Taika Waititi to Tackle 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' for Netflix - Example #8092 on how creatively bankrupt the entertainment industry is

Waititi's original films are pretty good, but his adaptations (or at least, the one I've seen, Thor: Ragnarock) was a big, jokey piece of garbage.

I liked What We Do in the Shadows, but the more I see from Waititi, the more I’m convinced that Jemaine Clement did the heavy lifting on it.

Ragnarok has its moments, but I don’t get why people raved about it. It had all the signs of meddling from corporate, sure, but I was still kind of underwhelmed at the parts of it that were obviously part of director’s main intent.

Waititi’s funny, but he needs someone funnier to bounce off of.

Can't wait to have another classic piece of White, Western Iconography and culture defaced for the Netfux pozzed masses. When will They make their own culture instead of re-purposing others?

Everyone's dunking on this announcement but Waititi does good work, I might check it out.

Waititi does do good work, I cannot discount that. It's the woke fuck management of Netflix that are the goddamn problem. They will cram that agenda down everyone's throat regardless of whatever vision/idea Waitititi has in store.

Prime Example: Dark Crystal behind the scenes interview. The Henson family and workers were raving about puppets, the thought and care behind them, the attention to detail, the hard work it took to bring them to life, the creating of worlds and backstory. They were so very very proud of their work.

Netflix excutives: We showed that a matriarchy can be successful and that women of color were empowered.

This is the disconnect that I witness each time I watch a netflix or bbc show. How many woke talking points can they throw in the show to make it unbelievable. Diversity for Diversity sake and not for story telling/world building. This is why it saddens me when shows get on Netflix as I know it will be crammed with fucking poz SJW nonsense for no reason whatsoever.

Fun Fact: Lemony Snicket series episode about "The Penultimate Peril" had Klaus (the older brother) shout "SOCIAL JUSTICE!" during the court room scene. I wanted to punch the TV as these fucks are not even trying to hide it in a goddamn kids show.

Yeah yeah I know it's popular to shit on Tim Burton films

That one had a shit ton of passion put into it from the writers to the set design to the prop makers to hiring people to literally train real squirrels. It was also more accurate to the book than the original film. It's a really impressive film and definitely not something they just shit out like so many others.

While I prefer the original this movie has it's charms. Deep Roy as every fucking Oompa Loompa was a good choice.

No...just his Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory really. Well maybe the 2nd Batman movie too.

Both are masterpieces compared to Dark Shadows. What the fuck was Burton thinking/drinking?

My favorite part of the original was the old grandpa or uncle or whatever he was. All bed ridden and sickly untill you get a free trip to the chocolate factory now you feel fine gramps?

Waititi is the kind of guy to shit on mild fans so there's pretty much no doubt he'll hop aboard the "gravy train" of doing things because he hates your guts. Look how edgy he is for it, too!

He and Margot Robbie have become typical Hollywood faggots. I hate to see it happen to Aussies/Kiwis.

Grandpa Joe will be a transsexual.

Jessica Yaniv, your moment has come.

For all the whinging that goes on about black voices being tossed aside in favor of whitey's, adapting Willy Wonka, or any other of Dahl's works, again seems to be a missed opportunity to raise those voices.

I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say these endless remakes are unnecessary. However, there's a lot of mythology and original stories from pee-oh-see cultures or authors that never see the light of day in favor of rebooting 90's IPs that nobody cared about. These stories are something that Waititi could put his clout behind and cater to all the little black boys and girls who NEED to see themselves in media!!!!!!! Of course, that kind of shit isn't as profitable as putting out more nostalgia bait.

As others have said, pulling Willy Wonka out again means updating it for the times, and the same technology bad, nobody hangs out with their family anymore!! message that everyone has heard and is tired of. You can also be assured that there are prewritten articles calling the backlash against Waititi remaking Dahl's library a result of a vocal alt-right or white supremacist minority.

I'm glad I never bothered with Netflix

Ngl Veruca Salt is one of the best characters. Evil? Kind of. But a glorious bitch? Yes
She had the best song too.

The question is, will it be worse than Tom and Jerry Meet Willy Winks?

Everyone's focused on Charlie, but they are going to make Wonka a fat white woman.

I'm growing to hate Taika Waititi. I agree he's a good at comedy.

However I think that's all he's good at. He can't blend comedy into more serious tones. The plot screeches to a fucking halt, the 4th wall is torn down, and funny clown man jumps around and makes you laugh with a funny voice, and you are expected to still be invested as they put the scraps of the 4th wall back up.

I legit thought Disney trolled us with the last episode of The Mandolorian. Anyone who liked that scout trooper scene should drink bleach. It's somewhat amusing as a non-canon youtube short, but I legit though Disney put a fake episode 8 up on the torrents and I had just downloaded 45 minutes of wacky scout troopers doing UCB sketches. The whole episode I was wondering why I disliked this episode much more than the rest. Then I saw it was directed by Taika Waikitit and it clicked a lot of things home to me.

"while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time."

Yeah I'm sure this is totally going to make this watchable.

What's that? A pompous shitty t.v. writer somehow thinks they can match the wit and creativity of the original writer to improve upon it (and in this woke decade, FIX all the problematic issues of a fifty year old book?) Say it isn't so!

And so it goes just like that Wheel of Time, Guards adaptation of Prachett, upcoming LOTR show, The Witcher, Game of Thrones....etc, etc. I think the writer's strike was the deathknell of t.v. entertainment. So many good older writers fucked off and left it to shitty subpar young ones who feel this grubby need to change and defy 'expectations' for their own ego because 'I'm totally as talented as Robert Jordan!' Forgetting, that, no, they are not. And they never will be.

These activists secretly know their more woke views aren't popular, or at the very least won't be as popular as what's already available.
That's why instead of crafting alternative new and unique stories and settings, they impress their politics on existing properties even if it kills them. Either way it eliminates the ideological competition.

Take the Expanse. I don't know the writers' politics but quite a few lead roles in the latest season are non-white, and nobody except genuine racists care because its perfectly in keeping with the setting that's been established.
Episode 1 of Noughts and Crosses came out last night and it was pretty good. Point being if you're that passionate about minority representation then adapt more stories like that. Don't lecture the public on the importance of representation, and then when Netflix casts Augustus Gloop as half-Japanese half-Turkish, spin around and say it doesn't matter, and act like there's something wrong with you for taking issue with that decision.

I don’t really care about race bending all that much as long as it makes sense in the world of the story. Charlie being played by a black kid makes sense to me. Unlike live action Lady and the Tramp which had a human cast that made no fucking sense.

Race bending is almost never the biggest issue with these movies. 2015 Fantastic Four would have been an absolutely terrible movie regardless of the races of the characters.

IDK I just think animated adaptions of Roald Dahl’s books is kind of a cool idea. As long they aren’t CGI. Fuck that.

I can't wait to see Chinese Oompa Loompas.
Worried more about how they'll "modernize" the music and add shitty jokes like every other comedy released.

By the way, I love the messages of the original movie, Charlie isn't too much of a goody two shoes, he does something bad as well but unlike the other bratty kids he shows remorse for it and that's all it takes for him to inherit the factory.

That's a good message for kids, you don't have to be perfect but willing to own up to your mistakes counts for a lot.

But who's to blame for those other bratty kids? As the Oompa Loompas say "the mother and the father"

Just good, down to Earth messages for both kids and adults, the kind of down to Earth messages you no longer see from modern culture.

Yeah, characters' races might change, but this is going to be animated. It's going to have the Cal-Arts style and look like every other shitty Netflix animated series.

No, Charlie, his family, and Wonka will be PoCs, all the other kids and evil characters will be white.
The most *objectively* evil people in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory universe, are *all 4* of the grandparents. (Ok, Grandpa Joe is *slightly* less evil, but only barely, and only because he *finally* gets the fuck out of bed for Charlie's benefit...) All 4 of Charlie's grandparents stay in bed for literally decades while Charlie's mom and/or dad work themselves to the bone to support everyone in the family. It would be "problematic" if you race-changed any of those lazy AF grandparents.
