more than just breathing it in directly if you change them often and wear goggles.

Like I said, psychological band-aid. Normal people don't have means or understanding to even remove the mask without contaminating themselves in the process, and the mask itself makes no difference. And you really think that anyone would start wearing goggles? And even if they did, how exactly are you going to remove the goggles without potentially contaminating yourself in the process, unless you have some kind of air-locked sterilization chamber at your house?

And ultimately, why? This is not some end-of-the-world disease. Where I live, no-one wears any "protectice gear", and no-one is going to, as that is something that only lunatics do.

The state i live in is rural, and doesn't have any reported cases of corona chan yet, but that didn't stop tons of people from cleaning out the Walmart I went to this morning. 7 am and there were twice as many people there as usual.

Saw several boomers frantically loading carts full of water and whatnot. Basically all the usual items were pretty much stripped clean, isopropyl alcohol, hand sanitizer, pet food, water, etc. Luckily I was able to get the shit I needed.

I'm still waiting on a confirmation email that the n95 masks I ordered from a reliable hardware seller are actually coming. With my luck they'll tell me they ran out or some bullshit. Here's to hoping! Good luck Kiwis.

There's a buzz around Coffs Harbour, NSW, having its first confirmed case. So far it's just social media and facebook boomer gossip but they're usually on the pulse for local news, especially in relatively small places like this (Coffs has a 75k pop as of last census)
I only have a week to go before I can head back into the bush. Here's hoping I can beat our girl out of the city.

Yep.

And as of yet no white person under boomer age has died.

Corona-chan is in my country and I don't care.

Western news agencies are pretty slow on the uptake with this one, we've known for an hour now. The guy was in Germany and presumably brought the virus from there (city is very close to the border), he contacted the doctor himself, he's feeling fine, him and everyone known to have been in contact with him are now in quarantine. Let's see how this goes.

I bought 2 packages of toilet paper that were left. A friend told me her boss called to the giant warehouse because they didn't have any left. Turns out 2 mega warehouses are empty. Completely empty.
This is in germany, just about 200+ official infected.
I think I will once again see the true face of a lot of people when times go rough. First desinfections then tp what's next?
Funny thing was almost all tomato in cans was gone Except the ones that say they are direct from Italy. How wacist of them to not want to get infected.

I promise this will be my last toilet paper post.
