Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I'm seeing reports that only 45 of 3.5k people onboard the Grand Princess are being tested. Wtf? https://mobile.twitter.com/taydolven/status/1236014225086177285
Seems like there's a waitlist to test or something. I heard about a state that had people they wanted to test but have to wait until the weekend. Can't find it now but it's a state that didn't have any confirmed cases yet. Nationally we've only tested like 2000 people, so that's pretty fucking embarrassing.

I'm coofing to see what happens to China's Liquidity problems and shadow banking system when all this settles down.

Could be a bunch of things affected when this calms down, at that time and long-term. Credit bubble, housing bubble, debt bubble, companies pulling out of China and/or establishing additional production outside the country, purchasers finding second and maybe even third sources of supply, problems with Hong Kong, problems with the USA, possible long-term internal problems re the WuFlu atrocities, for starters.

Confirmed coronavirus deaths in Washington state reach 14; UW cancels in-person classes

EvergreenHealth in Kirkland has confirmed three more deaths related to coronavirus as of Friday morning, bringing the total number of Washington state fatalities attributed to COVID-19 to 14. The Seattle Times first reported the deaths.

Thirteen of the deaths have been in King County and one in Snohomish County. Pierce County does not have any confirmed cases, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

The state Department of Health announced Friday morning the number of confirmed cases has risen to 79.

LIFE CARE UPDATE
The Seattle-King County Health Department has announced that there are 15 new coronavirus patients being transferred out of the Life Care facility in Kirkland.

Following complaints from patients’ loved ones, Gov. Jay Inslee said the state would set up an incident command post specifically for long-term care facilities.

The state is working with Life Care to allow family members to take their loved ones home if possible. The state would help provide enough equipment for those who are not infected and need care that can be provided at home, King County Executive Dow Constantine said.

The Seattle-King County Health Department sent in a University of Washington doctor to report on the conditions of the facility. He said the facility is immaculate and the clinical support staff is working as one would expect, but there are some signs of stress. The patients appear to be well-cared for, the health department’s Patty Hayes said.

A task force of 30 physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses are expected to land in Washington to help relieve Life Care staff.

How the fuck was this consistently spread to so many people in one facility?? Forget the fact they're old and sick (staff got infected too), how unsanitary was this place to begin with? How many rules and regulations were being broken on a daily basis? I've had family members in nursing homes and I know the kind of people that they'll hire. The bottom line is, this was spread A LOT, it's the employee's responsibility to protect the patients and instead they exposed them. I hope someone will be held responsible for this but I highly doubt that will happen.
How about that staff member that was hospitalized at Overlake Hospital earlier this week....

12:57 p.m. Grand Princess cruise ship still waiting on test results.
12:55 p.m. San Jose mayor calls for moratorium on evictions during coronavirus outbreak.
12:45 p.m. SF virus patient being treated at San Francisco General.
12:35 p.m. California’s Department of Public Health lags in releasing info.
12:24 p.m. Chocolate festival in SF to proceed as planned.
11:57 a.m. eBay bans hand sanitizer sales.
(along with masks and disinfecting wipes)

California, making it easier to coof plague onto chocolate and keeping the test results a secret while you've still got a roof over your head, be it in your own apartment or the Grand Plague cruise ship.

A gentleman just taught me how to make hand sanitizer because he couldn't find any at the store. Just combine aloe vera goo with rubbing alcohol. Survival Crafting Skill +1
I shake a lot of hands and don't always have hand sanitizer. But I travel and there's 2 things I can get anywhere: shampoo and vodka. It may feel a little weird, but keep your 50MLs when you get off the plane so you can carry around your stuff.

If you are going to mix it yourself, the best thing you can get is 90% isopropyl. Cheaper and stronger than most liquor.

Things are getting pretty sporty down here in SoCal. It's not super-crazy yet, but stores are already hiding hand sanitizer behind the counter and limiting purchases of that, and several other things like toilet paper and water to 1-2 per customer. Despite being told to make sure you have enough of essential meds to get you through a self or mandatory quarantine, insurance companies won't let you fill prescriptions in advance, so if you want to go that route you're going to have to pay out of pocket.

The homeless population here is out of control in the last few years and they're going to get their shit absolutely wrecked when the balloon goes up (which in my view will be in maybe a few weeks)

It's sort of ironic that California's bullshit lax attitude towards the homeless is going to end up killing a lot of them in the end.

SCMP is literally a Chinese propaganda outlet lol.
Oh I didn't see that.
It would make sense that mortality rate goes down as testing becomes better, for a number of reasons. This outlet should be taken with a grain of salt, though.

The virus could hang around in tiny aerosolized particles in the air, so I think they could do everything right and still have this result. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but it just further emphasizes our need for better testing. Even if you were licking everyone's foreheads, you don't just immediately get 15 sick people overnight, esp with such a long & variable incubation period.

It’s poetic justice, they’ve already had hepatitis and the plague spreading through the homeless.
They refused to do anything about it.

Even in expensive private pay facilities, these places are made of neglect and filth. Unless they have a relative going in there and demanding care every day, these people are left to die. And that's without corona.

A while ago took a relative to a local bank. Relative needed to discuss something with a banker.

Everything went normally, meaning no wipes, no hand sanitizer, hands shaken all around, coming and going. I know I don't go everywhere, or even that many places, but wherever I go, things are basically normal. Only thing unusual was being given a wipe at Costco last week to wipe down shopping cart handle. Didn't happen yesterday. Fully expect the weekly trip to the commissary tomorrow to be normal, too.

In my humble opinion most people aren't buying into the media-induced hysteria. "Oh, no! New York State has close to 50 cases of the WuFlu!" New York State's population is nearly 20 million. Just keeping things in perspective.

The Times and some prat named Ed Conway being utterly fucking exceptional with a hot take. Wu Flu is grand because it'll kill off the old who are 'climate deniers' and stop the economy. I'm happy to consign people who live in glee at the concept of being reduced to a stone age full of young people with Media Studies degrees back to the stone age, frankly. Right now. No electricity, transport beyond a donkey or their feet, central heating or modern medicine for any of them.

Well, it will reboot it if it gets bad enough.

For the purposes of "Energy security" countries which have slowed down or shut all their coal mines will open those fuckers back up and crush the coal down into the burnable slurry/synthetic oil the Nazis came up with 70 odd years ago.

Or if it goes really fucking far, you can guarantee people will just roll back to the Victorian Era of technology. This is the reality of most real post-apocalyptic scenarios presuming enough books survive, let alone people to deal with stuff.

Media studies kids can either fucking work in the mines, the fields, or damn well starve. Same with most "Journalists" who will either become pure propaganda mouthpieces for the new regime, or will find new employment if lucky.

Remember to follow WHO suggestions:

1) Stop touching your face with your hands.
2) Wash hands often and thoroughly - remember - "Happy Birthday" is copyrighted, so If you decide to follow the NHS advice to time your hand washing duration to the tune of this song being sung twice, make sure, that you have paid the royalties to BMI or your own local music protection racket performance rights organization before washing your hands.
3) Stop shaking hands, there are safer alternatives available, please follow the official advisory included in this post.

Nursing homes are just places filled with people waiting to die. Have visited relatives in nursing homes. Jesus. You just want to get the fuck away from there at warp speed.

Another place full of people just waiting to die - over-50/55 mobile home parks. Just a bunch of people in their boxes in the warehouse. Go there, almost never see any people around. Uncle Joe says, FUCK THAT SHIT! 👍

An easier alternative to the Roman salute - the one-fingered salute, with one hand or both. Sorry, couldn't help it. 🙂

Added - crude oil now at $41.55 barrel - went down a lot today. If you can get past the pay wall, today's WSJ.com has an article regarding all the CCP fuckups since this thing started. Yeah, good that the WSJ reporters formerly in China are no longer there.

I read somewhere that 70% is better because it doesn't evaporate as quickly and thus has more time to kill shit. Although the aloe vera might cancel that.

There's also the age-old " 'Sup, fag?" as long as you don't spit when you say it.

Is it just a coincidence that Democratic politicians weren't open and honest about the virus until after everyone put in their votes in California?
Because now they're finally putting out numbers and admitting it's a problem.
Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe not.
